This monitor makes FPV more social. Many times I bring a spare goggle for spectators. This monitor at 175 is much more affordable than a full goggle and much smaller. Also, the automatic analog and hdzero switching is clutch for races

Social and useful! So glad you guys have an hdmi out + included analog! Def on a roll with the race v3 and freestyle v2 (hardware is now better than dji, imo).. Are their any plans for a 2+W VTX? I love this system and hope to see it develop/fill the gap for situations where I still need 03.

From other resources, it seems the high cost of the goggles is actually in the binocular optics which cost HDZero $300 from their source. The monitor does not use or need these options as a simple screen will suffice.

As someone who does a lot of promotion of the hobby and sport of racing this is a great product. We regularly have major racing events at Airshows and other events where we have staff who engage the crowd and showcase the sport of racing. These staff members were using EV800's and other analog handheld screens to give children and spectators a view of what the pilots see. However, now that pilots are moving to HDZERO for racing we can have races that are all HDZERO and its harder to give people that up close view of what is going on. Only so many people can crowd around TV's and things.
This product allows the use of a single screen and if a pilot is on analog or HDZERO you still get their feed and can hopefully help grow the sport by showcasing it to someone who has never seen it before. Bardwell is right - if you are just getting this for yourself it might not have the value when you can just use your goggles, but really this is device that is designed to be shared with others and grow FPV.

Another underrated feature of the HDZero gear that is huge for analog is no rolling video. Never was able to fly when video would roll. Nicer DVR without the rolling

I fly fixed wing FPV with a screen and it’s great. Wearing goggles for hours at a time isn’t a good option and I interact with my aircraft on my laptop in flight so another strike for goggles. My only complaint would be that the screen isn’t big enough. Why use a battery at all? Just plug it into your car. It’s versatile and does everything! Very cool 😎!

I'm an organizer of a race chapter that flies a nearly even split between analog and HDZero. I'm often fielding questions from visitors, and having a monitor would be a much better tool for answering most of those questions than a set of goggles. The monitor also allows head and hands free spectating if you're busy with something else.
I wish the price were lower. Maybe it will come down around the holidays.

    Great review Josh,
I have the emax transporter goggles which have never been used as goggles. I set it up on my bench to check video when repairing, I use it at races to watch other pilots from the pit area, spot for pilots on hdzero, when i am at STEM engagement activities and more. The battery life sucks on it and i can't view or spot for analog pilots with it. That is exactly what this solves and was built for.
In regards to built in battery, they have designed a 3d printable case that screws onto the back via those mounting holes that are already there.

While being in too deepfinancially to just move over to a whole different HD ecosystem. After my experiences, I went back to analog with sky zone 040 pro. This is something racing has been needing for a long time. It will make racing a social experience again, rather than just sitting around waiting for your turn you can see how your friends are doing. It’s kind of a faff using WiFi from goggles etc, it will also make the job of spectating much easier. I personally can’t wait until there’s a row of 6 at every race for the spectators.

The reason they probably don’t do the auto switching on the goggles is that you don’t want it switching back and forth if your signal gets weak. It’s not as big an issue if that happens and you are spectating. I haven’t used any of this hardware but I would guess that auto switching for the pilot might not be a good idea.

I would be interested to test the quality of the DVR as it relates to analog video. I'm assuming you can record over the antennas and through the video in jack? It's not much more expensive than an ImmersionRC PowerPlay, and for that small difference in price you're getting a lot of extra bang for your buck. If someone planned on buying a DVR and a cheap pair of bench/spectator goggles this would be an absolute no brainer decision if the DVR quality is good. I also like the external power setup as it's much more convienent for the intended use cases.

I have an Eachine Analog Monitor in my Backpack all the time, so when some people approach me and wanna know more about the hobby (or show signs of drone-karen) I just put that display in their hands and let them watch. The Karen who is afraid of military spy tech quickly realizes there is no spying with analog vid and everyone else gets what is so amazing about this hobby. But: Built-in-Battery that decayed quite a bit over the years and now barely makes 20mins of use... and analog only! Having a display on a tripod also is really helpful on the bench during the initial setup and test.
When I saw Botgrinders vid about this I instantly bought it. I love that it combines analog and HDZ (and agree with you here... why not in the goggles, and does this analog actually work - unlike the goggles system which is super super chosey to format and analog cam used?)... but now I can finally have spectators watch me flying HDZ as well, initiate it on the bench and the hdmi-out is a god-send during presentations and demos as well. I'll also use it as second display for more spectators during analog sessions.
Battery is one of the best decisions ever as well. As said, my Eachine battery is decaying hard. With this display I'll just get another 4S pack and that's it. I can also put that pack in storage charge and care for it - the one in my Eachine just stays there, fully charged and slowly dying from it. When I have larger gigs/events I can also just put a larger pack on it and done. While it appears clunky for a consumer product, for FPV Field use this is a god send.

