It warms the heart to see you letting the angle grinder do the work and not forcing it through Mate. Often times, people don't understand that these tools are meant to be held while THEY do the work instead of man handling them and causing premature death through worn gears and bearings. I'm digging the direction this build is going. It'll be interesting to see what direction you'll go in with the tank. I can honestly see a vintage CB750 Honda tank being an excellent donor to the build. Mix it up a bit and get those perfect lines all sorted out. The 750 tanks have the knee wells and a nice flat bottom to get the linear look from front to back. The only thing would be placement so they clear your bars with the stops you've installed, but I don't think that would be a problem. Keep the rubber side down my Friend! Zip~
Thanks Zip! i honestly am trying my hardest to do things properly! For the tank i may keep it as i do dig the lines but if one comes up that looks right i may go down that route ;)
Spot on Mr Zippo, I can hear when people bear down on grinders, which is well dodgy for thin cutting discs, and removes too much metal when using flap discs/grinding discs-in fact, if someone brings me something to weld with the words "I've cleaned it up for you" I won't touch it now as they have often thinned it out and I burn through.
Love the low-slung, old-school look of the rear with that hoop on it. The wider, smaller diameter rear wheel keeps the same flavour and sets off the twin shocks. This is really shaping up to be an awesome looking project.
Thanks for the shout out Jish, glad your happy with the hoop. looking forward to seeing how it goes.. Thanks again Louise and Shaun Triplehumph ps if you need a custom seat any shape, colour, stitch in leather, suede or vinyl give us call, we'll look after you
YEAH, you taking the rotating tool to the rear end is the real deal. Feels like wart removal with an angle grinder. The new rear loop is wonderful and I love the recessed LED tail light. But best of all is the new rear wheel and wider tire. Your vision is coming to life. Cheers mate and keep going, I can't wait to see more.
Hello Jish, with great interest I follow your videos for a few days. I've also been screwing motorcycles and cars since I was 16 and that's why I think we speak a common language (even if it's not English). This winter is a complete rebuild of a Yamaha XJ 650. Frame, rims, swingarm and dip tubes Paint the powder coating and the rest and replace all screws and nuts. With your videos, you've been so scared of such a big project. Thank you in advance, because now I'm 50 years old and not so firm in the matter. I intend to do it in 6 months. I wish you continued enjoyment of your videos and good time. Yours sincerely Simon Thielscher from Bavaria Germany
Nice to see the parts line up for you. Just a warning on that rear tire. If you’re going to ride it in your damp climate, you might want to rethink the Pirelli. The Route 66 is not a good wet tire.
Jish...I found the comment I thought I posted to your channel over on RacerTV's channel. Silly me!! Here's some valuable information on electrical for you to ponder. Now to address the electrical. It's easy to get your wires crossed and not realize they're crossed when getting things working. Especially when working with all new wiring. Continuity, check, voltage (w/o engine running) check, lights, check, engine runs and lights work (on a less than fully charged battery) check! Success!!! Until the battery is topped off, then the Stator/Alternator and Reg/Rectifier have to do something with the over abundance of electricity with no where to go. Where you've shot your self in the foot is using all the LED lights. They draw a very small percentage of the power the charging system delivers, so the battery charges very quickly and stays charged. As this happens, the factory type Reg/Rectifier can't handle sustained periods of absorbing this increase in power absorption. Result? The Reg/Rec goes bad IN A HURRY!! The solution, albeit more expensive, will save you TONS of headache in the long run. Get a MOSFET!! Problem solved once you make sure you're directing all of the charging through it to the rest of the bike. Seriously...don't skimp here. The Mosfet absorbs a LOT more heat and is designed to NOT fail under the increased voltage dispersal associated with using LED lighting. Many people have abandoned LED lighting for this very reason. Not realizing that simply installing the MOSFET cures the issue. Worth saving up for my Friend! There are numerous well put together articles that explain the differences and why you should use the MOSFET in place of the traditional diode type Reg/Rec. Cheers again my Friend! Zip~
Hey Jish loving this build so far just a word of caution . With the front end conversion and the larger rear wheel you need to measure the rake and trail figure you have now . This has a serious effect on the handling , no good having a cool looking ride if it is not rideable .
Hell yeah, that is awesome bro, looks wayyyyyy better with the bigger tyre and lighter ass end, Thats funny because I'm getting my scrambler hoop made by the same guy. :) Those brown stickers of your logo you sent me seem very good quality
I wonder if the XS series could also swap into the rear hub of the XJ? I’m building a Maxim Midnight Edition and I’m considering going that route with XS1100 wheels 🤔
I didnt think it was smart having a wider wheel on the front than the rear, for the handling of the bike aspect. Glad you are enjoying the videos though!
Hey buddy I think that Yamaha is going to look awesome, sorry I've been quiet and not commenting on your previous vlogs but been crazy busy last few weeks.Peace!🇿🇦
I cant find any xj750 bikes that have that spoke pattern. Are you sure Its not from the xj700 Maxim ? Im currently trying to source a xj700 maxim wheel because I need the spike pattern from that model (same pattern as the one you bought) that’s why your video caught my interest :)
I just checked the listing and indeed it was a XJ700 Maxim! my mistake! Hopefully that clears it up for you and hopefully you can find one for your build :)
Hey Jish. I am following your build and looking at doing an XJ of my own. One thing I have seen on other XJ builds is the wider wheel not aligning with the front. Does the maxim wheel need some machining to get it to fit like the XV wheels?
Glad I found your channel, you put out quality content! I have the opportunity to pick up an XJ650 maxim myself. This would be my first build, and I know absolutely nothing about motorcycles. Looks like I'll be binging your videos for a while. Still unsure on whether I want to wait for a CB or XS to show up instead, have you been able to find parts for your XJ as easily as the 125 build?
Jish u should do chain conversion on rear wheel so can have same wheel like the front and here video for u if interested in beautiful cafe race build like urs ruclips.net/video/9O8d9ER9_QY/видео.html
That radiator is such a cool looking prop! Are you gonna keep the dual shocks in the rear or is it gonna be a monoshock to get the frame rails straight with the hoop? Also, wb ground clearance?
Hey Jish! , Im from Germany and i like to look at your Videos, i'm with you from the first second! But i have one Thing to criticize ... Please Take a modern and wider wheel with an optik like the Front! Peace! G.O.M.
this pos makes me feel so much better about my $400 running and driving maxim. did this thing live in the bottom of the ocean? I live where we salt the hell out of the roads and i have never seen a bike this rusty that hasn't sit outside for 20 years
That would be dope if you would just like clean the whole bike and derust it and sht before you start like choppin stuff off lol and start building on it when it still has mud and sht loool It bothers me so much looool
Whats the point of taking a bike apart thats rusty and will most decently snap bolts just to put back together to then take apart again 😂 You do realise i will be doing a full nut and bolt rebuild on this bike as soon as i have the foundations put in place just like i did with the CB ✌ jusy enjoy the transformation and dont worry about a little rust 😘

