Rest in peace Mr. Frank Wycheck, without you we wouldn't have this iconic play that will live on for ages to come.
Beat me to it! :(
Came here in honor of Frank Wycheck.
U wouldn't have that forward ladderal U mean should of Never been ruled a Legal Play N TD.
@@Frank-Mastro7 Shut up you absolute wacko. It’s been 24 years. It’s never gonna be a forward pass and it never was.
@@Frank-Mastro7 it was 100% a lateral.
Rest in peace Frank Wycheck. Your passing brought me back to a great memory.
R.I.P. Frank Wycheck. Best TE to ever play for the Oilers-Titans team. At the time of his retirement, Wycheck’s 505 receptions was 4th all-time among TEs in the NFL. Oilers-Titans Hall of Fame #89.
R.I.P. to Frank Wycheck and Steve McNair. Thanks for giving us an amazing NFL moment to watch.
One of the most legendary plays in the NFL
Legendary? You mean the greatest no call play of titans history!!!!
This was just as terrible as the tuck rule. Another BLOWN call costing a team a playoff win.
@@bradturner1993 Can you explain please?
@@SixTwoHemi Right after the BALL (the only thing that matters in this throw) leaves his hand, the ball was at the 25 and a HALF yard line. When it was caught, the ball was at the 25 and a QUARTER yard line. It is clearly traveling BACKWARDS in that replay. (I am a Rams fan, so the only interest I had in this game is who the Rams would be playing in the Superbowl)l.
@@Joe_Okey Exactly! That's what made it so legendary
Rest easy Frank. The "Music City Miracle" will live on forever.
I remember this. I watched this live. My memories of this is, “there’s no flags on the field.”
Please post positive proof pronto

That was Mike Keith on the radio call
Rest in peace Frank, wherever you are I hope you're catching passes with Steve again.
❤❤
aww that's so sweet
Great moment in Oilers/Titans history. Thanks for the memories Frank! RIP sir.
RIP Frank Wycheck. I know some disagree, but I’ve always thought that lateral traveled almost perfectly sideways. Beautiful throw by Frank. He will be missed.
Rest in peace Frank!!!! Forever in the history books!!
The Music City Miracle man is now with the angels. RIP Frank Wycheck.
Im from Tennessee, and was only 10 years old when this happened. My cousin and I just happened to turn on the TV at the EXACT moment where this video starts from… I think it was the only play we saw of that whole game, for the next hour we were in my front yard recreating the play over & over. I will never forget it- GO TITANS! ❤
Doubt it was really a "cousin"
@ hilarious.
My pops had head coached high school ball for over 35 years. We are both crazy titan fans. I got him a Father’s Day gift that was a super dope portrait of the music city miracle. It is still in his office as the main piece. What an insane moment.
Props to Joe Theismann for calling it correctly in the heat of the moment. He got a lot of flak in his later years as a commentator but he was dead on accurate with this one.
Mike Patrick called the game. He was the first one to say it.
Except it was in fact a lateral and not a forwards pass.
@@paulcarter9546 Its close but it is a forward pass by a little bit. The ball is thrown behind the marker and caught in front. Just look at the ball placement its very obvious.
@nickrowe4584 wow. Nice take Helen Keller
@@nickrowe4584get your eyes checked
As the late Steve Sabol used to say, The Music City Miracle would go down as the play for the ages.
I watched this live with my dad when I was 7 years old. "The Freak" was my favorite player and I was crying because I thought the Titans were going to lose. We jumped and cheered like crazy when this returned happened. I also remember how long the refs looked under the hood at the replay. My first real NFL memory
I miss the 90's so much. Everything about this is kino. The music, shoddy audio, low-def video, on screen graphics, uniforms, no tablets. Such a great era to be alive. 9/11 ruined everything.
I was 11 years old will never forget this play! I use to mimic it in my house and in my backyard for months lol One of the greatest plays in playoffs history
RIP Frank Wycheck. Had to watch the play after hearing the news. God Speed buddy
As a titans fan, this was the greatest moment in our franchise
Greatest no call in Titans history if you want to praise them
Steve McNair was so happy
@@smokedizzle323 so happy for the win that doesn't even matter after that game much less the no call for a forward pass greatest day in NFL history that's when everyone figured out that the NFL is fixed and today's NFL is even worse and it's not going to get any better
@@bradturner1993 sounds like a bills fan is upset. And it only matters where ther recivers footmis and its behind frank wychek
@@bradturner1993 Cry me a river. Titans fans care less about 1 yard short, than y'all care about this.
Was like 3 or 4am in India when I was watching this live on TV having seen most of the games in the unbeaten run up until that point in the season, including my first NFL game ever which I saw at Adelphia Colosseum. It was incredible! Absolutely incredible play…..
Music City Miracle indeed!
Rest in peace, wycheck. This play will live on forever
R.I.P. Frank. Great lateral brother.. legendary moment.
never forget this....and this trio are my fav NFL commentators of all time...Mike Joe and Paul....legends
I remember watching this live at my cousins house in 1999 I believe. Unforgettable
Came here after hearing about Frank Wycheck’s passing. Only 52. RIP.
I was 12 when this happened.... Still one of the greatest plays I've ever seen
I wasn’t born…