Can someone that has one, confirm that the A/V in gets the same love from the 720 upscale that the analog side of the DVR gets? HDMI out for A/V in as well?
Really excited for mine to show up, with some luck it will be a nice replacement/upgrade for the powerplay that is never in stock. Sony VX collectors stumbled upon our fpv DVR (powerplay) gear and use them for a tapeless recording solution, can be a high commodity on eBay recently with roughly the same if not higher price than this new entry (hdz monitor).
This is going to become a big utility for my hobby. I plan on using one for some fpv ground vehicles (no hdz goggles, yet.), some analog Hijinx, and hopefully some sweet skatepark action on the VX. In my mind, we should be able to connect a Rapidfire module through the a/v as well, correct?
Seems to be a cool little gadget, few minor (we assume) tweaks/additions to the design and it'd be practically perfect.

I like the idea for casual viewing of pilots flying without having to put the goggles on, ie at a racing event I can be tuning into another pilots channel and share the viewing experience with other spectators. Also handy as a bench display while configuring or troubleshooting. It's not unlike the many versions of the portable monitors for analog from back in the day.
As far as not inluding analog RX inside the goggle, everyone got such a hard on for fatshark style modules that integrated RX goggles (Sky02 and 03) got little love for years, then the hype moved to rapidfire and eventually fusion as the ONLY modules worth having. Manufacturers move to allowing people to use those modules and now get flak for not having integrated. XD

Whenever I go flying in the park, I set up ground station with a 10" screen connected via HDMI to an analog monitor (120 $) similar to the HDZero one. It's great because everyone stops by, gets curious, and people come up to talk to me, asking questions about the hobby. Quite a few are interested in getting started themselves. The kids love it and don't want to leave. People come up to thank me for the view from the sky. I also have a second pair of goggles for those who want to try out FPV. It makes the whole experience much more sociable and fun, and I meet some great people. It's one of the main reasons I go flying these days. So yeah, I'm definitely going to buy the HDZero Monitor and as you said the intended use is not for people to fly with it. :)

That thing seems to have been purposely made to solve the exact issue I ran into at the last big race I attended.
You want to spectate or show to the members of the public, but pilots are running maybe 2/3 analog 1/3 HDZero. Switching from HDZero to the external module bay is pretty annoying and slow, and you may not know beforehand if they run analog or HDZero so switch from one pilot to another in the middle of the race after one crashes is too slow.
I actually would love to have the same option on thz googles to just tune to a channel and have the system switch from one to the other itself.
Just a bit sad that this does not have an hdmi input and a 90fps capable screen.

One more thing. I have a set of Viper goggles that just use a monitor that is about the same size as the HDZero monitor and it just clips on the front. There is a pretty good chance that I could use that headset shell and mount the HDZero camera right to it. IF that did work, then I would have the best of all worlds. Even with moving to a ground station, it is always nice to have options. For me the true comparison is how this monitor compares to other analog monitors (and Not goggles). Is there an analog monitor (screen with receiver built in) that compares to the analog side of the HDZero monitor? If so, then do tell.

2:25 I think perhaps they thought with the goggles they'd give people maximum flexibility to use their expensive, very good analog receivers - I would've been very happy if they built the analog receiver into the goggles, since I only fly analog whoops or do race spectating on analog. My bigger quads are all gonna be HDZero. But I can imagine how much people would have complained if the goggles on supported its own built-in analog receiver.
Here, it's just a spectating screen, so getting the absolute best reception is a slightly lower priority than the form factor. (Also, not building the receiver into the goggles ended up being problematic with some of the receivers people used not working well with the goggles, so that may have factored into it as well.)

