Today we're looking at the new FG Dynamics plugin from Slate Digital, part of the Virtual Mix Rack system. It's the compressor and gate section of a channel strip on an SSL 4000 series mixing desk (not to be confused with the G-series Buss Compressor) which gives the Slate VMR system a way to now fully emulate an SSL 4000E series desk to fit your workflow.

I loved learning using a gate and comp on every channel when I trained on an SSL4k/6k hybrid board back in '10, and use that same trick in my Reaper track templates with the stock Reaplugs to this day, works especially well for livestreaming!
Yeah it’s so nice to have a way to set things up with the VMR the way I like as a default!
I’m finding a lot of Slate plugins as good as UAD and I’m tired of their prices. I’m going to try the everything monthly pretty soon.

Is there a reason your music audio distorts several times when you stop playback? Perhaps it's an artifact of Google Chrome? Just curious. Cheers
It’s because this project was in 96kHz and stressing my mix pc at the same time as capturing the screen and camera with OBS. Poor thing was running near 100%

Does it control more than 2 plugins yet?
@@adamsteelproducer no. But it is the equivalent to three of those slate plugs you have there.
Equivalent perhaps, but without the ability to control all the other plugins I use, it’s an expensive luxury to me that makes no sense unless you commit to revolving your entire workflow for every project around those 2 plugins
@@adamsteelproducer I have it sitting next to my push 2 using mossgraber script with Reaper. It's the full shabang. 1:1 control of channel/master comp/eq with uc1 and everything else with the push. I like it. And so would you. 😉
And I don't even use the knob on the front to change channels. Thanks to reaper just select the track and it's there. Oh I also use an alphatrack fader. Basically it's mouse and screen free if you want it to be.