Glad you are enjoying the videos Simon :) Good luck with your build!
Thank you very much . Occasionally, there are pictures ;-)
Grab some aggressive off road looking tires to make your wheels look a little bigger as well! Loving the build. Giving me lots of ideas for my 650!
Would be interesting to see some big knobbly tires on this bike and give it more aggressive look.
Delboy did some and it looked immense
I tried to get some but because of the sizing of the wheels there were no options :( i wanted to go down that route
@@jishh Nice one... Would have been a nice overall look.
Maybe a future build mate
Nice to see the parts line up for you.

That rear hoop is actually super sick! Just weld it on and your good to go. Def has got to make the process easier
Thanks man! Next episode it will be welded up ;)
Jish looking forward to it! Great content as always👌🏻

Dont worry i plan on doing that. And i went to a smaller wheel not larger ✌

Beard looking so strong my dude

I wonder if the XS series could also swap into the rear hub of the XJ? I’m building a Maxim Midnight Edition and I’m considering going that route with XS1100 wheels 🤔
That means that the Maxim wheel should fit on a XJ900 Seca too.
Nice work but not my cup of tea convert it to the same as the Front looks better in my opinion great content love the videos bud
I didnt think it was smart having a wider wheel on the front than the rear, for the handling of the bike aspect. Glad you are enjoying the videos though!
Starting to look awesome Jish
Thanks buddy! Lets keep the ball rolling
Definitely mate
Don’t forget I’m still up for buying any excess original parts you don’t want. I’m only in brum.
@@paulevans3156 ill have a whole collection of parts soon! Just making sure there arent any parts i need off them first
Perfect
Looking good. I do like a bit of angle grinder action! 😁👊
It will always make good viewing aha!

Hope all is well dude! Glad you like the direction its going in!
You did a very good job so far!
Thanks buddy!
Nice so far would look super cool with a mono shock back end!
I did think about it but im happy with the current shocks as it would be SO MUCH work to convert 😅
yes i know what you mean i did it to an xj650 back in the early 90,s either way still looking real good !

is it the "diversion" model of yamaha xj650? thanks
by the way, very good videos! GG man
what tires did you end up using for this build? i enjoyed your content btw.. awesome build
I know what you mean on the LED tail light hoop. I’d like to do something different but they are just so clean. I don’t know what else to do.
At the end of the day, we build these bikes for ourselves and thats what matters. Its easy to forget that when building in front of an audience
Jish u should do chain conversion on rear wheel so can have same wheel like the front and here video for u if interested in beautiful cafe race build like urs ruclips.net/video/9O8d9ER9_QY/видео.html
Can you even convert a shaft driven bike to chain?!
Is your new rear wheel offset in the center of the bike?
That radiator is such a cool looking prop! Are you gonna keep the dual shocks in the rear or is it gonna be a monoshock to get the frame rails straight with the hoop? Also, wb ground clearance?
It is! i didn't want to just get rid of it! Keeping it twin shock with this build for simplicity as i feel it still fits the style im going with ;)
Hey Jish! , Im from Germany and i like to look at your Videos, i'm with you from the first second! But i have one Thing to criticize ... Please Take a modern and wider wheel with an optik like the Front! Peace! G.O.M.
Its more work and cost than i need buddy. This is the best option for me personally
Hey man! I want to change the wheels on my XJ650, what are the options or restrictions? Will any wheel fit? (I dont know much, first project)
Hey what size is that hoop? Your link for the ebay ad doesnt work and i need a hoop for my xj650 maxim
Excellent vlog dude
Thanks logs ✌⚡
Where did you get the rear hoop
Looking nicer already and where did u get the rear hoop I would like to get one for my build
Cognito moto makes a hub for spoke wheels that fits that bike
They do indeed! But it cost almost £700 😂 i paid £25 for mine. Im happy with my decision aha
Já estou vendo q ela depois de customizada vai ficar top. 😎🙌✌👍🇧🇷
What are you doing with the 18" rear. I've got a Maxim, we don't see any Secas in the US.
Most likely keeping it for spares if i need them :) If not i will sell it on. I have lots of parts taken off i will most likely be selling
This is Awesome!
Respect!
I lyk your dressing sense❤️

But how many out of the 1000's record their process?
