- Greetings fellow earthlings and welcome to a 1000 turn TimeLapse for Medieval 2 Total War Vanilla.
Which faction will get the win after one thousand turns?
Enjoy. : )
1000 Turns : ) Please feel free to share my videos if, unlike me, you actually have friends to share them with XD
do you want to play a hotseat one day ?
From what I hear - they are difficult to do and take a very long time. I have been thinking about it, but am currently unsure.
Do you have any experience with these ?
@@MelkorGG if you were to do one I have previous hot seat experience
Do you have a steam account?
@bob saget I'll try and remember that. I might do something Hotseat related series for a 1000 submarines special or something. I'm still unsure, but will post a video if I decide to. : )
I became Eastern Orthodox from watching this

I thought Portugal was Carthage for a second! 😂
It sure looked like it
And Byzantium is a Roman Empire
_kakujara夜露死苦 Well maybe because it is the Eastern Roman Empire.
@@TheBlobster1212 oh really? I meant the whole RE before separation
_kakujara夜露死苦 no. sorry but i dont speak english.
So after the Classical Age, the Dark Ages, and The Renaissance, The Roman Empire still rules Europe.
Roma est aeterna
Ah yes, the power of the boys in purple.
Purple gang
@Roniixx I like emperor Alexius of eastern Rome
Can’t believe they reunited Rome in the game
I'm actually amazed the HRE somehow survived almost 100 years with a single province
Rome rises again mongols fail and timurids become an empire
Armenian Venice.
Thats the first time I think that Byzantium (my fav faction gets so big)
First time I saw it also, except for 1 Stainless Steel Timelapse I did where they did very well. : )
Byzantine saw the holy roman empire and was like "Oh hell nah". Lmao
Me in the beggining: "man i wonder how this will go"
Me after seeing Rome become a major power again: "it's... beautiful..."
England : northmen, Byzantium : Rome , Portugal : Carthage and Numidia , Timirids : Seleucids
byzantium reforming the empire :)
Emperor Octavian smiling at this sight.
Justinian 2, Medieval Boogaloo.

