    Holy shit dude… this video literally made me laugh and almost cry tears of joy. That quote “in those five seconds, you just experienced total recovery” is all I needed, because it’s so true. The last 4 weeks have been really hard, but every week has gotten a little better. This last week was by far the best and I was able to distract myself and not think about it for upwards of like 15-20 minutes at a time, maybe even longer. Today I’ve almost relapsed and started stressing about it more, which just caused more anxiety because I was doing so well, but it feels like all that progress was for nothing because today has really sucked. But that quote literally just raised my spirits. It really makes you realize that, if you don’t focus or think about it, it won’t effect you. And I’ve already experienced that a few times and it’s been slowly happening more and more. Thank you Shaun. I’m not recovered yet and fear It may still take awhile, but this just resparked my hope and I truly believe if I just continue on this path to recovery, I will get rid of it.

    This was med induced for me
    I’m unable to connect at all to real life and it’s concepts
    Started in 2021, relaxed talking to a friend and all of a sudden I’d not”understand” a simple word or concept, like I knew it was easy to understand and just came on no reason, I’d flip out and go into full panic
    So I medicated more before I interacted to but experience it.
    Before meds I was sooo intrigued by all things metaphysical and existential
    I worked with the dying
    I could connect to anyone regardless if we had anything in common or not
    So I isolated more
    Been completely alone 2 and half years
    Of course list all friends and family, they think I’m nuts and just don’t care about anyone
    Literally a text messaging from someone saying something normal flips my brain out
    The trees, the sky, the universe, everything I identified with and was in awe and intrigue over , all upside down world
    Can’t even watch tv for same reason, “normal” life even in RV freaks me the fuck out
    It’s so bad so so bad
    And of course panic attacks if I leave the house now
    It feels like complete brain damage
    All my gifts gone
    I’ve only just started showering in the daylight because if it and farrrk
    Meds all made it so much worse now off them and so hopeless
    Please help
    50yo I had a good life, great career and friends family, huge heart. Gone
    Do you think anhedonia is like a coping mechanism for dpdr
    I’ve not heard anyone this debilitated by it. I can’t seem to fake normal even in a text without wanting to die

      Hi there,
      Thanks for your comment and I'm sorry to hear you've been having a difficult time. Firstly, if you are experiencing any thoughts of self-harm, please do speak to a medical professional as soon as possible. Secondly, I know DPDR can be scary but just remember that it’s a natural reaction to stress and anxiety, and people experience it all the time. The National Institute on Mental Illness estimates that up to 75% of people experience at least one depersonalization / derealization episode in their lives. It's part of your brain's natural defence mechanism and usually it only lasts a few seconds or minutes at a time. It's only when it's focused on as a separate problem (feeling like you're going crazy / in a dream etc) that it can turn into a feedback loop with the anxiety that caused it in the first place. But no matter what caused it or how long you've had it, you can always switch it off completely by stopping that anxious feedback loop. Make sure to carefully read through all the articles and info on my website at www.dpmanual.com and my book The Depersonalization Manual.
      And if you would like to speak to a medical professional please don't hesitate to do so. I would recommend finding an anxiety specialist if possible as they will likely be more familiar with DPDR 👍

    Hi i have had depersonalisation before which lasted for about 5-6 months last year which naturally disappeared as I was busy with exams and tried my best to ignore it. I recently just got it again and I was wondering if anyone experiences this it’s hard to explain but when I think about it deeply and close my eyes I get this outer body experience where I literally don’t feel like me and I can’t recognise who I am at all, this last for about 20 seconds and I panic. I haven’t seen anyone speak about this and I was wondering if it was normal. Usually throughout the day I will have this detached feeling and I do my best to get through the day but every time I sit and think about it, it intensify’s to this crazy feeling which I explained above. Please let me know if this is normal to experience and whoever is reading this we all got this keep a strong mindset it will take time but it will go. Be strong ❤

    I have extreme anxiety and panic from combat , but I honestly thing my first panic attack is what has caused me several years of depersonalization . Medicine make me feel even worse. The other day a friend came over and made me get up and do things all day and guess what? No anxiety all day long. Oh, my anxiety usually stems from me overthinking things like covid 19, the. I have a symptom like stuffy nose and immediately all my thought go to having covid which I never have. I’ve been tested like 30 times . How can I stop this cycle?

    I have social anxiety and I suddenly developed gad from ruminating about my anxiety, I have started nofap last month since porn used to be my way of coping and I am constantly get dpdr episodes. Usually, when I distract myself at home, I feel more at ease. However ever since school started, It's gotten so bad where I would constantly get panic attacks.

    Listen I have had derealization for 7 years straight TRUST me this NEVER happens to me, I literally cannot grasp what feeling reality feels like I am not overreacting I do not know what it feels like and I definitely do not go through a second of my day not feeling derealised. Sometimes I feel like what it would feel like to be aware and in like oh shit but it's just a feeling of what I SHOULD feel

    • @ArminVanLiberty
      @ArminVanLiberty 2 года назад

      We don't know what reality feels like but there are tiny little moments where our brains trick us into forgetting about it, even if we are not fully aware of this because we obsess so much. It really is fear and obsession that fuel the unreality feelings. If this guy genuinely believed he was in Hell or was dead, as some DP/DR sufferers do, but still had the occasional 5 seconds of forgetting about it, it means anyone can enter a state of non-DP/DR through distraction. It's easier said than done and seems impossible because we are too aware of our disconnection. I've entered a state of what I call "beyond DP" and it's renderers me dysfunctional, but even I have a tiny few seconds here and there where my mind is distracted.

    I read somewhere that it caused by reoccurring trauma typically throughout childhood that got triggered by a stressful event and that when you resolve that trauma it will clear up. If I’ve distracted myself enough to stop worrying about it will i ever truly feel real again if I haven’t processed those past traumas properly? Is dp a result of anxiety or trauma?

    • @Dpmanual
      @Dpmanual  5 лет назад +5

      Hey, thanks for the comment. No, recurring trauma in the past doesn't need to have happened. DP can be triggered by any number of stressful events, but it's not necessarily linked to any events in your childhood etc. You can have had a perfectly happy upbringing with no traumatic incidents and still develop Depersonalization. Hey, thanks for your comment. So know DP can be scary but just remember that it’s a natural reaction to stress and trauma, and people experience it all the time.
