i have not matched up with 1500 polish at all, as lane shine is my best friend. after i assess the ball reaction oob, i am 100% willing to change surface to fine-tune things.
I usually throw any equipment with the box finish and if I like it how it is out of box I typically leave it, but if I don’t like it I always change surfaces because any ball deserves a chance to prove itself. I also like to resurface just to play with ball motion and experiment with each ball and how it reacts.
When I get a new ball, I bowl every shot for six games with that ball, and experiment with different speeds, lane positions and angles, and hand positions. If the ball is not usable with the factory finish, I will change whichever direction it needs to go. Then, after 10-15 games, even if the ball was great at factory finish, I have to pick a finish that I think will be best - something I can reproduce whenever I do a minor resurfacing. Then I tweak that over the life of the ball, depending upon the lane conditions, and any changes I make in my form. For instance, I love the 900 Global Aspect. It's basically a Zen solid, just released during Covid. Ok, it has a slightly later-reacting core, but that's why I like it. At box finish, 3000 grit, I absolutely cannot find a speed, hand position, or lane position to play with it, and it doesn't give a continuous reaction through the pocket, resulting in poor pin carry, and very minimal downlane miss area. So I tested and found that 4000 grit followed by polish makes the finish and the overall ball roll shape absolutely my favorite. I have thrown it literally 75 games more than my second most favorite ball, on our THS.
My home alley is a higher friction house and pearls have always matched up better on those lanes for my game. I personally like the polish on balls and never really needed to scuff the surfaces. Even at different houses for tournaments over the years, I usually just leave everything out of box and work with it. I definitely understand the need for surface changes on the pro tour though.
I always throw the ball first before I go and change the surface of it, just to get an idea of either “hey I like it how it is” or “I want this to pick up a bit sooner or later”
I will take sandpaper to shiny balls on the spinner I have at home and I’ll shine up dull balls too. You can always take them back to what they were. 👍🏻
It’s weird to finally heard the Canadian in him in this video. Lols I have Canadian Cousins and I guess I didn’t pay attention but I was all like, Oh yeah they are in Canada 🍁
I have a lot of hand and don’t need the shiny because it comes off the friction way to sharp so I usually take it to 3000 right out the box to even it out a little as a benchmark to test it.
Mitch, you have such a killer release. I normally throw any new equipment first before making any cover adjustments. Chances are if it comes shiny, I will eventually knock the shiny off of it because most balls at 4k fit my game better than shiny but I usually need to see what the ball is going to do first before making that decision.
I really try to keep the ball at the manufacturer's surface, as I figure they made it for a specific intention. But after maybe 2-3 weeks of it's not doing what I think it should be doing, I'll mess around with the surface

I constantly change the surface of my balls until I get the reaction that fits my game. I am tired or doing it by hand, so I just purchased my first ball spinner.
Change every ball surface out of the box even if it is to mimic what the factory did. Surface will change over a few games anyway and too hard to truly replicate what the factory put on it so change to a surface that you know you an control.
ARE YOU WILLING TO SAND A BOX FINISH SHINY BALL?
Me personally no. Shiny finishes tend to work for me really well
I'll throw it first to see how it reacts to my game and then i will tweek it until i get the ball reaction that i like to see ... hope this helps
just got the hyped solid and threw it for a game and yes definitely hitting it with 2k or 1k

I'll try the box finish. If I like what I see, I don't change it. If I don't I use an abralon, etc......
Such a smooth ball motion and release. I get jealous every time I see Mitch. Good thing my lions mane is longer and more luxurious lol
His release is the most beautiful on tour imo!
I think it's him and Kris Prather that are the best 🤟
100% agree! I could watch it all day.
Hi Mitch , I like to hit it with a used 500 or 1000 pad to slow down the response down lane . It will eventually lane shine itself back anyway

Mitch’s black widow ghost review sold me 💯 on that ball & tbh I think he’s done it again!
Yep, and the pin down layout too for me.

The solid hooks later than the hybrid. Good job EBI.
Kris Prather says for him most balls need to crack the cover with True Cut 2000!! Prather would know knocks off that factory shine!!
For Shiny stuff I never throw OOB Surface. I usually take it down to 500 then go up through the grits back to 4000 it takes away the over under.

I cannot emphesize this enough, Mitch has the softest touch on his release, and I love it
Mitch and Prather both have an insanely soft touch.
Changing the surface might be dependent on your natural ball speed and the pattern you're on.

I usually just keep the shine on it

I usually leave the out of box finish on the ball and will try knocking off the polish if I don't like the reaction I'm getting.
If it’s a stronger pearl I will hit it with 2000 pad to have it pick up a little earlier and not be so violent off the spot.

JR~ woohoo~ whaat a excellent !take care.
Hybrid and Solid are Equally Good!
Hi I have a reality Zen Zen Nova in the videos I've been punished I'm thinking about should I Polish my Nova or no

2000 abralon turned this ball into a beast for me. its much more predictable and i love it
Yo I think I fixed my coaching email thing 😂 just let me know what else yall need.
George kittle's bowling cousin.
Mitch's hair is long af now sheesh
NO!! Shine everything!!
Yes remove some of the shine
Thumbnail and title really just is so cringe
The only EBI ball that is pba worthy is the 🟣 Hammer
