Hi all-I've had a lot of interest in my Upwork systems over the last few weeks, so thought I'd record a video on them. This is the exact flow I've used to make an average of ~$20K on Upwork for the last year, and you can build it yourself in maybe an hour.

WHY ME?
If this is your first watch-hi, I’m Nick! TLDR: I spent five years building automated businesses with Make.com (most notably 1SecondCopy, a content company that hit 7 figures). Today a lot of people talk about automation, but I’ve noticed that very few have practical, real world success making money with it. So this channel is me chiming in and showing you what real systems that make real revenue look like!
Hopefully I can help you improve your business, and in doing so, the rest of your life :-)

The value of the info you provide in your videos is astounding! I am learning so much as a 55-year-old noobie to the world of AI! Thank you!
P.S. a video focusing just on the regexes you use in the HTML to text modules would be very helpful.
55 years old! What a legend! 🫡
As someone who has just left an in-house CRM role, this is exactly what I was looking for
Was going to build this out in Zapier, but I like this layout a lot
Amazing value in this video, thanks mate
Grateful I could help man, hope your next step is a big one!
So nice to see usefull and effecient Make automations 🥳
Great job
Nice work! Thanks for the walk-through. Impressive as hell!
No problem! Hope you find success with this too!
This is absolutely brilliant!!! You've earned my subscription 😃
Thank you man! Love your channel too.
❤. Hi Nick, another inspirational video. A thought/question :- is there a benefit and a way to run the GPT initial training once per session/day etc then leverage that GPT session for each job in the list? Ie if you are dealing with 200 per session 18 x a day you could start seeing a big bill for for GPT tokens when in actual fact only 10-15% of the tokens used are going to the actual job selection. If I am not understanding the flow, I am sorry but just seems an interesting point to me. Cheers.
What greatness and creativity, man
You are my role model from now on♥♥
🙏🙏 thank you chief
Nick,
This was impressive. While this isn't my primary niche, I truly appreciate automation, systems and processes and anything that can help someone work smarter vs harder. Would like to bounce some ideas off of you on how this could be used for video/content creation services on Upwork. Would love to bounce some ideas off of you and discuss any ways I can help you out and be of service to you.
Thanks again for a great video and hope to hear from you.

P.S. - Yes, I did subscribe.

This made me smile-thanks Rodney! Sure shoot me a DM on Twitter.
This is great content, thank you for showing us how to do this!
quick question, what prevents this workflow from adding the same duplicate projects to the airtable each time it runs?
Is it checking the upwork url for uniqueness somewhere?
This is part of the RSS feed functionality, luckily-every time it runs I only get new responses. But if you wanted to avoid duplicates you'd just add a filter before the last module. Something like "only proceed if URL doesn't exist in Airtable column X".
This was great, Nick. Thanks so much for sharing!
A few questions:
1. How do you have your filters set up for project vs. hourly? I just wound up going with text does/does not contain a dash (-) because the projects don't have price ranges but I'm curious how you did it.
2. How do you have the URL format set up in Airtable for your job link button?
3. This looks like it's fairly heavy of Make process consumption. I suppose this is your business so you're probably fine with that but curious how much usage you're seeing with this scenario?
Thanks again!
Great q's man! Dash filter works, I look specifically for "Hourly Range" in the description. For URL I use the ID and remap my own link to the proposal page (www.upwork.com/ab/proposals/job/{id}/apply). Lets me one click and get to the proposal page rather than do it twice. Consumption is fairly high, I think ~10K/mo. For me it's worth it since a single job pays that off and the system lets me apply to significantly more than I'd be able to otherwise.
Hope this helps 🙏
Are you also applying to job automatically, or you’re manually copy/pasting the AI generated script from Airtable to Upwork for each project?
Hey Nick. Love your content. In the end of this scenario, are you creating two separate AirTable databases? One for hourly and one for fixed budget? I didn't see any columns for that info in your spreadsheet. Where does that info go? Thanks so much
Hi Nick, could you please create a tutorial video for this topic as well? It would be very helpful for us. Your "Make Automation" series was excellent, and we believe a tutorial on this topic would be equally valuable. Thank you.
I've watched several of your videos. This one most of all has me convinced that "There's gold in them thar hills."
This was really helpful! I'm searching for cold email listings. For the wide search would you recommend "cold email" or just email? Or maybe the main tool I support clients with?
I'd do a combination. Iirc you can add multiple terms by adding a plus between them. So if your platform was Instantly, you'd probably do something like Instantly+OR+Cold%20Email. This would let you get any listings with the word "cold email" in them along with any that include the word "Instantly". That said I may be off with my formatting here so plz check those RSS docs!
@@nicksaraev that's helpful, thank you!
Hi Nick. What would be the alternative now that Upwork RSS is being discontinued?
Amazing value you're providing here. I just hope I'm not too late to join the field
Great stuff Nick! I love the way you talk with passion about your business. You've inspired me to try it on my own! I just got my 1st project for CRM!
Quick q: Is there a way to implement this social proof concept without having much experience?
Thank you Jake! Crossing my fingers for you man, best of luck.
Re: social proof absolutely. It's significantly harder but just think of your campaigns as having a lower conversion rate-if you increase volume on the back end it'll all even out.
A good way of getting a few early case studies, btw, is reaching out to marketing directors or managers at 1-10 sized companies & offering your services free. That's how I got my start. I know a lot of YT frowns on "volunteering" but I conceptualize it as just another exchange (where you work for social proof instead of capital). Once you have a few under your belt it makes everything easier!
The RSS feed is not available now how can we get a new job notifications?

