I’m two/three years older than you but following the exact same timeline in terms of Eyedea, started listening at 17 and love him to this day. Maybe there’s a zeitgeist to it, a spirit about it. Warms my heart to know that my favorite niche idols continue to inspire and live in the hearts of others

Best freestyle MC I've heard. It's not just what he says but how he says it, he always uses multiple flows, vocal tones, and rides the beat as good as a song, if not better. And then you have the crazy content: short stories, random but cool as fuck connections between ideas, awesome rhyming etc.
This is my number 1 freestyle. In every aspect.

That is just fantastic. Nuff said. Completely off the top. Goes with a weird transition and makes it work. And then turns it into something self-referential and conscious at the end by addressing his current actions, emotions, thoughts and surroundings. Those couple bars are the epitome of a true rapper.

Now THIS is an actual freestyle.. See that's that shit I hate is watchin videos that say rappers are "freestyling," when, in all actuality, you can just tell that they're just spittin somethin they've written before.. granted, that does take a high level of skill to hear an instrumental and quickly reach down into your memory banks to find something that'll work over the beat, BUT.. you can tell when Eyedea freestyles that he's actually FREESTYLING off the top, unscripted.. and THAT takes way more skill..

i agree with what you are saying but speed has nothing to do with it.. not everyone has to do the fast flow. its actually kinda harder to rap slow (and make it sound good) then it is to rap fast.

He is obviously nuts, but I've noticed a significant amount of his bars are different ways of saying 'when i grab the mic i show how bad everyone else is'. Even him and Slug on the wake up show was a 10/10 performance, but it's all I could notice for most of his freestyling, just lots of variations of 'i'm the best, people think they're better but they're not' type statements, so it makes me think it's not quite as 'off the dome' everyone's making out.

Vextos yea I remember dude very well...I remember him being funny as funk cappin on kids,,I mean u know how kids are in elementary and junior high...I mean let's be honest everyone has experienced how cruel we can be,,I recal Mike being super funny and nobody being able to cap on him..I remember distinctly every one trying to cap on his gap teeth and him looking like is that all u got and then str8 murkin them with the funniest ish u ever heard..oh shit I remember this true story kinda off topic but oh well,when I was like in 5th or 6th grade I had a bulls starter trench coat on and Mike,Tony and I were walking back from this rec center after playing b ball,,I got approached by this old ads drunk dude trying to Jack my coat and he socked me in the eye,i'm like thinking there is 3 of us and 1 of him and as I fall down I look back and Mike and Tony are running the other way..lol...that's funny as hell now that I'm older..
