Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in Heaven give good gifts to those who ask Him! This video brought that to mind. I know not everyone is going to appreciate that but the interaction of a loving grandparent and their grandchild stirs my heart. Little lives always give us the promise of hope and happiness. It is a comfort (not ashamed to say it) that there is a God in Heaven who looks at us much the same way. Hope some other people will find that comforting and give you strength also.

My own faith teaches that morality is written into the hearts (call it your conscience if that helps) of all human beings. We all have to grapple with moral choices whether you believe in God or not. As far as children go, I’m not sure why not ‘having’ them is an answer. Children are the most abused and disrespected identifiable group in the world. They are aborted, abandoned, sexually exploited, emotionally attacked, commercially exploited, manipulated, and disregarded. Most of the adults with issues of depression, low self esteem, significant character defects, phobias, mental health issues, etc can trace these back to childhood traumas and abuse. There are plenty of children who can be adopted and taken into a caring and loving home and the world of good it would do could not be calculated. IMO we are a very selfish and unloving bunch, religious or irreligious. My faith does not teach me that religious people are better than non religious people but something quite different. Christianity is where morally bankrupt people go for help (salvation). There is not a single genuine Christ follower who is not well aware of their sin and need for redemption. Christ said, “ It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” For us who believe, without a God who made us in His image, we are just biological machines and would be incapable of moral actions, rationality, or even have a self/identity. I do not have enough faith to be an atheist although I can understand why it is an attractive choice. I too have fears but my fears are assuaged by a good God who loved the world so much that He would offer up His only begotten son to die fo the sins of the world. The only thing that is hard for me to believe is that any good God would die for a world and people as disgusting as this world and me. I wish you the best.