Hi Nick - another great video. I did not see the blueprint for this one in your Notion doc. Are you releasing this one ?
Super solid. Agree that a bit of customization can make you standout. Any advice on how to price this kind of agency /contractor work?
Yes, I'm going to do a video on this and how to sell automations the second I finish the course!
Great flow. Curious: how long does it take you to build such flow, once you get the idea of what you want to do (ex here “automate identifying
Ing new relevant offers on Upwork and send a personalized proposal” => how long to get this working flow ?
It looks like Upwork took away the RSS feed. Do you have a workaround?
This is a really great video. I can build it from the video, but it would be nice to have the blueprint. Thanks a lot, and keep posting these great videos.
This is great information. You know what would make it that much better? The stuff in the Airtable dataset.
love you bro. Thanks a lot for sharing such a gem video
hey do you offer any training or a course for this?
What is "job" in your context? A running program or work you offer?
This content is gold! Do you have a course or give classes?
Thank you bro! I don't have a course as of today, but it's something I'm considering
Great stuff, Nick! Are you saying that you generate $20K/mon from upwork jobs using this automation to respond to the posts? I don't see the json file for this blueprint in Notion. Did I miss it? I may have, it happens. Thanks again for the great content!
Thanks so much Rick. Yes-I've averaged ~$20K/mo! Think you could scale this significantly and make much more if you were committed though (just short on time).
I don't have a blueprint for this yet but will upload soon! 🙏
Can you provide us with the blueprint file?
Just curious, how many proposals you sent and how many offers do you finally get with this?
Conversion rate is ~1/5 right now, but this depends on the jobs you pick. Higher ticket stuff is generally harder (but disproportionately worth it). I.e 20% conv rate on $2K avg projects is equivalent to "making" $400 per proposal, while a 5% conv rate on $20K avg projects is equivalent to $1000 per proposal. I would always prioritize the latter.
Hey buddy that video was amazing and I have been watching one a day to see what i can implement and what clever angles you use.
I looked at the file with the make scenario jsons and this one is missing from the list.
maybe Orit's under a different name or something.
Any chance you could point me to the resource? That would be awesome thanks
What paid plan do you have currently with OpenAI? I was looking through the different types of tiers but I'm curious for your personal use what tier you use.
My current limit is $10K/mo (tier 5 iirc, which I believe is their highest). I only have this because I've worked my way up to it-longtime user and I pay a fairly chunky amount every month.
hey love the video, any chance you've recorded a detailed step-by-step guide I could buy?
I don't have anything like that right now. Do you want me to make one? I do routinely bill $10K+ for these systems-I've just never considered selling around how to build them, but that sounds interesting.
if you can yeah, I'd like to know how to do these types of automation and this one is a great starting poing@@nicksaraev
Great, thanks for the feedback man
@@nicksaraev I am also interested in the step-by-step guide whenever its ready
I’m interested too.
Hello - Thanks a lot! - How to get the json blueprint for this scenario please? thanks
Is there a new system now that upwork has banned RSS feeds?
Yes, there is a new system in place now that Upwork has banned RSS feeds. Instead of using RSS feeds, Upwork now has a curated list of job postings that are relevant to your skills and experience. This new system ensures a more
Very interesting, it basically finds you jobs on Upwork automatically?
Pretty much!
How can I build the airtable and the Make automation ? Can you share the make file to duplicate it in our own account? And share the airtable ?
So this is just for leads generation?
Curious how you evaluate what’s worth more: keep a flow like this to yourself and monetise it or turn it into content to grow your audience?
This is a great question and one I've thought a lot about.
I believe building a brand is much, *much* more powerful, but you have to zoom out sufficiently to see it. Unfortunately, most people can't-they have near term financial requirements that force them to look at things very myopically.
I.e "Why would I dedicate 10 hours towards the nebulous goal of building a brand when I can perform 10 hours of labor, make $1,000, and pay my rent instead?"
Post I wrote on the subject of calculating brand building ROI if you're interested: nicksaraev.com/long-termism/