they even control the same exact provinces

Only for Rome to win in a surprise upset.
@@RJALEXANDER777rom did defeat boudica. but rome ended up having to leave england after the battle of teutoberg their men in england came back for a campaign in germania. then the celtics took back britannia.
Finally! A game where Byzantium wins!
My favourite faction, the glorious Byzantine Empire rises! Awesome, though I never play them I always want them to do well. but in my games my fav factions always die for some reason, so guess I'm here for the fix instead.
You should play as byzantium in med 2. Its really fun to restore the empire!
I like Rome but when I played as Sicily the first people I attacked were the Byzantines lmao
Dayyym Byzantium took all of without me having to make it a super faction?
Also I can't be the only one that feels like Portugal took the place of Carthage, both in terms of color and lands
Long live Carthage and the SPQR : )
And a united Macedon in the East.
Cant wait for the fifth punic war
Rome’s back baby and this time Germania ain’t stopping them
Thats crazy i never seen Byzantium so big in any of my campings before.
Mentioning crazy if anyone had any crazy campaigns feel free to reply with them i love reading about them
I played as England in a very easy but long campaign and I conquered the world after a 300 turn long war against the Tatar factions, they had huge armies. I had some cities turned into castles in order to recruit as many heavy units as possible, then I sent them to the Eastern front. The Tatars tried to siege my cities but I had fun seeing that the AI was so stupid: their armies were made up of archers and cavalry, so they weren't capable of fighting with melee weapons. My archers could destroy their mounted archers easily, since the English archers are low hands the best in the game. So they had their armies destroyed against the walls of my cities, like Kiev. They were quite dangerous in open field, this is because I avoided them as much as possible. When their army was seriously weak, I had like 5 or 6 full armies to siege and capture all their settlements and I ended it quite easily.
@John Saf I downloaded Stainless Steel and that empire has a strong roster, you should try it
Once i had a Byzantine empire from Baghdad to Marseille (E-W) and from Tripoli to Kyiv (S-N)
Ahem. I have a story.
Our tale begins with a young boy, who should probably be focusing on his GCSEs, spending far too much time playing Medieval 2: Kingdoms. In this particular example, I was playing as the Byzantine Empire in the Crusades campaign, because I liked the idea of using flamethrowers.
You might think that any good game would have an AI which isn’t massively moronic. So did I, before I remembered that this is Total War.
So, first I took most of Anatolia and allied with the Kingdom of Jerusalem (KoJ) and Principality of Antioch (PoA); then the Fourth Crusade turned up, did nothing for several years (possibly a decade or two) and then decided to die; and KoJ started a war by blockading a small port on the South of Cyprus worth about 0.04% of my total income. Because they start off allied with PoA, then I was at war with everyone, since I had also taken a tiny (and very angry) village off Egypt earlier on. This is where things become interesting.
You see, PoA wasn’t prepared for a war, so I took Adana off them before seizing the poorly defended fortress of Caesaria. PoA sued for peace, which I agreed to as they had finally started to move their competent armies up North and I was also rather fed up with the constant capture and re-capture of several of my large towns, and that was the end of that.
But not for long!
The peace lasted about one turn before KoJ blockaded the same small port on the South of Cyprus. Again. And brought in PoA. Again. Luckily, PoA left Antioch entirely unguarded, so I literally just walked in one general to take PoA’s entire reason for existing.
It was around this time that I noticed the half-a-dozen or so generals milling about in Constantinople, all of whom abhorred alcohol. As in, they had the trait “Abhors Alcohol”. However, there was one good general and a bunch of solid infantry, so I sent these to a fortress to pick up some cavalry and Greek Fire. This is a tradition that I kept doing with literally any tolerable generals who pop into existence in my capital for the rest of the game.
After this, Adana decided that it doesn’t like not being PoA, so promptly did an Italy and switched sides. Antioch also rebelled soon after; however, since I had a Chapter House of Saint John in one of my settlements, I was quickly given a mission to reclaim Antioch in the name of the Pope, despite the Orthodox Church having split away from Rome a couple of hundred years prior. By this point, I was at peace with both KoJ and PoA, but I besieged Antioch regardless!
However, PoA used their Holy Witchcraft to force a peace with me, despite that being impossible, so every turn I was putting Antioch under siege before being denied. Eventually, they put a tiny army next to the Antioch that I could attack in order to pull in the garrison as reinforcements, which would (if I routed the garrison) allow me to take Antioch in one turn. I did this, and was then forced into a peace deal with PoA.
During all of this, Egypt decided that the naval game is where it’s at, despite the navy only ever being used for transporting troops around a coast in Total War games of this period. What Egypt’s massive attempt at an armada essentially boiled down to was putting a few of my ports under a blockade. They somehow missed the small one on the South of Cyprus, however. Never being one to miss a chance to give you déjà vu, KoJ quickly seized the the initiative, again, and blockaded the port, again. This brought PoA into the war, again.
After all of this, PoA decided to ask for more Divine IN intervention and forced a peace deal before almost immediately attacking me, which KoJ decided was uncalled for since the declaration of war didn’t involve the blockading of a small port on the South of Cyprus. (By this point I’m actually considering abbreviating small port on the South of Cyprus to SPotSoC.) Because of this virtual war-crime, KoJ decided to stick with me, the Orthodox Church, instead of PoA, the only other crusaders in the entire region.
That was where I left off, before my computer decided to commit suicide, thereby preventing me from doing anything else like destroying the entire Mongol Horse using nothing but Greek Fire. Or blockading one of KoJ's ports, just to see how they like it.
Anyway, that's probably my favourite ever campaign in any Total War game. I hope you enjoyed reading about the wars of the (everyone say it with me) small port on the South of Cyprus, and I'll see you next week. I've been Leon, this has not been Many A True Nerd, and this has been a RUclips comment. Thank you for watching, and goodnight.

Byzantine looking like Rome out here
When I watched the repeat, the first thing I though of Portuguese being Carthage and Byzantium being SPQR with those border colours. : )
Byzantium is Rome!
Rome rises again!
Woow just wow, you put so much effort in these timelapses that's insane... 1000 turns...
I love the lord of the rings music in the background
I love how the game evolved and generally made two super powers, Byzantium and Timurds, while also keeping other two great powers there, England and Portugal.
And yes, Mongolia is still somehow holding, even with its possessions in Europe.
Ah yes, the famous Mongolian Pomerania. XD
Really impressed by the byzantine comeback.
Portugal creating an empire of its own at the edge of the map is interesting.
Portugal became cathage
The year is 3078 by the end...
XD
I know im super late but this is the funniest thing ive ever seen medieval 2 related. Byzantium is also my fav so this is just icing on the cake to see them dominate, well done
Loved the staring contest across the Aegean Sea
The light of Rome shall never die! Roma Invicta! Roma Aeterna!
One game I played as the Venetians and the Byzantines just died with out a war or anything
Unlucky day for them I guess. : )
@@MelkorGG wasn't for me
Yeah literally this is what I'm used to, Constantinople always falls to either the Hungos or the Mongols and the faction sort of just flounders about until it dies
The Roman Empire, reborn!
Newsflash, Rome always WINS!