I remember watching it live with my dad. I still remember his disbelief
RIP Frank Wycheck. He was the one that threw the lateral that put the Titans in the history books.
The beauty of this play call was the slow realization of it even having the slightest possibility of being a lateral(kudos to Theismann for holding back) to the realization that it was, without a doubt, a lateral pass. It was this game that really propelled the NFL and broadcasters to get as many cameras on the field as possible...
Because the announcer saw it as forward immediately and the NFL was inspired to get more cameras doesn’t that tell you that it was forward and the refs made a home field call?!?
@@lovett.da.j No, silly. This more than perhaps any play I've seen shows that camera angle can make all the difference in the world. More cameras = more angles = more accuracy. If they'd had to rely on solely the original angle, they would have *incorrectly* ruled it a forward pass.
@@lovett.da.j look at the angle at 2:42. Yes in real time it looked like a forward pass but the Instant replay showed that is was in fact a lateral. It even changed the minds of Theismann and company. It was a lateral and a legal play case closed
@@lovett.da.j It only looks like a forward pass because of where Wycheck and Dyson were standing, which doesn't actually matter. It's about the position of the ball, not the position of the players.
Look at the motions they make.
The furthest forward point on Wycheck's body is the arm holding the ball.
Dyson meanwhile has to take a step backwards and reach behind him to recieve Wycheck's throw.
That was a lateral.
Yo I love watching NFL you guys have so much work into this association
Had to come here after hearing about the passing of Frank Wycheck. May he RIP.
I was at this playoff game. My friend is a Bills fan and he was rubbing it in when they kicked the field goal. When I play this clip I don't only hear the roar of the stadium, I feel it all over again. The entire stadium was swaying. I still get chills when I watch this. Such an amazing experience, go Titans!
Remembering Frank Wycheck. Titans fans around the country are mourning. We will always remember you.
THERE ARE NO FLAGS ON THE FIELD TENNESSEE HAS PULLED A MIRACLE TENNESSEE HAS PULLED A MIRACLE
I remember it like it was yesterday
A miracle yeah right a miracle that they didn't call for a forward pass
@@bradturner1993 Bills fan?
@@bradturner1993 but there were no actually penalties on the play
R.I.P. Steve McNair
Don't hook up with a wacko chick!
Meh
Thank you for releasing this broadcast to your main channel, THAT angle showed clear as day that is was in fact, a lateral, accept reality already, salty Bills fans
I think it was a lateral too. But it was razor thin and too close to overturn call on the field. If one of the officials had flagged it as a forward pass I would bet they would have gone with that call.
Still amazed! “Clear” lateral?!? You must be watching another RUclips video!
@@lovett.da.j well, at no point can you tell that the ball was going forward. It was a lateral
R.I.P. Frank. Thanks for the memories.
RIP LEGEND 🙏🏾
This play alone sparked a huge impact in NFL history
Yeah that's when everyone figured out that the NFL is fixed

