Legiana Collective
Legiana Collective is a rare breed of folk band. With a large number of musicians and their acoustic instruments on stage, the band exhales an inimitable group-energy. They call themselves a ‘Collective’ for a reason: their sound breathes the creativity of a band without a leader, united only by their shared love of music. The Legianas play with one thing in mind: that their audience should have as much fun as they do. Listeners will be struck by the raw and irresistibly danceable energy carried by the rhythmic section and left spellbound by the intricate and subtly harmonized polyphonies of the four-female choir-arguably the band’s core instrument. Their powerful voices sing poetic narratives from North and East Europe, the Mediterranean and the Americas, adding to the rich, multi-lingual sound that sets Legiana Collective apart.
Having established their musical identity through a first album, Ariège, comprised of traditional folk songs played with a modern twist, they return with a second album Wicked Light, featuring mostly original compositions. This new album demonstrates even further the Legianas’ unique ability to transcend the beauty of the old in a young shell-as made evident from the timeless groove of their music to the original artwork of the album, entirely made of handcrafted woodprints. Get ready to be swept away by the organic and unforgettable sounds of Legiana Collective. Based in the Netherlands, but active in the whole world.
Legiana Collective is een bijzondere folkband. Met een groot aantal muzikanten en hun akoestische instrumenten ademt band een onnavolgbare groepsenergie. Ze noemen zichzelf niet voor niets een ‘Collectief’: in hun geluid weerklinkt de creativiteit van een band zonder leider, verenigd door hun gedeelde liefde voor muziek. De Legianas spelen met slechts één zaak voor ogen: dat hun publiek net zoveel plezier heeft als zijzelf. Luisteraars worden getroffen door de rauwe en onweerstaanbaar dansbare energie, gedragen door de ritmische sectie en betoverd door de sensuele en subtiel geharmoniseerde polyfonieën van het viervrouwelijke koor - misschien wel het kerninstrument van de band. Hun krachtige stemmen zingen poëtische verhalen uit Noord- en Oost-Europa, het Middellandse Zeegebied en de Amerika’s, wat bijdraagt aan het rijke, meertalige geluid dat Legiana Collective onderscheidt.
Na het vestigen van hun muzikale identiteit met een eerste album, Ariège, vol traditionals gespeeld met een moderne twist, keren ze terug met een tweede album Wicked Light, met voornamelijk door het collectief geschreven composities. Fantastic live music moment, I presume it's been done in one take, amazing. Littles slightly out of tune moments are bringing something special I love. Especially at 25:25, the way the harpist reacts let think she's not sure to have done well, I don't know if the weird chord was on purpose but I found it really kind of magic. Hope to see this band soon, a shame no date yet scheduled in the SW of France. All the best I'm sure you'll find the great audiences you deserve anywhere you go.

The first song, Wicked lLight, its great., But i think it sounds better with the accordeon. Legiana Collective is outstanding. But with the accordeon guy they are evene more beautiful!
yes, Emanuele moved to France for a while and we miss him and his accordeon very much, he is going to play with us on our tour in France this summer though!
I think the latest live video version of Wicked light from Legiana's own channel is the best so far, with its massive bassy rhythm section. But sure, who doesnt love accordion in a melodic composition?
