i played the game, and this is my honest review: Firstly, this game defineatly had a lot of passion put into it, and it shows. I could never make a game like that so props to you! I will have to get kinda mean, but this isnt at all an attack against you :) its just so you can learn and improve in the future! The main problem i had with this game were the controls, sonic felt very sluggish, the turning felt awful, and you were basically unable to turn when going at high speeds because his turning is very slow, even when youre going slow. i died a ton of times over going really fast, to the point where i could barely turn, and sonic would just fall off the map. Sonic also has feels very slow and unresponsive when just moving around, which feels even worse due to the animations, where hes slouching down. His acceleration feels very weird, its pretty slow. The spindash is actually good, the only problem i had with it is that you cant change its direction when youre charging it. Another thing you could add was a homing attack like in the later games, because hitting enemies accurately while going fast felt pretty bad. I think a good way to base sonics movement if you ever do a sonic game again would be sonic adventure 1, or the recently released fangame "sonic onset", basically it makes the turning less rough, the camera faster, it has a roll option istead of only the spindash, but also includes the spindash. You can also perform tight turns even when going fast, and you can also change the direction of the spindash while charging it. The controls also dont go well with the level design, i think the level design wasnt bad, the stage was just too short, and i was able to go from the beginning of the stage to the end in 15 seconds using a slope and a spindash. If the sonic from sonic adventure for example was in this stage layout, it would be very nice. The graphics were actually good, i liked the visuals of the game, i just wasnt too fond of the clashing assets with the enemies, because theyre from different games with different artstyles. The motobug was from sonic lost world, while the rest of the enemies were from generations, while the water and skybox were from the original sonic 1, i think a really cool take on this would be if everything was styled with the pixely aesthetic from the water and skybox, it would give it a really nice stylized aesthetic, but the graphics themselves dont look bad at all. The boss was actually pretty good, a way to improve it would be to make the chainsaw ball thing move really fast, and the challenge comes from jumping over it on a tight platform. The camera also felt pretty jank, it was too slow when turning, and very zoomed in on sonic, making him look huge. The special stage was actually really fun, a very creative take on a sonic special stage, and i noticed you could replay it, so maybe you could make seven stages, each getting harder, and add super sonic as a fun unlockable! Overall, this game was actually really good for a first attempt at a sonic game! You got the fundamental idea of it perfectly, the execution just needs to be refined :)

He was either hard to control and too fast or better to control but slower too. In the end, I settled on slower but it'll get tweaked if I ever take this further.
you should have made one ball on top of the checkpoint imo and you could also add the sparkle when rings are collected but other than that its amazing and could pass as a beta for an actual anniversary game.
That looks great! But in the original game, Sonic was actually Classic Sonic. So, switch the Modern Sonic into the Classic Sonic! That will definitely look like the original game!
I'm sure he knows that fact. Maybe he chose the easiest model for him to use? Besides, it's not like he's gonna release it or anything, so the model shouldn't matter.
Maybe you should’ve used the textures from sonic generations for green hill zone rather than using the sprite art for it also sonic runners model moment
seeing a somewhat finished fangame with this would be amazing! the special stages have a lot of potential in my opinion.

Definity a great project! In my opinion, you should add an open world stage on the main menu. (Mainly because I LOVE open world games)

You could use Sonic Blast Especial stage, its bassically the same thing... but you don't shoot rings, you just collect them.
