as somebody who works in the emergency room and literally helps intubate patients following STEMIs and cardiac arrests, his “vitals” are not normal. He’s been intubated to protect his airway and mechanically assist him to breathe, he is in critical condition. Pulses can be lost very quickly in this sort of scenario, I’ve literally watched the same patient code (pulseless) MULTIPLE times within an hour.
I’m not saying this to be negative by the way, just pointing out that this is a very fragile and critical situation.
Couple things going In his favor:
He’s 24, CPR was started immediately and that is HUGE for survival, pulses came back quickly, and I would assume otherwise healthy.
It’s really sad to see moments like this, I see it all too often at work, but I can assure you those healthcare workers in the ER are the best of the best.
This is what we do. He is in good hands, I wish the young man well.
Was the CPR administered within four minutes? I was not watching the game, but nine minutes seems like an inordinately long time to give someone CPR.
What are some of the negative effects he might or could have given his situation like what can we speculate?
We have been giving the healthcare workers flowers for years but still not enough to show our gratitude for everything they do

This happened to Danish soccer player who had a heart attack on the field but has made an amazing comeback and is playing at top level again. I hope the same story happens to Hamlin. My prayers are for him and his family at this time

He's on a respirator. I don't think the prognosis is good.
2 minutes without oxygen can cause Brain Damage
The " normal " person has about six minutes of oxygen in our blood !!
my wife had a similar situation. she was in cardiac arrest for 5+ minutes. they are sedated and put on a ventilator. thats standard. they will remove the sedation, and if he wakes up, looks around, he's ok.
anything past about 5 minutes is on the brink of brain damage. but they were performing CPR to keep his blood pumping and oxygenated nearly the entire time. i believe he will be ok.
A very dangerous game its for real. May we all join together and pray for support and complete recovery.

What scares me the most is that fact that I had a couple of heart attacks and flatlined on the "Cath Lab" table at the end of September of this year (ended up with 5 total stints). This hits incredibly hard for me cause I can imagine what is going on with Hamlin's family and I can imagine what is going on through Hamlin's mind, if they have him conscious, the utter fear, confusion, the flood of emotions. My thoughts are with him and his family and the only advice I can give fans, GIVE HIM AND HIS FAMILY SPACE. hold off on sending cards, DO NOT show up at the hospital or their home to wish him well. Right now just keep him in your thoughts and prayers and let him and his family deal with this. This is a VERY nerve wracking time for him and his family, please Please PLEASE respect that. Get well soon Hamlin and I truly hope this wont end your career, you are much too young to be dealing with this and you still got your whole life in front of you. Speedy Recovery!!! Just remember that physical recovery is only 10% of it, the other 90% is mental on a whole lot of different levels. My only advice to him and his family for dealing with this is try as hard as you can to have as positive of an attitude you can. It really helped me and mine deal with the fear of the situation, I really hope it helps you and yours.

As a Tennessee native my heart and prayers go to his teammates on both sides coaching staff medical personnel his precious momma who was there his friends and family back in his home state. Seeing the players break and speechless just shows how it effected everyone. Games can be rescheduled but a life can't be replaced. Prayers for #3

Best take I ever heard from Stephen A. Really hoping for the best for Hamlin and his family and my home town. We've been through a lot with the recent deaths in the snow as well. We're already hurting. I hope this man recovers and regains his health and can be with his family soon.

Only seen something like this a couple times and it was in soccer. I'm glad they got medical attention to him immediately, because those soccer players passed away, and they didn't get the immediate medical attention. Really want this kid to pull through, even if he never plays the game again
True, it happens far too often.
Danish soccer player Christian Erickson had that happen to him over a year ago, he collapsed during a play and was rushed to the local medical center. Thankfully he survived. I believe its more a matter of how things are changing today of how we see player's well being and safety

I'm 40 and have watched the NFL for at least 30 years. We take for granted how physically hard-working and punishing the football job is. Broken bones, pain, surgeries, etc. Many of the guys have life lasting effects from the sport. Unfortunately this looks like a 1 out of a million freak injury/accident.

1 in a million ..... from a collision on the football field? I highly doubt it. The NFL has been around for over 75 years, there have been far worse collisions than that tackle. Go back and watch games from the early 80's where Defensive Backs were literally laying people out or blindsiding the QB into the ground.....google Joe Montana injury against the Giants. The game today is FAR less violent than it has ever been. What makes this more scary is that the play looked so routine. There was nothing that could have been done.
When collapsed and his arms fell to his side, I knew it was cardiac arrest. I pray that he fully recovers.

@@ryancoo3968His arms did tense up and go into the fencing response as trainers had just gotten to his sides. But that was due to the cardiac arrest.

Happened in Euro last year with Christian Erikson, also happened some 20 years ago when Marc-Vivien Foé collapsed and died during a Confederation Cup game. Unfortunately sometimes even best of doctors and medicine can't detect somethings.

As a soccer fan in addition to football, this unfortunately reminds me of what happened to Christian Eriksen at the Euros last summer. Like with that, it was absolutely scary to see this in real time & hope Damar Hamlin can fully recover from this.

The Bills suffered a similar critical injury on a televised night game earlier this season. That presumably would have put them on alert, not wasting a single second in restoring breathing and a pulse to any victim in shock. Calling the game off should put all sports on notice. Though less likely, a similar injury could happen in an NBA game--a running player's shoulder slamming into the chest of a defender.

This is something as a fan of the game that you never want to see happen our prayers are for Damar, Hamlin Family and Players. This is tough and NFL did the right thing postponing the game because this is an extremely emotional moment for everyone close to Hamlin. Anytime you work with someone over years they become part of your family and work family and these things are tough make it through because they are loved by so many people.
