@@whatchaneed2day I have been doing keto for 8 months and have lost about 35 lb. my Journey has been pretty slow. But I have lost way more inches. I am starting to see my waist again! Still have some belly and thigh fat to lose. But for the first time ever people are calling me skinny. And from everything I am learning from dr. Boz I will definitely be eating this way for the rest of my life for the health benefits. My dad had cancer my mom had Alzheimer's. Wish I would have known then what I know now.

Hi Dr Bos, Loved the Patrick V story. Great pick. Love the information you provide with “Evidence Based Practice” and everyday language that laymen can understand. Been doing Keto now for a little more then a month with 20+ pounds of fat gone (easy to see), and have been feeling better then ever. 27 years in Nursing, with the last 2 in Interventional Cardiology (Cath Lab) Clinic and before this position was an ED RN (level 1 and 2 Trauma). Prior to Nursing was doing my undergrad work with Med school and Orthopedic Surgeon as the goal (so Blessed I switched). My knowledge base is high in regards to Biochemistry and been a self promoter of the current food guidelines that we teach pt’s. My plate, and others had left me feeling a failure with the inability to ever feel truly full, only stuff like after Thanksgiving Dinner. Now with “Healthy Keto” keeping vege carbs below 20grams and having fats around 75-80% I am able to push away meals, (smallish size) for the first time and combined with Periodic Fasting 16/8 and the “measurable and trackable blood ketone/glucose testing can dial in a healthy fat loss regimen. Thanks again and I’ll keep fighting the Good Fight to softly promote this lifestyle of Keto and retraining the public as it’s an uphill battle in my current position. Need more empirical data to show my 4 Cardiologist’s and train them as well slowly and treading lightly, Ego’s and all. Again Thank you and Dr Eric Burg and Thomas Delauer with Alll the superb U-Tube info. Also Loved your book. ❤️🙏🏼🤙🏼

greetings from Augusta Maine. On keto since April 2018 -- went from 386 to 314 today. Ha1c 5.8 down from 6.4 (still taking 2K metformin). My DrBoz ratios are under 80 as low as 19 on water fasts. My vegetarian internist does not recommend Keto and wants me to go veggie keto. My Dr Boz ratio goes over 100 even with 100 total carbs daily (no grains, no starch, added only 1 small baked sweet potato and 1/2 cup black beans to 2 cups leafy greens). My ketones drop to .4 - .7 and glucose 105- 115. Total calories about 1300. Based on these results, I am going back to 20 grams total carbs -- leafy greens (recommended by my other guru Dr . Eric Westman) When I get to my goal weight 168# I may try veggie keto again. Oh, I'm 79. You are the BEST! Steve

You're so awesome Dr. Boz! I've been eating Keto with intermittent fasting for only one week consistently and I am having steady drops in my blood sugar and have lost significant weight. "Knowledge IS power" and knowing this way of life is what I need to be living gives me the strength ("power") to say, "NO" to all the foods I used to eat, and yes to Keto eating and I-fasting. I want to be healthy and get off of the meds I'm on and be an encouragement to others. Thank you so much!!

I had to laugh when you said that Patrick said Dr. Dan saw his labs and said "What did you do?" When I went on the ketogenic/intermittent fasting lifestyle I was off all my diabetes meds by day 8. Two and half months later I had my Hg A1C drawn and I too had my PCP come running into the exam room and demand "What did you do?" As an RN I thought that I may be in trouble and thought "Oh no, what did I do?" She exclaimed "your A1C is 4.9!!" I told her what I was doing and considered it a lifestyle She said, "Iknew it had to be that, I'm also on the ketogenic lifestyle as are about half our clinic!" She then deemed me diabetes free, as long as I continue what I was doing, and she took diabetes off my record as a current medical problem and changed it to a past medical condition, that was 7 months ago and I'm still going keto strong! I love your podcasts, please keep doing them, as well as your numbers on Instagram. Thank you, Karen from San Carlos, Sonora, Mexico and Edgewood, New Mexico (Snow Birds!)

    • @hjlevitt
      @hjlevitt 5 лет назад +2

Just curious if the clinic you mention is a national group or a group we would recognize. I say this because my internist at a well known national hospital is now up to date on ketosis and a special group in the hospital provides ketosis advice and a program of lectures and coaching.

