    In this price range I really like the QSP knives, the fit on them is really exceptional (though the fit on the Ganzo knives look good as well). For their value D2 options, I have the spear-point Parrot model, which sells for US$20-25 (and I got for sub-AUS$40, which is extremely good value here in Australia), and their super-popular sheep-foot model the Penguin goes for US$30-35. Well worth looking at in this price range, especially outside the US.

    I have the FH922 in uncoated D2, and I really do think it's a high fun to dollar ratio. I did have to force patina the blade but two days of sitting in vinegar barely darkened it. Really excited they have them in a fully coated version now

      @paranoiia8 Год назад +1

      It will darken to light greyish color but you need to use more powerful acid than vinagre as vinagre most od time have addition of antioxidants that don't go well with metal patina. But before that you need to seriously mate it with sand paper/scotch brite and then clean it with aceton/alcohol before dipping it.
      I managed to put patina on few of my d2 knives and after also dipping them in hot mineral oil i never saw rust on them. It's just that they don't go full dark but they get nice mate color

    My knife philosophy is very simple ; I buy knives that if I break it, lose it, or need to give it to someone, Im not going to sweat it. $500 knives are awesome, but if you drop it out of your pocket or leave it in your pants when you take your clothes to the cleaners... that is going to hurt.
    Ive never batted an eye at losing or snapping the blade on my Sodbuster or BuckLite. And I often gift my pocket carry to someone in need if its a Rough Ryder. Not doing that with my Buck Strider Police issue. And a knife thats in your desk drawer is never of any use when you are in the field.

    Month ago I got 924 and 922.
    924 was a bit hit and miss as blade is a bit light so closing action is not that smooth(on mine at least) carbon fiber end being just g10 with carbon pattern on top, but blade was super sharp and it's still is after all that time and no sharpening, and overall it's just... Comfy to hold. No kidding this knife is feel nice in hand... And for me that is what matters.
    And 922?
    Oh my god this thing is snapy as hell. Smooth as butter. Opening it and closing is pure joy. Also clip make best vibrating sound when you close it it... Its just go click-pinnnnnnnng. Amazing.
    Ganzo also seriously mastered D2 heat treatment. It's super hard like it probably hit 61hrc without an issue.
    But as any d2 it will rust. I left mine 922 in garden after using it whole day and, one night = rust spots. Quick wipe with wd40 and it's gone as it's just surface rust but you need to watch for blade if it's get wet

    Except, ..... You will never be quite satisfied. You should inspect and test the lock on each one. The backlocks are fine. The axis and liner locks usually need hand fitting to be safe. The knife will be heavier usually and the steel mediocre. If you NEED a knife for under $20 (still ???) a Ganzo would do. I have carried the Delica copy for some time, but recently found some replacements. One being a copy of the Gen 1 Delica, which is only second to the gen 3 which was the best.

    That's funny, I've been buying their stuff up on Amazon and aside from their Delica copy that I returned because it's just a horrible knife, these are the only 3 I don't own! LMAO I totally agree with you about the RAT clones being better than the originals. In fact I also returned a RAT 2 because as soon as I opened the box all I thought was "Clearly EVERYONE is insane." and "My Ganzo copy destroys this thing!". Their original designs and Firebird knives are SO detail oriented. My personal and all time favorite FB/Ganzo is the FH81 where they actually carved a design into the G10. Not a grip texture... A DESIGN. That knife is nothing but unconventional beauty from tip to butt and I see it as the bar Ganzo raised which every other budget knife company now has to clear. And let's be honest... There's not a lot of Asian budget knife makers really challenging Ganzo these days. It wouldn't take a lot to raise themselves to that level either but that's when we need to remind ourselves that if these companies wanted to put out TRULY stellar knives, they wouldn't be budget companies. 😂

    I own another one in their D2. I shouldnt take it to work. I like that the model has been tested at 62HRC but of course it chips like crazy. The tip is gone. I simply had to turn a screw and it was the only shiny thing in my pockets. It was like using a spaghetti. Almost any side load on the egde can result in deep chips. It may cut copper or even mild steel but any rotation and twisting will brake it. It rusts in pit fashion. The steel is not homogenous enough IMHO. At least it doesnt roll. I cant stand butter steel. It was the cheapest knife that hard. Next time I'd try 1095 this hard to have something tough around. Does anyone know a brand that has 1095 in tested hardness above 61? It can be a fixed blade. Idk about maxlvl, but while D2 has high potential in terms of edge retention, I've never experienced it. I've had some that's been ok, but still nothing amazing, and those were exceptions. It just seems like playing a heat treat lotto. Without a great heat treat to get that increased edge retention I really don't like the resulting mix of properties. It's not unusable or anything, but 440c seems to be far more tolerant to non-optimal heat treats and thus results in an overall better balanced end product in an ultra budget knife imo.
