4:10 - The volume knob in the channel rack controlls the volume of the sound BEFORE it goes through the Mixer with all the effects. Most plugins have a sweet spot around - 12dB (+/- 4dB) which will make the plugin get the "best" sound out of your sample, you can find it in the plugin's manual. Look up "Gain Staging" :))

the volume buttons on the channel rack are pre- faders and the gainers in the mixer channel are post faders. Thats why the channel rack ones are better :)

The volume knob in the sampler, changes the effects from the mixer aswell. Let’s say you have distortion on a mixer track and you turn down the volume from the mixer, only the overall sound is getting decreased in volume. If you use the sampler knob, the distortion intensifies and ofc the volume of the sample get’s turned up and intensified aswell.

4:25 Bro I can explain why you say this:
The knobs in the sampler and channel rack is for the input signal.
The faders in the mixer channel are for the output signal.
So if the input signal is loud or "clipping" the fader in the mixer channel will only change the output signal and the sound will continue to clip or have a little bit distortion.
That's the reason why we're leveling the sound to the "best" level in the channel rack or in the sampler, if that makes sense.

It is good to level the beat first with the sampler volume knob to have good input signals, but it is very important to use the output fader in the mixer after using effects. If you use the input volume knob it will just change the volume the signal goes into the mixer and the effects. I see a lot of people doing this wrong, they are mixing from start to finish with the sampler volume know and leaving the mixer fader in the "starting" position. And because these are tips for beginners, it should be mentioned.

Hey Chuki, this video was great, as always. But I find myself making beats that doesn't sound professional, and I think it has to do with things like reverb, compression, the master, etc. It would be absolutely fire if you could make a video on some more advanced concepts like those!

QUESTION: In terms of mixing the beat, I want to know if at any point you would add EQ (that doesn't change the sound of the track) and/or compression to the individual tracks to make them stand out in the mix, or is this only done when you are adding vocals to the beat?
I know that EQ can be used in the beat to shape individual tracks get a specific sound (like low passing a pad or vocal sample to make it darker).

You want to lower from the nob on the sample because that's the input volume of the sample going into the mixer. The mixer fader helps balance the entire mix but if you have an input volume that's high and clipping, its still technically clipping even if you lower the fader on the mixer. You're just hearing a clipping sample in a lower volume if that makes sense.

Can you use fruity limiter instead of a soft clipper? Fl studio 20 presets a limiter on the master already...or is it better to swap it out for the soft clipper?
I made a beat and wanted to set my autotune so used autokey and it gave me C Major then suddenly changed to F Minor and I have a feeling is the bass I added cause it gives it a dark vibe, which key should I choose, and the C Major and F Minor are at the same time duration (The reason why I said they are at the same time duration is because just in case you want me to chose the longest part of the key)
