Fawm Kauv (steamed rolled rice cake with pork): Banh Cuon

- Here is one of my favorite savory steam rice roll cakes I love to eat called (in Hmong) Fawm Kauv also known as Banh Cuon in Vietnamese. Fawm in Hmong refers to a type of rice noodle and Kauv means to cover. So why do we call this dish Fawm Kauv? We basically roll the rice crepe over each other with each layer covering and layering one another. Makes sense yeah? At least that’s what my mom says hehe.
Traditionally, this dish is served with fresh herbs such as mint, fried shallots, pork roll and sometimes bean sprouts. My mom loves to top these rolls with roasted peanuts, which I love too. Here, I’ll just be sharing a simple recipe topped with the fish sauce dressing and fried shallots. Simple yet drools all over! 🙂

Thanks for sharing this video. Finally found a recipe without too many added steps that works and tastes delicious! This is actually my 2nd time of following your recipes. Love them! Although, I would recommend you posts the recipe with the RUclips video. Why? Because when I’m directed from the link to your website, your recipes aren’t directly listed on there. I had to search for it and it’s time consuming.
XyZ thank you! Yes, I’m changing up the links so you all can just click on it and it’ll direct you to the recipe.

Unfortunately no, the rice wrapping tend to dry out.
What is the water ratio
Me and my family is the same
Would be nice if there were measurements, but my favorite childhood rolls ☺❤
The recipe link with measurements are always in the description box below.
ratio of flour mixture is 1:3
100g flour (50g rice flour +50g topica flour): 300ml water .
Can I use half and half of the flour if I just want to do half of how much you did?
Yes
I like you Channel
Hi my Hmong friend what state are you cooking from?
I don't know why but when I flip it over on the counter, the middle is sticky? Like it's not fully cook yet. If I wait a bit longer on the stove and then flip it over then the middle is dry and crunchy. Do you know why???
It could be the temperature you’re cooking it on. It could also be your pan as well as how much and where the heat is distributing on the pan.
❤️
How much water did you add to the flour?
14 cups

I think it was a Hmong vietnamese that created this dish but because Hmong dont have a country, it was claimed as vietnamese.
Bánh cuốn was created almost thousand year ago before Hmong people settle in Vietnam.

I’m gonna cheat and use rice paper and make it vegan with impossible meat and vegan fish sauce 😬
