    One thing I love about Elton John is that he has so much respect for music generations that have come after him. There’s so many huge inspiring artists that completely disregard new music, Elton John has no ego about it

    • @ppdan
      @ppdan 3 года назад +26

      Well, if I am not mistaken has commented about the fact that lots of recent artists don't sing live.
      I think he even added that when people pay good money for a concert they should get live music and not be played some tape.
      But, I can't blame him for saying that because he is right.

      I love Elton but he's really disrespectful to Madonna and Janet Jackson. The irony with Madonna in that he was shaming her for making dance pop music and now Elton makes dance pop.

      Brian Yule. Well, I have to say, P!nk seems to know how to share the limelight with other stars, respecting them while holding her own, all the while seeming to enjoy herself and the whole show. For someone from the USA with her success and in an all English company, that is not bad at all❣️ That is not always a given response for all USA stars in such company on the Graham Norton Show👌🏽💛

      @@esterzach I agree. Intelligent or not, she's just a downright good woman and yes, surrounded by Englisher's who can be very overwhelming to those of use less well versed in (actual) English mannerisms, she handled her situation with aplomb. On top of that, Steven Fry to me is a gentleman who has infinate patience for people who respect's life in all its colours and is not afraid to piss on someone's parade when he feels their commentry's out of sorts. Ego, buffonary and all that. I felt he was almost fatherly to the two ladies tonight and Carey started out the show almost like a 'blonde ditz' (even admitted as much), but pulled herself togethor which, when you're young and trying to get ahead but need a solid grounding and not sell out (to drugs, glamour, sex etc) helps MASSIVELY, especially when you're surrounded by caring 'burnt out old sods' of the old guard like EJ and Fry.

Neil Tennant (my favourite person) organised Elton's and Sir Ian did David's...they only kept them separate for about an hour until coming together in what was apparently one hell of a party.
      If you are a fan of Sir Ian then you'd likely already know this but for others, both Neil and Sir Ian have famously elegant public personas where many don't realise that both are actually wickedly hilarious with truly filthy senses of humour...hence Elton and David specifically choosing them.

    I don't watch TV and have only seen excerpts of interviews before of Graham Norton. It's so great to watch a whole show for the first time .. Graham has a unique ability to make his guests feel relaxed. Terrific guests here - Fry is always good (loved his analogy of the internet with Pandora's box); Elton, Pink and Carey (and Robbie) good entertainment value. So glad I've watched this.

    It's really interesting what Stephen is saying about Pandora's box being similar to the internet because I remember that short span of a few years that we did all believe things were going to be fixed in the world with the discovery of the internet. Such a great communication tool, we could reach outside the little box of information we were being fed to get the bigger picture and we could work collectively for a better future. I look back and realize how naive we were and I have learned the lesson: any medium that information is delivered to you can and will be manipulated in time, either by governments, corporations, special interests, etc. And since then I have become far more skeptical of things that come along and promise to "change" things. Sooner or later it will be corrupted.

    • @lilylolly8757

      bvansenu Yes. I remember my late grandad was absolutely fascinated by the notion of the internet. When we visited him as children he would talk about it after hearing things on the tv news. Later when we eventually got our first home computer he was amazed that you could just type whatever you wanted in and it would bring you a whole world of information up (after sitting and waiting what felt like an age for the web page to load-because dial up). Wonder what he would make of it all now.

      I'm not skeptical of change, i just learned that there are no magical fixes. There's no magical button to press and no amazing invention that will come along and solve all our problems. Everything has drawbacks and everything can and will eventually be exploited. That doesn't mean that we should stop trying to improve, it just means that we have to be realistic about how we're actually going to go about doing it, and make sure that we don't get caught up in other bullshit along the way or set our expectations too high.