Despite countless crusades and the invasion of the Timurids, Egypt held on for a while. Kudos to them
beautiful, i wonder if i'll evur see medieval 3 total war
1) thank you for the soundtrack. The Rohan OST and The Battle of Pelennor OST I love the most in LoTR music;
2) 1000 turns... 2 years per turn... was it 3000 AD at the end of the timelapse?) So, the end of the Campaign here is in 980 years in the future?)
Melkor may have reduced the timescale

Russia:... why am i hearing piano music?
The return of the Roman Empire, the Bastion against the east.
I think the Romans were hitting up more than protein shakes this time, though my god FINALLY the Romans get their rightful place in Medieval 2
I have NEVER seen the Byzantines do anywhere near that well before
Imagine those dark times for the Holy Roman Empire. When their Empire began to disintegrate and those provinves were left isolated and abandoned to their own desperate devices. Imagine the hopelessness and fear 😨
Good job. Thanks for the work you put into these
I am always really surprised at how passive Scotland is. It just seems as if they are only in the game to get taken out by England. I have never seen them do anything in my campaigns.
In some AI Onlys they have defeated the English and conquered the British Isles, even eventually take territory in France, but it is rare. : )
I did a campaign as Spain once, I somehow ended up facing the Empire of Scotland at the end of it. Actually had an enemy capable of challenging my Tercios thanks to their super-armoured pikemen.
Yeah in all my time I've only ever seen them kill England once and a few times I've seen them go around England and try to take Antwerp
Rome (Byzantia) backs to live
Great music as usual - just spent a good hour listening to 2 steps from hell lol
Someone went back in time and closed the Kerkoporta...

I love that you always give lord of the rings music to your videos
Rome/Byzantium: It is never to late to reclaimed lost provinces, or even acquire new ones haha
Two of my favorite boys performing really well.
How do you get 1000 turns? Modified anything in the files or is it mod? I like to dominate the whole map.
I keep clicking end turn. There is no mod or anything. If you keep clicking end turn the game will continue.
Eventually there will be a pop up saying you ran out of time, but there is an option with that popup which asks if you want to keep on playing. Just press the keep playing button or whatever they call it.
@@MelkorGG cool I never got that far. I just assumed you got booted.

1:00 Ah yes, who remembers when Stettin was controlled by the Mongols...
For the first in history Spain is surrounded by sea and Portugal 🤣
Wow, I never see the Byzantines do so well in my campaigns. Roma invicta!
Rooting for Poland was a rollercoaster.
I have an idea, if you used the "surrender_regions faction" cheat, you could do faction 1v1's. Just an idea though.
It is something I plan to do. Sadly that cheat does not work for me - windows 10 compatibility issues causes some cheat code problems at times. But I have alternate ways. : )
@@MelkorGG Interesting, I also have windows 10 yet it works perfectly for me. I guess it doesn't matter as long as you have alternative means though. :)
@@MelkorGG Yeah I would really like to see 1v1 campaigns you could put them on opposite corners of the map
It should be Spain in Iberia and maybe England/France/Venice in Russia or somewhere.
What exactly do you type?
I love to see the byzantine do well, return the former glories of rome!
This Comment Contains Spoilers and things to take note of:
Really Quick Rise of the Timurids: 1:11 (also, look at Byzantium at this point compared to the end)
Fall of England: 2:08
"Fall of England" you say? By my count in that second they have 17 settlements. 2 more than their end result.
: ) I could have titled that a bit better. Basically they lost most of their empire for a while, but of course manged to regain territory elsewhere. : )
The bloody Byzantines! Holy cow.
Im playing as England and havent left the isles yet I am waiting untill turn 400 then will begin the largest invasion in TW history
Wasn’t pointless 😭, I actually enjoyed watching the Timelapse. Never seen the Byzz Empire expand so far 😂
Rome's former glory partially restored 💀💀💀
MAKE ROME GREAT AGAIN
7:16. So it is possible? I've never seen that before.
Hah! More like Timur the Lame! ...oh, wait.
Ai doesn’t change the capital, it is changed automatically when a fraction loses its capital.
No, they can change their capital. It happens all the time when a faction builds a big enough Empire.
My proof is that I have seen factions change capitals, in AI onlys, when they have never lost their original capital. And I see this every AI Only game, and I have done about 60 of them for Rome 1 and Med 2.
England, Byzantium, Portugal, and Mordor, the four powers of the earth
that probably took some time to get through
: ) a VERY long time : )
@@MelkorGG I thought so xD
Which year is it after 1000 turns? Vilket år är det efter 1000 omgångar?
Hello, thx for the video. Is this possible on hard difficulty? I usually play on hard, because i find very hard diff too rushy and i dont like for example when iam spain, in turn 6 i have sicilly attacking my city - nonsence. Thx
It is. From my experience, as I once did this on easy difficulty, they usually seem the same in AI onlys.
Although I do have one planned where I try that difficulty, but don't know when it will be as it is not a priority TimeLapse. : )
wow the settlement in the western africa wasnt conquered
Usually isn't. The AI struggles to get there at times, but weirdly in others they sometimes do. : )
@@MelkorGG oh yeah now i remember
Do you need any mods to play 1k turns?Or if a I just play normal campaign would i be able to do it?
No Mods. If you keep on playing it will never end. It will come up with an "end of campaign" notification at turn 250 or something, ignore that, click continue and you should be able to keep on going. : )
@@MelkorGG thank you.i always thought that the campaign would end at 250( never came that far). This is a great think to know :)
good video keep up the good work
Thanks, I will. : )
the byzantines: hippity hopitty, europe is my property
Good video and music love it
melkor how long did it take to make this timelaps
An average Timelapse takes about 9-10 hours. Usually there's 2 hours of modding, 5 hours to record it and then 2 hours to edit, render, upload and publish. (Some more some less, this is just the average).
However, most of it only needs me to click the end turn button, so I usually read a book or watch a podcast or something whilst recording. : )
@@MelkorGG mod? what do you mod?
This one was not modded, but others such as Random Start Locations: ruclips.net/video/cABxguQCrWw/видео.html , and Capital Only TimeLapses need a lot of modding.
Fuck me I'm living in the wrong timeline

