I actually really like this version. Yes, it’s not done in the classic rocky horror style and takes away a lot of the story line, but it’s undeniable that Amber Riley has an amazing voice, both tone and range wise, and that she was able to show that off with this song. One of the amazing things about this song is that each person who sings it is able to make it their own. So yes, the lyrical and musical changes are unfortunate, but Amber did an amazing job with it, and I love that she emphasized the more jazzy aspects of the song.
The Mythical Nerd in the original he sings "im a sweet transvestite, from transsexual" in here they changed it to "sweet transvestite, from sensational" so it's just strange that they allowed the word transvestite but removed the word transsexual

Johnny Skyfire none of the guys wanted to do it, the one guy they wanted to play the role refuse to do it because it felt like a stereotype honestly (cause he’s gay and it was like ohh you’re ‘this’ so you should play ‘this role’) and also because he was getting harshly bullied at the time and he ended up transferring schools). the one guy that shows interest, mike chang, ends up pulling out cause his parents refused to let him. the girl singing (mercedes) wanted to do it because she had the confidence and deserved to have a solo since most of them up to this point were going to finn and rachel.
Mercedes’ VOICE is amazing she nailed the song with her amazing high notes. Tim Curry’s PERFORMANCE is iconic, he plays a transvestite so the lyrics really fit the performance. So I feel like those two version are just too different to be compared. And we should just enjoy both and give credit to the artists.
