    Why is there something so charming about the phrases 'dish scrubby' and 'pointy, spinny bits'?

    You say you don't feel like you can do a good pull cut, I believe that doesn't matter. The creativity and skill you display in the projects you have done says different. I love watching your videos for two reasons, they are very relaxing, and I love the beautiful pieces of wood you use. I think all your projects are works of natural art.
    Keep doing the wonderful work you are doing.
    Thank you

    • @LisaRamlow
      @LisaRamlow  3 года назад +1

      Thank you Paul. I don’t say that as a criticism per say, I just know that in general you get a better finish from a cut than from a scrape and every time I try to do a pull cut (very light, just clean up) from the chuck side out toward the rim after I mount the bowl in the chuck I get a nasty catch. I’ve watched a bunch of videos on how to do it and I understand the process but cannot seem to make it work!
      Anyway, I’m really glad you are enjoying the videos - I’m having a blast!

      @@LisaRamlow I tried to learn to turn wood, but after busting several cutters and scrapers and one lathe I figured it wasn't for me.
      Now a days I work with petrified wood and stone, I find it easier.
      You have a wonderful day.

    • @LisaRamlow
      @LisaRamlow  3 года назад

      Hi Harvey! I started with carbides cuz I was totally overwhelmed by the whole sharpening end of turning but after finding the Wolverine Jig decided to go down that path too. I like having all the options, and there are some things the carbides do better (or more safely) than traditional tools. Whatever works! 😁

    • @LisaRamlow
      @LisaRamlow  3 года назад

      Hi Levis, thank you so much. I’m working on the pull cuts - I normally end up doing a scrape if I have to do a pull cut because I have a terrible time not getting a catch. I think I’m cutting too far along the wing and need more practice. And yeah, I may or may not have unrealistic expectations of myself 😉😂

      Hi Curtis! I ordered the 1/2” Thompson bowl gouge from Cindy Drozda since she puts the 40/40 grind on it. I have a 5/8” bowl gouge I got directly from Thompson Lathe Tools. I have several carbide tools from Simple Woodturning/Harrison Specialties-the square rougher, round hollower, a swan neck hollower I haven’t used in a video yet, the cupped shear scraper and a 55degree diamond point detailer - that diamond point tool never cut right, even after I sharped the carbide. I ordered some replacement carbides from AZ Carbides and they rep the Axe by Carter carbide tools so I got a new diamond point tool from them and it’s great. I’m not going to do the Amazon Affiliate program but I can start to link the tools I use directly to the places I buy them. I’ll add that stuff to the description box next video. Thanks for watching 😃

    I admit I have turned many cubes and none as nice as yours. I will keep trying. I noticed on your Simple Woodturning shear scrapper you said it wasn't as smooth as you thought it should be or something like that. I have the same tool and love it....For me to get a smooth finish you need to present the carbide at a 30 degree or so angle to the work and it does a really nice job. If held to flat it won't give as smooth of finish. Also, try out the 90 degree detailer another fav of mine. Like you channel and keep up the great ideas.

      Hi Stuart! I haven’t used the shear scraper much so am still playing around with the angle a bit - Kerry from Harrison Specialties says to find your sweet spot somewhere around 30-45 degrees I think so I’m still messing around with it a bit now that I have a new cutter in it. I don’t have a really smooth pull stroke (with any tool!) and there were a few dings in my tool rest so hopefully next time I’ll get a little better surface. I also have the Square Rougher, Round Turner/Hollower and the 55degree Detailer from Harrison/Simple Woodturning and like all the tools except the Detailer - I have never been able to get that thing to cut, even when it was new. Wonder if I just had a bad carbide or something, though another viewer has the same issue. I bought replacement carbides from AZ Carbide and they don’t have a replacement for the 55deg Detailer so I ended up buying the Axe by Carter Detailer, which came with 4 cutters, and it works like everyone else’s diamond shaped cutters. Thanks so much for watching and for the tips! 😊
