While I do agree that its used too much the reason those base hits are an impact play is because if you take a poor route and it gets by you its an extra base hit now maybe even an inside the parker. The impact is based on how you field.
Yeah, from a purely score-based perspective, hard to say a 2-out single isn't an impact play when a run scores in that inning. Having said that, I'm not sure how it would have been in any way possible to change the outcome, because there is no way that catch is being made, so unless the aim of those impact plays is to actively promote misplaying the ball and throwing the guy out at 2nd or 3rd because we all know the baserunning mechanics are broken, then it had an impact on the game, but so did every play in the inning after that. I can't see deliberately misplaying singles to get easy outs at 3rd as a game mechanic that is in any way logical, so I'm hoping that's NOT why the developers include plays like that in the game as "impact plays".
@MightyGoat i guess it depends on how you judge what are impact plays are......because an impact play could be a guy hits a single into the gap but you misjudge the ball just like you did the other day when you ran right past it so the dude ended up on second base instead of first and thats with no outs then the next guy up hits a long single down the line but the dude from 2nd scores that makes your play an impact play technically
dear god typing this for the idk how many times, impact plays is all plays to you. none is none and the other one is all plays that dont even go to you