Karen, what a GREAT testimony. Dr. Boz, awesome to hear stories that are testimonies as well. I to am a type 2 diabetic... Seen change and feel great also... My A1C keeps dropping.. I been doing ketos since Sept. 15 2018 started a few years back A1C was 12-ish stubborn minded as I was, took a while to go down to 8. Something, then four months ago 7.4 then slowly incorporated intermittent fasting then recently 6.6 A1c. Thank you ALL for sharing. God Bless.

My mom encouraged me to read your book as she and her husband are doing the keto diet. He has successfully been on it for 1 1/2 yr. They are both retired and well educated. I am pretty healthy, no medical diagnosis or need for weight loss. I have through the years sought ways to be healthy with eating and have looked for the "feel good" from what I call a nutrition plan. So many people freak out if I use the word diet as I am very fit and don't need to loose any weight. I am 76% through your book and though a "carb addict" have found hope through the people I know who are on the keto diet and also from reading your very well written book. After 48 years of eating lots of carbs and sugars and being taught that fat is bad, it is hard to make the switch; so foreign. The more I read, the more I realize I can't go back as ultimately that would be a death sentence. I am still very new to all of this. I bought my keto dip sticks yesterday and was excited to see a trace in the results, this morning there was a small amount, encouraging. Of course, from my picture above, I am a dog lover and feel that I need to find a way to switch my dogs safely to the keto diet as well. They currently eat "healthy" kibble. The information you provide in your book makes me want the world to have to read it. Thank You again, I will look forward to following you, finishing your book and encouraging others to check you out. Great Work, Thank You for taking the risk and sharing, Tracy

🌸 Thank you!!!! I wish you and your book had been around when I was so desperate to lose weight and improve my health. Thank the lord that there was so many others posting about the ketogenic diet two years ago. I am on my way to being a “beautiful people”, thank you and Patrick for sharing the term. Using the ketogenic diet I have managed to drop nearly 90 pounds, I am off my asthma medicine which was 450+ dollars a month, I am off my acid reflux medicine, and I no longer have a fatty liver or inflammation in my joints. I am following you on Sunday nights and realize I need to start measuring my glucose and my ketones to get the rest of my weight off. I believe the ketogenic diet and this way of life is going to allow me to watch my grandchildren grow up and hopefully see great grandchildren in my future. 🌸 Central Texas

I really you show & tell Patrick's story. I didn't understand everything you said but the end result was amazing and that's important.
Never watched a health video before you but I do watch scrapbooking ones. The person who talks and shows always has an assistant (husband, secretary, friend...) who takes in the questions in the comment and either answers right there if it's not complicated or pushes them towards the main person on video. Also the trick with questions lost in all the comments is that they ask people to start the question comment with three stars (***) so they are found easily. And they repeat that a few times during the video (don't forget, if you want to ask a question, start your comment with 3 stars...).
Anyway, I've watched no less than 5 videos of yours and I'm impressed. I'm in Canada and my doctor is open to anything I want to try. I'm really blessed in that way. He even let my pharmacist show him how to make the formula on my prescription for bio progesterone - I was premenopausing at 35; he wanted Depo-Provera, I wanted natural progesterone; I got it and it worked. He was also okay with IP diet (lost 62 lb.), with Dr. Poon (needed a prescription as it's paid by OHIP, lost about 15 lb.) and now the Keto diet. He sees me every three months to make sure I'm A-Okay. I take 4 times the regular dosage for iron (600 mg/day) otherwise it drops down dangerously and I started taking something for high B/P about six months ago (before Keto), which I didn't have before (it also has water pill in it).
I'm not losing weight much but I think it's because I don't eat enough fat. I've been low fat for so long that even when I use 1 TBSP. of fat I think it's a lot and I have to change my mindset.
Sorry about this long comment, I know you have other things to do, Nicole

Hi Dr. Boz. I’ve been working at your program now for 12 days. It took me 5 days to produce ketones. I’m using a meter vs strips. My glucose is now running below 70 daily and ketones around 1.8 on average. This morning my glucose was 64 and ketones 2.4. I feel ok but wonder if my glucose is to low. I’ve lost 8 pounds in 12 days. It’s almost scary...🙂. I read your book and just was so inspired. I have no serious health issues which I’m grateful for but I know if I don’t lose weight I will eventually. Im 61. Please comment either as a reply or in a video on consistently low glucose while on Keto. Thank you for all that you’re doing to teach others this program. It’s an eye opener for sure. 🤗

I have learned so much from your videos. I was able to break a three-month stall after I started testing blood glucose and ketones and doing intermittent fasting. I also do a longer fast (45 to 60 hours) once a week. I am hoping that my body is healing during the fasting times when I hit 40 or under. I have seriously leaking valves, but my heart seems to be quite strong for the shape it's in (I am totally dependent on my pacemaker). I have increased stamina and that is wonderful. My back is my biggest problem and I am hoping that the Keto way of life will lower the inflammation and allow my back to do some healing. I also have been making my own bone broth and drinking that nearly every day. Thanks for doing the research and sharing it with us.

