Thank you Mr. Pierre Thomas for this report. I just cried when you came to the realization that gratitude is what you own to your ancestors. So much atrocity and advantage has been perpetrated in this land. Also so much love, bravery and honor has being shown. I still believe that education will create a venue for better future.
Pierre Thomas is so obviously a decent man. Very disturbing to find what his ancestors went through, but good that he had the strength to take the journey.
7:15pm 8/2/2024 This history hits home for me as a 85 yr old African American woman researching my history. I feel his pain learning what his ancestors endured.
Thank you, Pierre our history, culture, and lineage in our country are specific and unique. It's not one where folks can immigrate into, cosplay into, or pretend to be. I am proud to be an American Descendant of Slavery and what people accomplished not only for ourselves but for all others too.
Jenkins was right. "Slavery was critical to the future of a prosperous America." His words are evidence of the fact that Foundational Black Americans actually built this country. Therefore, it is only right that reparations be given to the descendants of the enslaved. SMH In addition, I was glad to hear Pierre say "Thank you" to his ancestors. I have always proclaimed that I am a PROUD descendant of slaves, while other Black people often act as if they are embarrassed. I always tell my children about how incredible enslaved people were. I want them to have pride as well in our ancestors, the people who built the "Greatest Country on Earth."
That is a difficult journey to go on. I think Mr Thomas has walked in the shoes of his ancestors by being in West Virginia. That's very difficult to do but it is encouraging and inspiring to me to do research of our family . Thank you Pierre Thomas
I am proud of you for going through this journey, it is an absolutely horrifying reality of our history in America and around the world, thank you for having the courage to show us the beauty and the grace that we should be building together moving forward in this country. God bless.❤
I have no words. This breaks my heart for the slaves. I cried watching this. I learned a lot from this short video. Thank you Mr Pierre Thomas and I’m sorry what your family and others endured.
Slaves built other notable structures, including the White House, which many people would not hesitate to visit. Mr. Pierre Thomas may have drawn an intimate familial link to this Jenkins house, which made it harder for him to deal with once he was inside. Hopefully, Pierre Thomas's trip down memory lane will inspire other reluctant people to do the same thing he did: dare to delve far into the past!
WRONG, James Hoban built the White house, yes b were laborers and SL aves but news flash W was ALSO LABORERS AND SL AVES B WEREN'T EVEN HALF OF THE SL AVES AND LABORERS.
Beautiful yet so sad- in the current times we find ourselves, the lack of humanity in how we treat eachother just makes it easier for abuse to continue- we need to band together for a mighty fist!
I'm glad that you did that report... because my whole family history came from becley west Virginia... but I have never had the money to do a slavery history of my family.... I was born there and my family history is from there the armisteads and Edward's and my great, great grandmother was a bane... I'm not sure if that's how you spell it... I'm 60 y.o. and I've always wondered about our slavery in west Virginia 😢😢😭
This was a very good illustration of how emotions in an individual that comes from my background that suffered, and now have basically succeeded because of the American dream. We have to remember that because of your race or your religion doesn’t make you bad. People are bad because they are that way for themselves, you have choices in his world. We should never forget the people that do not have choices. Starting in our own country, I thank you for sharing your emotions again. My family came from Italy and the stories that I heard it was very hard for them because of other nationalities, they were already here, so I’m saying to us merciful because we never know who can be the one on the bottom. May God love us all my opinion.
Painful just going back 300 hundred years, seeing the start of the Africans treatment in North America, however dwelling there is not only tormenting but also incomplete which doesn't give full truth and understanding. Keep going back as far as possible, even more truths may shock or surprise you. Grace and peace to all 🙏🏾
I have always known my family's history in slavery. My family came out of slavery in 1863 and the knowledge was passed down by those who survived into the 21st Century.
Slavery was a common practice for 1,000's of years. It's unfortunate that in the early years of the American people followed that practice with bringing the African people into slavery. But it is/was the way people thought/knew. People back then didn't see this as being cruel and unusual punishment of another human being. Unfortunately! The struggle that African/American people endured after President Lincoln ended slavery. It took way to long for the Black people in this Country to be respected and unfortunately, this comes from my era of time. I can't apologize for my upbringing because of the way things were in the late 1950's but I can be a better American by respecting all human beings that support a better America. 5:53
American Slavery was MUCH DIFFERENT THAN OTHER SLAVE SYSTEMS. OTHER SYSTEMS ALLOWED A WAY OUT. Not CHATTEL SLAVERY, YOU WERE BORN INTO SLAVERY AND DIED NO WAY OUT.
My grandparents were born on plantations. James B. Carpenter in 1887 in Richmond, VA, and Ella Mckinley in 1899 in Hickory Grove, NC. I grew up with my grandparents both of whom would share stories every now and then. I now live in the South and it's hard to see the Confederate flag hanging on roads and Highways. There is a street called " Mamie Black " I pass going to work. I just want to tear down the sign. But as of late, I've found peace in the words of the Bible which assures me that redemption and restitution are promised to those who were scattered to the four corners of the Earth. And Justice will be served because the saints in heaven ask! How long Lord before you avenge the blood of your people. The answer you'll find in the pages in the Book of Revelation. Soon and very soon, we are going to see the King. And the day of our Lord as he will bathe his sword in, and his garments will be stained while treading the winepress. No words could soothe the soul of injustice as when Judgement is handed down by the One who has written the names of his in the Book of Life. And every tear will be wiped away. 8/13/24