how do you play as the aztecs? in medieval 2 my game crashes when i start a campaing as aztecs
In the Desc_strat file, find the Aztec faction and delete the line that says "undiscovered." I found it out from this video: ruclips.net/video/93AdKUMvCY4/видео.html . That should work. : )
@@MelkorGG thanks
@@MelkorGG But don't they lack ships to cross the ocean to get to Europe?
True. This makes them playable to be able to do A.I. Onlys, such as these TimeLapses. But not playable in an actual Let's Play Campaign sort of way - although I do think there is a Mod for it out there, somewhere. : )
@@MelkorGG There probably is I think, hopefully that is. Would be fun taking over the world as the Aztecs lol
Diplomacy in this game is fucked beyond all recognition BUT I love it nonetheless
I’m surprised Poland was so resilient.
But I wouldnt have pick Byzantium as the winner...
Is it possible to get the save file around the time Venice is about to be wiped out? I kind of want to play that campaign.
It is, but only Azecs are playable, as that's who I play for it to work.
MELKOR
Damn, although can’t you use console commands to switch your player faction?
@@kekero540 Sadly not.
Although there's a team of Russian Modders who managed a way to do it for Rome 1 TW a few months ago, it's not possible to do with Medeival 2.
MELKOR thanks though, love your stuff, keep doing what you are doing.
The Ai is f***ing ridiculous in me2 as it was in the first game.

How?!?! What did you give the Komnenans? Flamethro- oh yea they do get those 🤔
How had you achieved all the factions to be played by A.I.?
How do you make AI gameplay?
Is anyone going to mention how Venice ended up Migrating to Egypt?
Byzantine lost Asia Minor again...
Can you play as Byzantines? If you can, when I buy this game, the Roman Empire will be back!
Yes, it is possible. I think you have to win a Campaign as one other faction first to be able to unlock them though. : )
Melkor oh so kind of like Rome Total War, AKA the only total war game I have.
Yep, exactly. It's a lot like Rome 1. : )
RECONQUISTA RECONQUISTA
Sons of Rome !!!
Who is the dark red in Egypt?
Venice
If byzantium had cannons, crossbowmen, better spearmen and those alan mercenaries just like the stradiots of Venice(historically the stradiots were greeks, the style was adopted by the albanians as well mainly in southern italy, the Venetian stradiots were 70% greeks) in the game, then their campaign would be a suggestion for the beginners 😛😛😛.At least you can train militias everywhere, so you throw them once and retrain them immediately, they are for one use, but they do the job....Let's be honest, the Romans were adapting like pros, the had the best army in the world, they knew how to deal with the Mongols before the Mongols even arise(they had adapted the tactics of the huns and the various turkic nomads).Anna Komnena describes how you can deal the Seljuq Turks and make them break instantly.Manuel Komnenos was a huge admirer of the western knights, he introduced their tactics into the Empire's military and even organised duels, but here we have a game and the game must be balanced, and since diplomacy in Mtw2 is a shit, military weaknesses can balance the game good enough!
Long live England!!!
A I ?? Omg you were the aztecs
Yep, Aztecs. I could also play Rebels if I wanted to
@@MelkorGG did u played normal campaign or a hotseat one ?
Normal Campaign
In terms of sheer territory this is basically Hitler's dream. A Roman Empire spanning from the Pyrenees in the west, to the Russian steppes in the east, and to Greece in the south. Too bad the U.K. Is being a nuisance, in history as in the game. If it weren't for England Rome would have captured Spain. And who knows without that constant pressure in the west they could have reconquered the east also. What an incredible time lapse.
