Afaik, Exeggcute should work even if you don't enable grass energy. For example, Magneton's ability to attach an elec energy works even if you don't enable it.
I definitely prefer this highly edited format. I watched another video earlier and they said they were going to break down the card reveals but it was just them saying the card names and going "oh this is so cool"
I greatly appreciate your calculated, detailed, and nuanced explanations. I think you are perfectly filling in this niche in Pokémon pocket content (especially with your background)
Everything we've seen from the set is very encouraging. I love the approach in design with Mew ex, adding power to the decks in the format with new options instead of replacing/outclassing existing archetypes. I hope this continues with the set in January!
This type of video is better than a reaction video I feel like. It also defines who you are as a content creator, not looking for cheap views by not just screaming when seeing a new card because it is so busted. On that topic Mew and Vaporeon seem quite overtuned. Vaporeon you can't really play around because it needs basically no setup, so you have to be scared of every single pokemon (and energy) they have. And Mew basically negates Charizard, Arcanine, Dragonite, Mewtwo, etc. completely like you said. It's also a basic like Pikachu and Mewtwo, so you can draw it often with Pokeball.
totally agree about Starmie, even currently in Starmie Articuno, they are played together because they're both really strong not because they really compliment each othef
I'm most excited about the introduction of all these new Trainer cards. That means that we're finally getting some variety in deck building. Right now, everyone has their Professors, Pokéballs, Potions, etc in their deck.
This was fun. I appreciate you taking your time to look at the cards, something I didn't do on my own, which made me more interested in watching your video.
I always liked your unedited Marvel SNAP datamine/update videos, but that being said I think I prefer some of the in depth card analysis that this edited style allows you to prepare. This style gets my vote!
the goat pocket content creator!! also, with the exeggcute, i believe it will allow you to run a completely separate energy alone rather than having to run grass energy. it's comparable to brock's utility and i know for a fact you do not need to use fighting energy in your deck to "attach a fighting energy from the energy zone".
Exeggcute could be played in a no grass energy deck, I believe, but it wouldn't be a good idea. Exeggutor's biggest strenght is the potential 80 damage on turn 3, having to use Exeggcute's move first makes it very subsceptible to a KO. Not to mention that no grass energy means you can't evolve your benched Eggys, because they wouldn't be able to ever attack. This card is only really useful in a double energy deck, when you're going second, which is still not terrible, but the 20 missing damage could be relevant in some matchups.
This format was perfect. I come to the Hooglandia channel for logical, data-driven opinions and insights. If I wanted a knee-jerk reaction to the spoilers I could watch any of the 100s of pocket content creators.
Considering that Celebi EX is confirmed as a Mew counterpart, my prediction is that we’ll also get Red Support as counterpart to Leaf… and a greedier prediction: other eevolutions with abilities
@@craigtothec Seems appealing at first, but its important to consider that the big boy decks in the meta get significantly stronger as well through that mechanic since they also have stage 3 mons.
@@DonQ94 True, but if it was worded in a way that could only draw middle evolutions. It wouldn't help Pikachu decks at all, and Mew EX is already gonna be a great counter for the other big boys, so I'm not too concerned about it affecting balance negatively.
to answer some of your questions what happens if mew ex copies mewtwo ex's or charizard ex's attack: if it works like the regular tcg, copying psydrive without psychic energy means you do 150 damage and don't discard any energy, same with crimson storm, if you don't have fire energy you do 200 and don't discard. Can you use exeggcute's attack without selecting grass energy for your deck?: yes, this has been proven with cards like brock, misty and magneton. You can play exeggcute and exeggcutor without grass energy if you want to rely on exeggcute's as your only way to get grass energy.
I think it's interesting that the set postermon is not going to be another Zard/Mewtwo/Pika EX. A Mew mirror match would be rather sad looking. Given that Mew only needs 3 colourless, I think we're going to see this everywhere but it isn't going to be your heavy hitter or your actual gameplan. Probably will see the most play in Mewtwo decks because that deck is the only one that is able to juice Mew with free energy from Gard. That's, of course, assuming there isn't any energy ramp in the new set.
Mew EX looks like it'll be great in Gardevoir decks as a counter to Charizard. 1 energy attack let's it be an early game attacker while you set up. Swap with xSpeed. And by the time your opponent has Charizard up you should have at least one Gardevoir ready to quickly finish paying off that 3 energy cost.
Ironically the release of Mew Ex could cause an increase of Ditto usage because with Ditto you can use the attack Genome Hacking of enemy benched Mew ex (and it doesn't require specific energy) to copy enemy active attack without energy restrictions
@@ChaosAngel9151 Ye, but if they have Mew benched it could be good. Maybe pairing Ditto with Pidgeot to make them bench Mew could be interesting (and consider that if you have Ditto active they can copy only your copy attack but they are very restricted by energy)
With Professor's Research being as strong and ubiquitous as it is and the deck size being 20, I wonder if/when we will reach a point that decks wont be 18 cards plus research (if ever). My guess is that the only supporters that could replace research (if they aren't run alongside each other) would be other situational draw supporters that maybe will synergize with specific pokemon lines. Can't wait to see more!
@TryhardSnake I agree. At the moment, Professor's Research is just Pot of Greed good. Chopping an already small deck format down by 10%, getting +1 card economy for using it. Card is just going to be used forever unless it is banned or powercrept
@@jeff3221 the only reason it works in Pokemon is because you are restricted to one supporter a turn. That’s still so strong here. Now that I think about it, I’m surprised we got this from the beginning. For example, I think drawing 2 and discarding 1 would still be good. Hard to see how they could power creep it but there’s a thin line there I’m sure they must be aware of before it becomes a disaster. Cards being a 100% include for every single deck tend to not be a healthy thing in a card game. I could see sidegrades to poke ball being made that bump poke ball out of that ubiquity without being broken, but I don’t see it being possible for research. I’d just imagine that you would run anything else alongside research.
New Egg seems great for 2 energy decks, but Exeggutor is one of the strongest go-first mons, so I would not expect anyone to drop the grass energy and give up that option