How much does this consume based on the usage limit of open ai? Given that input is $10.00 / 1M tokens and output is $30.00 / 1M tokens? If I run this daily? Kinda new to this and want to try it out :)
Hey Frances, def give it a try. My OpenAI bill is anywhere from $300-$1K/mo, although I should note that's blended between a bunch of different business processes. I think if you were to optimize the hell out of it (set strict character limits, strip whitespace, use turbo models) you could get it down to ~$100/mo.
Really good thumbnail
Thanks man.
Before rushing in creating account , remember there are very cheap labour who will compete for 1-10$ and its impossible to find work on upwork😑
This sounds interesting system. I m using zapier and pebbly does it work
I imagine that with openai costs and upwork connect costs, this automation must get quite expensive to run, probably around $10-15/day if you apply to ~5 jobs daily. Upwork has become crazy expensive unfortunately.
More, actually. My bill was ~$2K/mo half a year ago, much of that was on bids (I'd always aim for 1st or 2nd place). Think I was doing 30 apps/day. Since then I've substantially lowered application volume, which has greatly improved net at the cost of top line rev. Worth.
Great video, Nick. Any way to get this make scenario?
I'll make a library with these & all my other scenarios at some point, thx
Thanks Nick, it would be nice to get some Airtable views/graphs etc. for the amount of bids made, reply ratio.. basically analytical to make better decisions and make changes.
Hey Nick, I just watched your video and I must say that it was really informative and well-made.
I was wondering if I could help you edit your videos and repurpose your long videos into highly engaging shorts? I can also make high CTR thumbnails for your channel

@@nicksaraev Hey, I contacted you but I didn't heard back from you.
I'm hitting rate limits on GPT-4. I feel like I did something wrong here. Like shouldn't I only be reading the description? I'm not sure what I can set up in RSS / text parser / or OpenAI to keep this from happening
Yeah - it looks like I just used $3.81 cents running this over the course of an hour. I must be doing something wrong here.
Hmm. How new is your OpenAI account? If you're on Tier 1 your limits are 10K tokens/min iirc, which may lead to rate limits if you're running a lot of records quickly. Try adding a 5s sleep after the GPT-4 module just in case.
In any case $3.81/hr is def too much. My costs are ~1/10th. How many items is your RSS feed pulling? Are you feeding in the whole HTML description, or are you parsing it with an HTML->text to remove unnecessary tags/tokens?
@@nicksaraev By the way, Nick, your content is incredible. I've only spent a couple of days watching you, but you've really opened my eyes to the potential of automation in my lead generation business. I've had 10 years in client-facing roles and was formerly trained as a salesperson. If you want to have a conversation about how I could be of value to your organization, I'd be excited to chat.
am i right in thinking airtable is just the same as google sheets? wonder why people dont just use that?
My take is it's "Sheets on steroids". You have the basic functionality inherent in any db ofc, like columns, rows, primary keys, etc, but one of Airtable's big selling points is that it lets you mock up frontend UIs using this data. They brand it as their interface builder iirc which you should check out if you're interested
Airtable also includes a bunch of built in automations (not shown here) that do maybe 80% of what's possible in Make, so it's attractive as an all in one solution. Hope this helps 🙏
@@nicksaraev Thanks bro, much love. Appreciate the detailed answer.
Can you make a Tutorial for this but instead of using airtable you use Notion?
I might make a series on how to build these flows out on different platforms-Notion, Monday, etc-if there's enough demand 🙏
looks interesting

Im getting an error on API call from Open AI... 429 token limit. I have an account with payment method, less than $50 which put me in the tier 1... Not sure about it. Any ideas? Thanks for sure tutorial man, I sub'ed you!
I got it, it seems Open AI limits you by spending. I recommend spending $50 and wait 7 days since first payment to be able to not have a TOKENS PER DAY limit which is a bummer when trying to work this things up.
Thanks and good on you for implementing this in practice. Sounds like you figured it out but yes-any 429s are you running into the rate limit because of account tiers. Here's a detailed breakdown from OpenAI (they update this every so often): platform.openai.com/docs/guides/rate-limits
To avoid issues like this erroring out your flow, I'd enable storing of incomplete scenario executions and then add a break module connected to the Completions module. 3 x 15 minutes should be enough. This will let Make automatically retry calls when you get rate limited so it's on autopilot.

Technology is so cool
Agree 100%
You're very intelligent, but your videos need a description/demonstration of what your function is producing instead of just going straight into making it. it's like saying hey guys we're going to make a flaggle Bopper, let's get started.. I have no reason to make a flaggle bopper without knowing what it does.
Thank you! This was the first one iirc - hopefully much better now 🙏
I think you would have a lot more luck and a lot better videos if you made some more theory videos. Like what types of things are possible? Automation ideas, examples of things. That way it will give us an idea of exactly what's possible and we can use our imagination to create our own.
Did they kill the Upwork RSS feed because of you?!? 😂

@nicksaraev struggling to get this to work. I imported your JSON scenario. Left everything at default except changed the login for ChatGPT and Airtable. But it's returning an error and nothing is been sent to Airtable. I even named the actual database and columns the same as in the video. Any thoughts? Thanks! UPDATE Had a lot of trouble get this to work for example having to run the scenario manually to kick start the data into air table. Fixed the connection issue. Like that GPT will craft a response based on client request. But still a bit slow at pulling new jobs. Thanks for posting your video.
