That weird maze thing where it goes sideways upside down etc is also a gravity falls reference as in the physical version of journal 3 that was sold, stanford is shown chasing bill cipher through that same area
I think this episode could also relate to the theory that Evil morty is ricks original morty. And how he used this machine to clear some of morty's memories so that he wouldnt end up like evil morty. This could be rick learning from his mistakes.

Madocvalanor I think it’s not quite so dark. Rick needs Morty to be insecure but willing to take risks. Morty wanting to loose his virginity helps this. If Morty remembers loosing it then he might be more confident and less likely to take risks.
After watching a RicknMorty episode, we must watch atleast 10 different videos to understand all the subtle jokes and hidden meaning. Got hooked to rick n morty after seeing their alien covenant featurettee.

I thought it was interesting that the tools/technology used to wipe memories looked a lot like that machine that rick used at the end of the Unity episode where it looks like he’s trying to kilo himself.

If u compares gravity falls last episode with the last sence when stanford did a mind eraser on bill ciper and stan pines as hes dressed like stanford its weird that this episode shows those 2 memories and plus doesnt the mind eraser in gravity falls looks similar to the one that rick used or look like those capsules that stores those memories
These are all cool, but I honestly think people look way too deep into this. Even Justin Roiland tells people "it's just a cartoon"

While I don't recall who invented memory erasing as a concept... there are many shades of references, some of which are more like cultural influences, so assumed they're almost invisible

No one ever wins those contests, and if someone does it's usually a person loosely associated with the contest promoters. The McDonalds Monopoly game scam is a good example. The reason they want to do the give away on twitter is so when they look for advertising they can say they have "x" amount of followers.
Another cool Easter egg was that in the season premiere, to escape the galactic prison he had to swap minds and leave some of his knowledge behind. So in this episode he gets all his memories back including how to improvise, which he lost.
My fave was when morty was possessed, they were supposed to be loving him and they turned and started poking fun at him... HILARIOUS 😂😂😂

OK, so what I gather is that Mr Lunas went to the moon to steal the flag that was up there, which he later planted in his front yard, and was later draped on his coffin.
But all that does is bring up even more questions.
First and foremost, how was he able to zero-in on the one person on Earth that was looking at him at that exact moment?
Was Rick involved in covering up his existence, and supposed death? Was it just for Morty's sake?
Did Rick put the smudge on the telescope, or someone else that was also trying to cover up Mr Lunas' existence?

Anyone else think the mind-blower with Gobo (when the four kids are riding bikes around) is a possible reference to Stranger Things? Four kids (two white boys, one black boy, and one white girl) ride around on their bikes running from the government to protect an alien? Interesting fact to ALSO confirm the theory that this is the alternate reality R&M that contains the 4th wall breaks and Mr Poopybutthole. This Rick is much more careless and reckless with his experiments: the alien parasite eggs; the life support switch and many other subtle clues point to this Rick as the "4th wall Rick" or the reckless Rick.

When Rick was in the zigerion's simulator he ran through a simulation of the moon landing. Perhaps there will be more subtle cues in the future to tie up the loose ends on the moon conspiracy.
