    Melodyne assistant FTW. Those artifacts were a definitely a deal breaker, but if it were just between flex pitch and Melodyne Essential, I’d save that 100 and go with flex pitch. Pretty impressive

      Yeah I totally agree! I probably should’ve made the distinction between the different Melodyne options. Flex pitch will do the trick if that’s what you’ve got. Thanks for the comment!

    Could you do a video using the logic flex pitch auto tune plug in that comes with logic? the quick automatic live pitch correction tool? It's only got the scale settings and two sliders but I don't know how to work it

    Can you also delete (make quieter) the breaths with flex pitch?

    • @SojournerTracks
      @SojournerTracks  3 года назад +2

      Absolutely! If you find the breaths and separate them from the pitches with the cut tool, you then can reduce the gain on just the breath.

      @@SojournerTracks Hi, thanks so much I'm more a beginner with logic , I wrote and recorded some songs , bit I struggle a lot with this problem. Especially when I have the compressor on the voice, the breaths get also louder. I will try that- and save maybe some money for DE BREATH.... thanks so much and greetings from Austria.

    • @SojournerTracks
      @SojournerTracks  3 года назад +1

      Very cool to meet you! A de-esser can also help tame some of the harshness of breaths. I personally don’t touch them unless they are very distracting but that depends a lot on style of music. Mic choice and technique can also help you reduce breaths at the source. Happy music making!

    Ive had Melodyne since it was first released. I stopped using it, since Ive moved over to mac and Logic. Melodyne is amazing but flex does just fine. I try to use it very sparingly very very sparingly. I like to leave warts and hair on my tracks and stay as honest as possible. I try to comp as much ugly out as possible. But, I flex every vocal track. But I am doing either Indie or Blues not Pop. A little hair around the edges is a good thing. Since I moved to Logic which I am still finding new things everyday because, its that powerful, I made the decision to use stock plug ins. I stopped using melodyne and ozone. I probably will use plug ons from UA when I upgrade my interface since they are all on the chip and saves on my CPU but. Logic really does have everything you need.
    If Im releasing so ething for sale. I would pay someone who doesnt have hearing loss from playing in bands with no ear plugs with constant ringing in their ears, to mix it, and pay for a final master. I wouldnt mix anything I plan to sell.

    • @SojournerTracks
      @SojournerTracks  2 года назад

      Nothing wrong with that! Flex pitch is fine and if you have a light touch it does the job. I also try to use mostly native plugins. You are correct, everything you really “need” is there. Also FYI I believe they improved the flex algorithms with the most recent update.

    I went back to melodyne too after flex. I think you can clearly hear the artefacts in the comparison on the word diSSapeard. For me flex is unusable because of it unfortunately.

    • @SojournerTracks
      @SojournerTracks  Год назад +1

      Yeah I think it’s usable but it definitely takes more work to get it to sound clean. At least in my experience. Thanks for watching!

    u can definitely get a good recording with flex pitch but it just makes recording a song a lot longer because of the artifacts and having to do a lot of recordings so the artifacts don’t come through

      Agreed! For me, I need to work fast and melodyne is the right tool for that aspect. Thanks for the comment!

    Just discovered you. Loved the vid. I use Logic and was okay with flex until my ears grew more mature. I watched another video earlier doing the same 'vs'. test (yours was superior) and the results were obvious, not just with the artifacts, but the sound quality is lacking with Flex Pitch compared to the Melodyne. Plus, I didn't know about the extra capabilities and have been looking into a third party deesser. Bing! Another excellent selling point for Melodyne. My only question is, "Are there any editing programs that you would give either the algorithm or ear test a 5 to?" Just curious. Thanks again.

    • @SojournerTracks
      @SojournerTracks  2 года назад +1

      Thanks so much for the comment! Flex will get you by but I am of the opinion that if you’re serious about tuning vocals, melodyne makes the most sense. I don’t know of anything better (and nothing is perfect) but since making the video they have released several updates, making the algorithm even more awesome. It’s one of those very few must have tools for me.

  • @stestetsonmusic
    @stestetsonmusic 4 года назад +3

    Only thing i hate about logic are the artifacts I have just updated to latest logic is this something they have fixed

    • @SojournerTracks
      @SojournerTracks  4 года назад +3

      Not really. I find that flex pitch and flex time work decently on really clean audio. Otherwise there almost certainly will be artifacts. To some degree it’s just the natural outcome of manipulating pitch and timing but I think programs like melodyne do a much cleaner job.

    • @stestetsonmusic

      @@SojournerTracks Yh on a clean vocal they are great especially pop and rap but rock vocals can be a night mate on it

    • @SojournerTracks
      @SojournerTracks  4 года назад +3

      That’s exactly right! Any growly tone or distortion totally throws off the algorithm.

  • @v3rlon
    @v3rlon 2 года назад

    Well you ear is better than mine and your opinions are of course, your own. Your testing methodology is a bit flawed though. First, you should count the import times as that would hit your workflow. Then, the track going second has an advantage in a case like this because of your familiarity with it form the first run. Ideally you would need to do multiple clips in different orders. That would make for a much longer video though, and be a lot more work. I can only assume that you already did this behind the scenes.

    • @SojournerTracks
      @SojournerTracks  2 года назад

      I think that’s fair. It was far from a scientific experiment. There’s a bit of confirmation bias from the get go because the idea for the video grew out of my excitement over not having to wrestle with Logic’s native tuning after I got melodyne.
      As far as familiarity goes that’s probably not a huge factor as I did the tuning portion of the video several times prior.
      The main thrust of the video was to reveal which software was more enjoyable and accessible for me to use. There are people who use Logic tuning to great success but I do not possess that skill. The time trial was a constraint I needed to be more objective and limit the scope of video. I appreciate the comment! Cheers.

    Everyone is talking like Melodyne has no artifact sounds and it does. I have melodyne and you get artifacts just like flex pitch. The more off the note is, the more you will have artifacts when shifting the note in tune. I don't care what pitch correction software you use.

    • @SojournerTracks