I can look at this very easy because I have seen the slave movies, I have emished my self into Black History and the history of the United States and I have understanding of my ancestors, there were great slave revolts they don't talk about, their were people that had skills, they don't talk about. The slaves were not bought here just because needed labor, they had skills, even their language is in our english language, our foods are foods that are american. We invented so much, we were the one's who knew about enoculation to fight against disease. We were breaded and treated like their pets, their children, we experienced so much, and for anyone in this country that says we did not build this country don't know what they are talking about, this is why we need to have African American Studies in school, so our children would have a better concept of who they are. Reparations now
This so important to me im 56 today my father had me at age 60 my mom was 30 years his junior my dad was born in 1910 died in 2006 his father my grandfather was born in 1881 and have a ww1 draft registration card at a time when Native Americans and African Americans were not required to serve in America armed forces ✊
Hmmm no disrespect, sir, but the math ain’t mathing. If he was born in 1910, that would put him 60, in the year 1970. If he was 60 in 1970, you would be 54 this year.
Pierre, I would like to invite you to watch Dane Calloways videos on RUclips . If you're not already familiar with his lengthy content. Very informative and factual info.. He has much info to share on this particular topic. And has been sharing for many, many years now. I myself am building and growing my Ancestral Family tree. Since starting in 2006 and just recently started adding new info. It's truly awesome to see your heritage come to life. Another piece of info I wanna share. Everyone whom haveth a JOB. Whom worketh to survive is considered a slave! Being a slave in reality, knoweth no race! ✌️ and power 2 you and your fam.
Happy you said this! ❤ Dane is a good place to start. They'll understand once they do their family trees. I watched Dane for years, but needed to understand how others played into it. IM BLOWN AWAY, and I can go beyond the 1300s for some of my ancestors, and I have new cousins I found. Stay safe and keep learning, fam 💪🏾 ❤
@lisarobinson9788 Have you checked out Kurimeo? It's like the second level. I found out about the French who made up Louisiana "Creoles." I also found MANY tribes in my family, but I had to see what was going on with a few other family lines. My entire mind was blown ALL OVER AGAIN. LOL
@MsLhuntMartinez79 yes I've seen them. I used to be sub to his channel becuz of his content. But I just recently unsub. I really don't care to say why on this here forum. ✌️ out...
I am from WV with family in Huntington. I am also surprised to learn slaves were in WV. During my school days, we were taught WV history that included the fact that that area of VA broke away to become WVA because VA was so entrenched in the southern confederacy (believing in slavery). I have made that known to ppl I’ve come across in my adult life who do/did not know the difference btwn VA and WVA. It’s never too late to learn something new!
Great legacy Mr. Pierre Thomas. Thanks for the important history lesson. We deserve Reparation from all our ancestors pain and American Genocide. I would love to do the painful 10 millions names project. I am currently on Ancestry. We need to value one another in America.😢💔😭🤬😡
It must feel really profoundly deep to be able to walk on the grounds your ancestors once walked & slaved on. I wish i could get mine this detailed. I was hoping to see the graveyard & whether it even had been marked.
Build your family tree. I used Ancestry so that I could have access to more documents and my living DNA matches. I had to figure out who my grandma's biological father was. She was the middle child, but was the only one sent to live with her aunt. I've found out really cool info, too.
@MsLhuntMartinez79 I know this may sound crazy...but my 1st cousin has & traced us to Fredrick Douglass......but he was 1 of many of thousands in the family that have a story to tell that connects to me. I don't want to here about the 1 story of someone famous....I want to hear the chronicles of the daily life of my past love ones. Not just who I'm connected to but who where when how etc. If I hadn't learned about Fredrick Douglass then I'd be almost satisfied...but until you can run your roots to a specific point of creation....I'm not satisfied. No argument here....just a person who feels they need to know more. I'd love to run my blood all the way back to someone in the original tribes of Israel or Nubia!
@uweaklink I definitely believe you're related to Fredrick Douglas! ❤️ This reply is long, but it's because I really want you to find your true history and not what some strangers said you are. 💪🏾 We're related to Muhammad Ali (Greathouse family- Kentucky), maybe Beyonce, too, but from Lacy/Lacey family - New Iberia, Louisiana. Also related to 4 US Presidents (Both President Adams, President Fillmore, and President Taft. Also related to Abraham Lincoln's wife Mary Todd (Shelton line), and many others. Our history is far beyond US slavery. I use to get caught up in all the Indian tribes in my family because I never knew (makes up a large portion), but what was the most shocking was that my family had no African ancestry. I found many slave records/indentured servants. I have ship logs and even work contracts along with living relatives from these lines, too! Everone from Europe wasn't "White". I have a few cousins in England and France today who are though lol. Not a 1 in Africa. It's no dig to Africa. It's just true. I went in looking for African ancestors. So of course we share DNA with people along the West Coast of Africa. They took us FROM the US East coast, Canada, and the Caribbean Islands TO Africa. They *CREATED Liberia in the 1800s. They needed English Loyalists to hold down the Colony. THEY PEOPLED THE AREAS. Look up England's Loyalists (late 1700s). I was never taught that slaves were paid either! Some Irish and Scottish put their families up for indentured work because they were