Great video Jaliya. There's one important step that needs to be added to the beginning of the video. Before powering off the transceiver, make sure that you're in the VFO mode, and then you press MW+DW+Power to enter the service menu. If the transceiver is not in VFO mode, then you won't be able to enter the service menu by pressing MW+DW+Power , so first you have to make sure that you're in VFO mode.
This was a super helpful video, and pushed me over the edge towards buying one of these to replace my 25+ year old kenwood. Being able to have an ultra low power setting for local repeaters, and dialing down the "high" setting for thermal reasons is super convenient. Thanks for sharing, and thanks for following best-practices in not using more power than required to make a QSO. 73
Jaliya thanks for the video. I have reduced the HP to 50W. I have one more question. The default step in my rig is 12.5. How to change the default in to 5Kc step. Each time i switch off and on it goes back to 12.5 step. Please help. Partha-VU2GPS.
@@AD2MM_NYC no it didn’t. It made it weaker. The 2900 was famous for blowing finals. The giant heat sink on the 2980 worked so well they bumped the power up to 80watts! If you want low power use the other settings. 🤦🏻♂️
@@4S7JL Your welcome! And it got STUCK IN that menu until after the 3rd hard reset. Maybe my US model "R" has that function "crippled" eh? Finally got things back to normal though. Alot of dead channels removed. Back down to 20 good repeaters to scan.
@@santerre1974 there is at least one video out there that demonstrates how to do the mod. Or do what I did. I got it done professionally at the ham radio store I bought it at so that would void the warranty

Glad I could help!
Thanks for the video. I just got this radio and wanted to lower the high power settings. Very helpful.
Happy to help de 4S7JL
Great video. You should do another video and dig deeper into the secret settings. I’m curious what else the radio can do
Thanks Jaliya !
This is VERY useful. Now I know why they call it Low 1, 2 & 3, because there is no fixed value.
Does something think this is voiding warranty?
I dont since ur not going above the rated output instead below or to the max of what the manufacturer recomends so propabaly not
