Having owned a sailboat myself I understand the let down by the engine problems . Your site i believe helps those that want to buy a boat and sail carefree around the world . Boats are not like cars they are complexe pieces of equipment that needs almost continual repairs & maintenence . Please don't let this slow you down .... Flo will soon back on course !

Hang in there guys. One of the things I like about your channel is that you keep moving forward even when things like this keep trying to hold you back.

That is a tough break. In the positive you are running out of things to rebuild.

Bummer 😢 sometimes you guys really don’t get much luck. Hoping things improve in part 2, but guessing by the intro, they probably don’t. Double bummer😢😢

Wow. Going to be hard to trust the boat once you get everything back. I know how that is. You guys have learned how to fix your keel and did that which to me is much harder than rebuilding an engine. So long as there are no holes in the block from pistons escaping, use a breaker bar to see if the engine will rotate. After it cooled down you may still be able to rotate it and if so your rebuild may not be as extensive. The heads may still be good provided nothing came apart and you can rebuild the block.

Wow, am usually a silent viewer, Non Nautical, well i did think such, but found my ancestry. Ancient (for me) the clan I am a small part of were Captains, Ships Hands, and Chandlers.
My back ground, Farming, rebuilding broken equipment etc, Property sold (in my youth) Later gained employment with railways..was hand with a spanner etc.Steam locos and later Diesel Locos.
Am a non sailor, never experienced such, but as a novice I ask why did you not study predicted winds etc...sorry if i am wrong, then you motored for too many hours.
Was engine and it's habitat having regular inspection with crew change overs?
Bugga....do clear some space for this old fella and am able to spin many spanners etc, diagnose, assist with repair etc, and also enjoy a tipple of juice from a glass during R&R.👍
Do gather your thoughts, no rush, and go with that Flow! Bit by bit, then am sure them high seas with become part of your life...Cheers Team.

Admire your perseverance but this serves as good example that you need to be well funded. Really need the budget to be able to replace everything.

I feel so bad for you guys. You're such a wonderful couple. I'm praying for some better luck for you two. I wish I had the money to purchase you a new engine. You're in my prayers, your luck is going to change. Keep up the faith. Good things happen to good people.

Wow what a stroke of bad luck. But maybe it will turn out the engine isn’t ruined. But I know you guys know if it shut down running at full speed and there is no oil then likely it is junk.. And if it didn’t make any noise it probably spun a main bearing. Or gualded a piston, I had a tractor diesel engine spin a main bearing. And the problem was caused by fuel being pumped into the oil from a bad fuel supply pump. It had be re- machined.
There is a chance that it was really low on oil and it is a fuel problem that shut it down. But it should have a history of using oil. Dose it have a auto low oil kill switch? If it ran out of oil then oil low pressure light should have came on. Running out of oil there should have been a warning like 0 oil pressure or a light.
Hope you checked the oil before you cranked up.
And if it was out of oil then it had to be burning it. That can be caused by a bad turbo if it has one.
Otherwise a burned piston but it should have miss fired before and cause a vibration. Not much else can cause it to run out of oil. Except leaks or blowing it out the exhaust. So let us know what you find !

I'm sure you know some of the tricks to check and turn over engine (Crowbar, take injectors out, get cable camera w light for smartphone to look inside piston cyl for damage, add diesel into cylinder to lube). Oil Loss Emergency thought- if rear main seal leakage, put pan/pot underneath to catch leaking oil, put bilge pump in pan with auto switch, hose from pump to oil fill opening on engine. Add new oil. This catches leaking oil and puts back into engine.
