Neat! Thanks for sharing. Actually she is an amazing positive woman influence to me and likely many other women because she was courageous in pursuing a career as a dancer. She was an artistic dancer who made the best of the life she was given. They did not get any real information from her and threw her under the bus. Sad. She continues to be an influence to dancers and she had a terrific period of life pursuing her passion of dance.

So, your grandfather's first cousin ... ? Which would make you her first cousin twice removed.

@@francesb7515 I’d imagine she lived most of her life in fear. Given that she reinvented herself, I’d say she was running from something already.

All the books I've read and videos/films/documentaries I've seen regarding people choosing to become members of the intelligence community as a profession lead me to conclude it is literally a toss of your lucky coin that can determine your post-career fate. Even the longest serving officers who manage to retire may enjoy just a few years of peace and tranquil existence and still die unexpectedly under inexplicable circumstances.

When you look at her personal life and think about how it must've influenced her psychologically she's kind of a tragic figure. Terrible spy though.....

Not so bad a spy actually. She did give some info regarding a german landing, except the info she was transmitting to the french government ad never got there. The guy working for the french government, Georges Ladoux, was found to be a double spy himself. Unfortunately, a few days later then her execution as a double spy under false evidence.

She was a really class act. Typical of the French to make her a scapegoat for their military failings on the western front. You never would have got an Italian firing squad to execute a Mata Hari.
