You guys hit on one of the biggest double crosses of all time. Vince McMahon Sr. and Toots Mondt allowed Bruno Sammartino shoot on Buddy Rogers. According to Bruno, Buddy was told that the finish was a figure 4 leg lock and Bruno would be paid $3,500. Bruno said that he gave the condition to the New York promoters that he would return to the United States if they gave him a match against Rogers. According to Sammartino he told Buddy “do you want to do this the hard way or the easy way” Bruno said that he told Buddy to do his best, then after hoisting him up into a back breaker he told Buddy to give it up or he’d break his back. Sammartino said that he never heard Buddy submit, but the referee told Bruno to put him down as the bell was ringing. Bruno said that the heart attack story was a load of happy horse shit. Sammartino said that Buddy was wrestling on a full schedule. By the way in this time period Bruno was wrestling hour long matches against Monsoon, Kowalski, Bill Miller, and others. Can you guys get Bill Apter, Johnny Rodz or someone from that era to come on your show and tell all.
Rogers famously said according to Thesz, "Screw your friends and be nice to your enemies, so your enemies will become your friends, and then you can screw them too"
Check out Mark Hewitt's book Catch Wrestling. Detailed account of the Munn-Lewis match and goes back to the original strangler Evan Lewis, Hackenschmidt and Gotch.

When the devil went down to Georgia, it was to wrestle Brisco. Charlie Daniel's told me so.😊
History of wrestling interviews are awesome. There are my favorite. Mister Brisco and JBL thank you.
Amazing episode. I could listen to this over & over and pick up something different.