starving and had no prospects. They'd offer up their entire family's service (even little kids) as payment for the trip to the Colonies, for housing, food, and clothes. Or they had false petty crimes slapped on them because of their religion, they were jailed, then sentenced to serve time on plantations in the Colonies, so stripped from their country. Irish, Italians, and Scottish were only recently accepted as "White". They were still being hxnged in the late 1800s in the South. Read: www.osdia.org/commission-for-social-justice/1891-new-orleans-project/#:~:text=On%20March%2014%2C%201891%2C%2011,and%20then%20an%20international%20scandal. I have an enslaved ancestor who speaks about her time on a plantation. It did not fit what we were taught. I even started thinking that she was just speaking out of ignorance. NO! I was ignorant. SMH I literally believed everything in school. You can look up her name and slave Narratives. It should come up. **** My 3rd great grandma was a part of the Slave Narratives 'Project Gutenberg' 1936-1938. Her name was Ellen Polk (186?-1947) in Gonzales, Texas. She said it was the best time of her life. She describes why. They were employees just like we are today. Larger plantations had mandatory uniforms made by the slaves. Today after you're hired, you sign all the onboarding paperwork/ employment packets. That's what the contracts were. They ranged from a few years to about 12 years. The issue was that when our people upheld their end of the deal, the landowner would say, "Well, now you owe more because you wore down my tools and my animals. Gotta add a few years." Or if the crop failed, they still had to pay. So people started breaking contracts by running away. *** You can also read up on my 5th ggp Nathaniel Jackson (1798) and Matilda Jackson (1801) in Hidalgo, Texas. The Jackson Ranch and Cemetery in Hidalgo, Texas. Grandpa Nathaniel was "White" and Grandma Tilda was "Colored". Nathaniel Jackson was a slave owner. He freed all his slaves in Alabama and came to South Texas with his ex-slave now "wife" Matilda, 3 covered wagons, and a host of ex slaves and his "mixed" family. He was a part of the Underground Railroad leading to Mexico. ❤️ The further back I got, I found out that it went back to religious wars. The US started the BLACK/WHITE crap. It was orignally about Nationality or Religion. Majority of "slaves" were Prisoners of War - from different wars not just of the civil war. Indian tribes had slavery in place, but they made the slave a member of the tribe after a while. Most of their slaves were from other Indian tribes. The European slaves were shipped to the Colonies from Ireland, Scotland, a some English. THAT BLEW MY MIND! Indenture was slavery. Check out: Dobson, David. (1983) Directory of Scots Banished to American Plantations. 1650-1775. My maternal side is from South Louisiana. Those "Creoles/Cajuns" were a mixture of Indians and French- speakers from CANADA, so some were French from France or Dutch (from Netherlands). A family last name from that line is Henry. But the real last name is 'Henry de Faveaux'. We had people who owned slaves, too. I have an ancestor who owned slaves and bought his wife out of slavery. Some of the French were Huguenots from France. They were forced here running from religious prosecution. My 11th ggf Robert Brassieur/Brashear II was a French Huguenot). I say all of this because we really need to learn the truth. Many Indian tribes were all up and down the East Coast with large saturations throughout Canada/New York/ Virginia/Carolinas/Georgia/Florida/Louisiana/Texas although they were throughout the Americas including the Caribbean Islands. But I'm saying all this to let you know that YOUR own family history is far more vast than you believe. Keep looking and don't be afraid to honor All of your ancestors. It's a bit nonsensical not to. Them me what you think. ❤️ from South Texas
@MsLhuntMartinez79 ❤️I appreciate the links & info. 1 of the things I used to do was substitute teach... and my favorite subject to teach was history. That was when I realized how much they seemed to go out their way to misinform. So I mixed it with theology now. I love finding out true history... even the history of your family is interesting to me. 1 thing I learned from the kids was... Everyone has a story(life/family) to tell. Most are more interesting or fascinating than a person would think.
to care about one's own ancestors all the time is already unusual . one man can have thousands of ancestors and yet these black people only care about these specific few ancestors who were shipped to america . that's why i found their behavior against normal human behavior
Dont forget to takk about the black skave owners and the native American slave owners. Dont foget to report on who actually kidnapped them and who sold them. And lets not forget that slavery continues today abd who and where its going on.
What about 1619, where are the records that tells you where those Afrucans came from and what tribes, but we left with only being able to go back to our great great great parents, and for some they can't go back that far, then you have today's immigrants looking down on my ppl because they fled their countries and came here and instead of learning that there was a time when we would have fled america to go anywhere in the world other than America, and they are taught that we Americans that are black is tge readon for what's wrong with America today not realizing they fled their countries for the mistreatment of their ancestors and look down on us as though we don't have a right to be in America and no one wants to talk about the horrible abuse that we went through, instead of honoring us for the fight blood and death our ancestors endured and made it possible for them to have rights coming to America
I am sick of hearing about their sl aver y and ignoring ALL sla very and pretending evil deeds were only done by YT while ignoring the evil deeds done by bla🔑.
Because many of the stations that you watch are democratic party run they only want to hear what they want to hear is very true just like when Pierre to see his family history slavery was ran by Democratic party in the South just like the KKK light of the news on ABC NBC CBS is all run by Democratic party just like CNN news it's only their perspective and power to run this country and he want more power to implement it to control us that's why Donald Trump doesn't like it. I hope that answers your question