Hi Dr Boz! Do you have anyone with polycythemia Vera on keto and fasting. My husband was diagnosed with it about 8 years ago.
He has been on hydroxyurea for 6 years. His oncologist has encouraged him once or twice to lose some weight. He has increased his dose due to his weight. I’m praying that he will motivated to try keto and fasting. I started following you on you tube in November. I myself had ovarian cancer and a tumor bigger than a cantaloupe removed on March 1st 2018. They found a nodule in July, I’ve had 2 CT scans and they want to repeat it every 3months. The last one I had was in December and I decided not to have anymore for now. I am on keto and I fasted 72 hours in December and 96 hours in January. I’m doing OMAD and feeling great! Thank you so much for all the work your doing to educate and encourage. I read your book ANYWAY YOU CAN! it is a blessing and so educational. Thank you and may God continue to bless you and grandma Rose!

Excellent presentation. Purchased your book on Kindle today and found it very good. Your Mom is a very lucky lady to have such a tenacious daughter. Noticed some of your viewers mentioned low sound. Other not. I stream my VLOG to my tv via the app on the new Samsung so it is large and I can control the volume. Your views might try Chrome-cast or Apple TV if they have an iPhone.
I have tried your Keto diet coupled with an 18 hour fast and have brought my Blood sugar down from 12.0 last Sunday to 6.0 this morning. I was shocked at the results. I am 74 and have been in the 9.0 range for a year or so. I have followed you recommendations strictly. It was very hard to give up bread and fruit.
On your next open Q & A session could you address a bread substitute and the effect of vitamin D pills. Should I stop taking them
Love your style and presentation. Your patients and viewers are very lucky to have your dedication. Thank you. Trevor from Abbotsford BC, Canada

Dr Boz - love these videos and I’m listening to your book for the 2nd time. Thank you.
I’m a 52yo make in Australia. I’ve lost 50 pounds since August last year on Keto and intermittent fasting (16/8).
My weight loss has hit a plateau so listening intently to the RUclips videos with Jennifer and her husband.
My issue is trying to hit a good number for the Dr Boz ratio. My ketone number is only 0.4 to 0.6 and blood Glucose between 100 to 115 typically first up in the morning.
My question is what more can I do to get these numbers better ? I’m already intermittent fasting and rarely cheat on Keto.

I love this format and your book! You are an inspiration to me and so many. I've been on keto a year-and-a-half. I'm dealing with sciatica issues and I'm going to take dairy out (tomorrow) of my life hoping that will take out extra inflammation and will help get rid of the sciatica pain. Any thoughts on that Dr. Boz? I'm Karen from Illinois. I still can use to lose 20 lbs. I told you last week, when I posted for the 1st time on RUclips and it was YOUR channel, that I need to get glucose and ketone meters.

Hi Dr. Boz! First thank you for all you do and the wonderful information that you share. I have a question. My son is 17 and has decided today to join mom and try a ketogenic diet. I tested his glucose and ketones to determine his baseline. It was in the afternoon, about 6:00pm. His glucose was 97 and ketones 0.4. I was surprised as his relatively high ketones. Do people on standard diets show these levels? Just wondering what a non keto person results would typically be. Thank you!

Great story congrats to Patrick... had a similar story but my (former)Doctor was not impressed. Kudos to Dr. Dan. Been keto for quite awhile, but I believe some foods, that should be ok, are affecting my numbers negatively. You have suggested checking individual foods to see the effect on the individual. Could you suggest a protocol for this? Thanks

    • @patrickv391
      @patrickv391 5 лет назад

Thanks Brad, I have tested some foods by checking my blood glucose before and one 1/2 hour and on hour after eating only the food in question, typically the portion I would have with a meal. It should only raise the blood glucose slightly at most.