I think maybe blue will be able to make a melmetal deck functional. As it stands right now, his ability is not good enough because a mewtwo attack can knock out melmetal exactly. I'm really excited about Dhelmise in the Single knockout Venusaur deck I've been brewing. I have been using Pinser as a meat shield which can be powered up by Lilliant. This seems like a great upgrade for what I'm looking for
Dhelmise and Baby Lapras do have utility that you already mentioned, potentially being tech cards against Mew EX. In a world where Mew EX is the metagame terror I could see a Liligant Dhelmise deck (probably EggEx too) or something like it being something you could try to counter Mew EX since Mew will only ever be able to copy the 20 damage but you’re dealing 90. Outside of that (or without significant new tools yet to be revealed from this set) you’re probably right that they’ll be largely unplayed.
I'm not seeing the value in it atm. My thoughts are that it's more of a 'lose more' ability for your opponent. As noted in the video, this ability really isn't impacting the gameplan of the meta decks. Generally, you're wanting to evolve your benched mons. So, against a Zard deck, you're only going to see them evolving Charmeleon from the Active slot if they're bricking, they've been Sabrina'd, or you are already walking over them and have rolled their prior Active mon. I can see this being brutal for dual Stage 2 decks, where the Active and Benched mons are both being evolved each turn. But those are not meta as is, so again, I'd consider that a lose more situation because your opponent has already brought a subpar deck 😂
@@jeff3221Ahhhhh, it only affects their active pokemon, so that's how they balanced it. Still could be really good with Wigglytuff to keep the opponent from evolving to get out of sleep, but outside of that I think you're right

My thoughts on Mew EX are the same as yours, slot it into basically every deck at least as a 1 of because it can take out any heavy hitter the opponent spent the game building up to. The only exception to what MEw EX can take out is Pikachu EX unless you're also running an electric heavy deck. That new Aerodactyl Scares me Edit: Active, this makes me less scared. I have been reading it wrong this whole time. That being said, aerodactyl with pidgeot and / or Victreebel could be neat

They specifically say to discard those energy types, so if Mew doesn't have them, there's nothing for it to discard.
Im still questioning how Mews "Genome Hacking" interacts with Mewtwos and Charizards big attack. Because their attacks say to discard two specific Energy.