Gen Jenkins was a DEMOCRAT. They have always been for evil. Always will. Moving story for us all to know!
Education, will also erase Racism! To ✅️
She said some of his "legacy" was brutal as though he left a legacy to be revered when he was a monster equal to Hitler

That is a difficult journey to go on. I think Mr Thomas has walked in the shoes of his ancestors by being in West Virginia. That's very difficult to do but it is encouraging and inspiring to me to do research of our family . Thank you Pierre Thomas
Pierre Thomas is one of the Best Americans.
I so deeply wish that no enslavement had ever occurred anywhere among humans globally.
Excellent report and thank you for sharing a bit of yourself with this intimate piece.

Pierre, continue your wonderful journalism career as you remain the humble gentleman I met 40 years ago in Prince William Co, VA.

Read:

The further back I got, I found out that it went back to religious wars.
Check out:
Dobson, David.
@uweaklink So true! Much Love. Tell me if you find info on your family ❤️
Which plantation was Mr. Pierre Thomas’s family enslaved?

What is Jenkins…ethnic background?

to care about one's own ancestors all the time is already unusual . one man can have thousands of ancestors and yet these black people only care about these specific few ancestors who were shipped to america . that's why i found their behavior against normal human behavior
Who said they cared "all the time"?. You need to go take a shower & decongest your uncivilized brain.
That made no sense whatsoever.
@@ericsniper9843 makes no sense to stupld animal like you
@@ericsniper9843…. He’s saying why pass over thousands of ancestry to concentrate on the few.
🤲
Why he visits there ,when he wants to forget ,then turn around and tear down statues monument oximoron

Hello, I think its Africa
Dont forget to takk about the black skave owners and the native American slave owners. Dont foget to report on who actually kidnapped them and who sold them. And lets not forget that slavery continues today abd who and where its going on.
Criminals, since the 1600's
I love the dislikeness he had
The history they want to cover up. Black jobs ☹SMH 😢

Ah, Karen.
Why Trump doesn’t like ABC.