Dr Boz, referencing your ratios, I have gotten below 40 and several times under 20 but only through extended fasting. I cannot maintain those numbers. Adhering to a Ketogenic diet I can usually keep my ratio at 80 or slightly below. If trying to help with disease, how often do you need to reach the 40 or 20 ratio’s? Is once every couple of weeks enough through fasting and how long to maintain those ratios. Thanks in advance for answering. Mark from Naples, FL. BTW, loved your book! 😊👍🎉🎉🎉

Dr Boz starts her fasts on Sundays and from what I’ve seen, as I follow her daily, is she sets a ratio goal of some number at 20,30,40 or higher and will continue with her fast until she reaches her goal. She then feeds and continues her week. So, I would speculate that once per week fasting is a good goal for us. I’ve actually started doing 20/4 fasts 2-3 times per week. Sometimes those turn into 30-40 hour fasts simply because I feel so great! Find what works for you. Watch your numbers. Trust TIME to work this out. Remember this is a way of LIFE. Blessings

I began mid September with OMAD (4 hour eating window) & it was Ketogenic. Jumped off into salt/water ZERO calorie fasting for 3 to 12 days (gradual increase). I dropped nearly 70 pounds & off my bp, statin, gerd, & pain, rxs. I feel great. You may have to monitor & half your dosages for a time. You can do this! The eyes of Texas are upon YOU! We are in Jamaica and my fiancé has been treated but the Jamaican public healthcare system. Things have been a disaster. She’s been on multiple medications and insulin. Even on all that stuff she had an 11.1 in November. This is so frustrating. We’ve been on a ketogenic diet for 7 weeks and my fiancé’s glucose is 158. That is down from the 250 she was 3 weeks go but it’s going down so slow. I keep hearing of people getting normal glucose readings in a couple weeks and it’s so frustrating to see the glucose dropping so slowly. I’ll admit her A1c was 11.1 in November so I should accept it to take some time.

On Keto diet, doing great. Having sleeping problems. Take zopiclone and go to bed at 8 or 9 pm. I'm usually awake a 3am, sometimes 1am and can't get back to sleep. What are ways to move away from drug dependence and get better sleep. When i was younger I could easily get 8 hours sleep. From New Brunswick, Canada

Thank you so much for you videos. My wife has been diagnosed with IIH. She is not over weight. 5’3” and 125lbs. Her neurologist has her on some medications with horrible side effects that don’t seem to be getting better. I am wondering if fasting and autobahn could possibly help her condition. If you have the time to reach out to me it would be great to hear from you thank you

I am a 69 yr. old, married, white woman living in Vancouver, BC, Canada. I really appreciate your explanations. Very understandable to a lay person. I am 6 weeks into Ketosis and use an app called Stupid Simple Keto to measure my macros. I am experiencing muscle cramps even though I eat a big salad of spinach/celery/cucumber daily and I take a magnesium supplement 3x/day. I am about to give up. Yes, I’ve lost 11 lbs., for which I am grateful, and I am not experiencing low blood sugar or hunger pains, but the muscle cramps are definitely making me miss my fruits and vegetables. Do you have any suggestions. Am I getting enough minerals?

Dr Boz: I love love love your videos. With so many Drs being ignorant of ketogenic diet and nutrition in general, I'm relegated to Dr. Google until I find a keto-friendly PCP. Even in a large city like mine, that's not easy. I use my current doc for my metformin and lisinopril and to order my blood tests at a cheaper rate than self-testing,
One nerdy nit to pick (I'm a technical editor): the GKI and your "Boz ratio" are the same ratio, based on the same math, just expressed in different units. I know you don't mean to but you sort of give the impression that they are different ideas.
You don't put ":1" at the end of the Boz ratio, so I don't think it's fair to add it (and all the intermediate numbers) to the GKI column of your slide. No wonder your mom was confused. :-) Just give one number for the GKI (like Patrick does in his spreadsheet).
Thanks again for all the free work you do for us!

Super impressed and very, very uplifting and motivating of frankly- fighting for your life. I'm so sad. MY SUGARS WILL NOT DROP. My doc said I can't be t1 after 16 years t2. I found t1.5...LADA. but how will I know? My numbers when fasting were 200 plus. Fasting 16/8 18/6 and 20/4. Even after 24 hours still over 225. My numbers seem to match up with your t1. This is disheartening. I really need a doc that listens, and if only I could get to Durham to see Dr Westman. Thanks for explaining it so well!
