- In the 1980s in Cork we have see the growth of marching majorettes with their own distinct
uniform and dance routine. From all over the city these young girls took part in parades in the city
and entertained onlookers.Sadly we do not see such displays now the era of the Majoretters is over
enjoy the clip

1982 was a good year, one of my favourites in fact! The music fits in perfectly with this superb video!
I'm in the Mayfield majorettes next to the pig marching..that was 43 years ago..Happy day's.
Brilliant piece of film! Great reminder of the shops we used to have on Patrick Street too :-) From the depths of my memory, I think the girls in navy and white at the very start were the Glen troupe, but I can't be sure. There were LOADS of troupes in Cork, and every year there were more of them in the Patrick's Day parade.
Thanks, pugs1970! I remember the Mayfield troupe, but had forgotten that Knocknaheeny had one as well.
There was no one like the Hollyhill Baton Twirlers from Cork City Northside!! They were simply the best troupe on the island!
The Majorettes are still around, however many clubs have evolved into Baton Twirling!! The sport was founded by the Baton Twirling Sport Association of Ireland! for more info find them on Facebook!! Many Happy Years I had!!
Yeah, I have fond memories of that troupe...
I know it was great for those involved but omg it was so boring for those looking on. Ruined the st patricks day parade for years.Miles and miles of majorettes dancing out of sync! The videos provide good memories though for thos involved.
Lmaoooo!
Such bizarre practises.
Creepy shit