R I P Frank Wycheck the music city miracle is one of the best plays if not thee best in NFL history
2:40 Proof of a lateral. Get over it Bills Mafia!
What an awesome feel good moment!
Not a Titans fan but I had to revisit this after the sad news today.RIP Frank.
RIP Frank Wycheck and thanks for the memories!
1:23 "All that's missing is the (Stanford) Band" Literally true. Both TDs were scored by games named KEVIN. Catherine O'Hara would like that.
Heard the news. RIP.
RIP FRANK! Original Titan!
Rip Wycheck young gritty player! Fly high 🎶
RIP Frank! This play will go live on forever
Lorenzo Neal- yes, THAT Lorenzo Neal- with the handoff to Wycheck. Better remembered as Tomlinson’s lead fullback with the Chargers
Isn’t Eddie George in the Hall of Fame also? Pretty good career to be the lead fullback for two running backs of that caliber.
RIP Frank Wycheck, 12-09-2023
He was 52 years old.
Rest in Peace Frank!
This will be replayed in perpetuity.
R.I.P Frank Wycheck
I remember watching this live. Thought about this when hearing about franks passing
RIP FRANK THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES ❤❤❤❤
Unbelievable that this pass was a DEAD on lateral. I have watched breakdown after breakdown. Just seemed impossible that the ball did not go forward.
Imagine had Doug Flutie actually started. Wouldn't have even been this close.
1 Of Biggest bonehead moves in Bills Franchise history.Guy wins 6 in A Row gets u In playoffs then u bench him for rob Johnson the Surfer 😅😅😅 They Got what they deserved.
Yeah imagine having a QB who is winning a lot and then it's playoff time and they go "yeah, let's bench him for the other guy." It's like benching Brady or any QB for the backup no one has heard of. I did some reading on it and apparently the owner of the bills, Ralph Wilson, disliked Flutie because he ran the ball. Then Wilson saw Johnson light up the colts when they rested Flutie for the last game of the season since they had clinched their spot, but the colts had also clinched their #2 seed so it was a meaningless game, it may as well have been a preseason game but even less important. Thought Rob should start the playoffs based on that. They even traded heavily for Johnson when he wasn't even proven to be a franchise QB was the worst part since they gave the Jaguars a 1st and 4th round pick for him.
I was 6 years old when I saw this and it to me is the definition of the game is never over until the clock hits zero this is legendary
Wycheck’s passing at 52 brought me here and after looking at the replays, yes, it’s a lateral. Sorry Bills and condolences to the Wycheck family and Titans fans..
PS that was a designed play called “Home Run Throwback” by Titans HC Jeff Fisher.
Rip Fank, we couldn't have done it without you
I love sports entertainment! Never change, NFL.
drop the politics and were all good
This play single handedly bought Jeff Fisher an extra 15 years as an NFL head coach.
Absolutely legendary
I remember watching this live in 7th grade at my friends house. You can’t buy memories like this.
Frank brought me here. Rest in peace.
I remember watching this live on TV back then. Unbelievable play and ending.
RIP Frank John Wycheck. 😭🌹
Never was a fan of his, but Theismann stepped up well here. The only one trying to figure out what happened and deliver analysis. The craziest moments need announcers at their best, and he delivered. (Ugh, that’s even hard to type, lol)
Frank Wycheck pulled off one of the greatest miracles in Football history. He will be missed.
R.I.P., Frank Wycheck
I watched this live while on my recruiting trip to the Univ of Utah. I was watching this with the WR coach, Fred Graves, coached Kevin Dyson in college. Coach Graves still had a great relationship with Dyson. Coach Graves later told me that after talking to Dyson about this play, Dyson told him that the play was actually designed for Derrick Mason. Dyson had never practiced this play. I believe Mason may have been injured earlier in the game. So it went to Dyson, and the rest is history.
👍
After watching the bills vs chargers today
It was a lateral
Charger tried a version of it today and came up short. 12/23/23
Rip frank Wycheck
I watched this at my friend's house and we went nuts
same here.

2:40 Is the smoking gun that convinced Luckett to call a lateral. No debate.
To throw a dart with no laces is nothing short of amazing.
I met Frankie when he played for the Redskins. Great dude. Rest in Peace.

Titan up baby ⚔️⚔️⚔️
don’t diss my music city miracle. it was most definitely a lateral
3:02 Wycheck makes a surprisingly good pass in spite of the fact he doesn't grip the ball on the seams, which is understandable given that it was a very tense situation and not a whole lot of time to think about proper football throwing etiquette.
LEGENDARY
