  • In this episode of the scrap metal replica, I show how to forge replica of the archaeological find of the Viking Age battle axe. To forge it I used wrought iron and old 19-century steel.

I have seen some axe makers open up a v shape in the softer steel, and then weld a harder steel into the center. I guess, depending on the use, welding the piece from one side is just as good. Interesting.

8:20 how did you get it stuck together here? Put it in the fire carefully and let the heat stick them together? Or heated 2 pieces separately and hammered em together?