  • @dimanfpv3247

I'm surprised how negative you were on this. It's an HDzero receiver and an analog receiver. It has hdmi out so it could double as a ground station for someone with analog goggles. You can bring it to a race and spectate both the HD and the analog racers plus it's the cheapest price for any HD system to allow standalone spectator view. I mean you have two maybe three choices if you want grandma to see what this is all about. You can tether your head to a monitor. I can't stand this cables get yanked ports get damaged. You can spend 500 on another pair of goggles and another 100 on an analog module so you can have 1 person spectate on whatever you are flying or spend 175 on this now the whole damn fam can gather around a. D see what's going on. Plus if you're old school fpv you probably have a older pair of analog goggles that can hook up an now one person spectate in goggles while everyone else still sees what's going on.

He's not perfect at this and no one is, but the man is tough on HDZero and super soft with Walksnail every time. It could be unintentional bias but wow it's blatant sometimes. Slap a Walksnail sticker over the HDZero then tell me what you think JB! Is the 60Hz display a drawback? Yes, but there are quite a few people that fly 720@60 or 1080@30. There is simply no way that I am paying $500-$600 for a set of goggles regardless of what they are or the features they have. On the other hand, I would pay $175 for the monitor even if it is not as "good" as the goggles.

That goes away after you use goggles for a little while. I had it too, but it went away in a short time. Seriously, can't be duplicated by anything else. Plus, flying with a monitor sucks and will get your quad wrecked. It's just not easy to do and no fun. 🤷🤦🙄

    • @HarryM-qi6sr
      @HarryM-qi6sr 6 месяцев назад

@@KOrnhOliO1 On the one hand, I understand your perspective. Now, imagine that a person could put their head right up to the monitor that is inside a light shielded enclosure, as close to the monitor as you needed and with no light coming in. Sort of like goggles on a tripod. In fact, that is actually another option. Just mount the goggles on a tri-pod and stick one's head right up to the goggles. So, what is the difference. Not much really, if any. I believe that I can get the same effect as goggles with something that is NOT worn on my head. Recall the first cameras where the photographer stuck his head under a black cloth and right up to the camera as close as he needed. Then, we each have different needs. Now, let's consider what a real pilot, in a real plane, sees... a windshield, a wall of instruments, the co-pilot (if there is one) and anything else in the cockpit. Is the pilot "immersed" in the experience? There is no airplane or helicopter that I can think of that has tunnel vision immersion.

Who is this monitor for? Well, ME. First, I am ALL analog and my primary interest is in the analog de-interlacer and enhancement features. I use box goggles because my eyes (or brain) does not full integrate the 2 images and I see a double overlay when using any type of binoculars viewing device even binoculars. Now, get pretty decent analog video anyway, but like to have the de-interlacer. I have been working on how to get the HDZero analog de-interlacer module onto something that I can use without buying expensive goggles (of any type). There is a mod for my Eachine EV800D goggles to wire in an adapter to use those analog monitors for HD goggles. But, I would still need a receiver to plug in and the screen would just be the analog EV800D screen. Yes, this setup still costs more than $200 and I have to make it work. So, my use is primarily a decent analog monitor. The HDZero side of it is just a bonus since I have no HD digital gear. However, with this monitor, I might be tempted to put together an HDZero quad. Hmm. Interesting and the price is right.

Thing is, I am moving away from ANY head mounted device (goggles) in favor of a tri-pod mounted set up, so any and all goggles are simply out of the question. Since I am not a stunt pilot or racer and I don't care that much about "fully immersed", my needs are different. Another thing. I am moving from wearable goggles to a ground station monitor for flying FPV. Yes, I will fabricate some type of shroud or shield for blocking light and put my face right up in there where it needs to be. In this use case, the HDZero monitor is at the top of the list largely due to the analog de-interlacer and the price. The first reason is so that I can fly legit and not need a spotter since I no longer have one available. Yes, I have already confirmed, you only need a spotter if you are piloting with a headset. Next, I wear eyeglasses and different strengths at different times (so diopters don't really work for me). The strength that I need in the goggles is different than my normal ones so I have to switch eyeglasses going to or from the goggles. Not so with a monitor as I can adjust how close I am to the screen. The ground station is happening anyway. It is just a matter of what I use for a monitor. For my use case, I have not found anything that compares to the HDZero monitor. It is like they made that just for me. I am the only one.
