If you wanted you can bolt a ms390 cylinder up to a ms290. Same crank, same clamshell. The ms390 is a big bore 290. Great video, stay warm and have a great week.
I’m 77 and the 290 just about as heavy as I want to work with. I have reached the point that I go for the lightest tool that will do the job. I’m usually cutting red oak and getting more power from my 290 sure would help. Hope to see that one soon. Thanks your work putting this content together.
I'd look into picking up an stihl 026 to replace the 290. They are WAY lighter. Like 2lb or better, and they make close to the same HP and torque but run a good bit higher in the rpm range. In most firewood sized wood the 026 would be at least as fast or faster than a 290 and be more enjoyable the whole time.

I picked up a ms290 a couple yrs ago. It’s had the muffler mod done to it and the carb adjusted. I run a 20” bar full skip full chisel square ground chain. 290 is a firewood saw. Put an 039 cylinder on it, an 046 carb, open up the exhaust a bit, and it's ok. It's still not an 044. The only way I can think of to bump the compression is a pop-up piston.
I am interested in the 61. Is it basically the older 266
Bamboo handle is it Laminated? The bamboo is hollow around here. Sounds like it would be a great handle.
Laminated!
@@theironhorse6600 Thanks
Hi have one good saw.
How are you doing brother I hope you get well soon, listen my father has tachycardia he never had it until he got the Covid vaccine. They linked it back to that. Anyway be blessed get healthy
That 290, 029S and 039 are all on the same chassis and all take the 039/390 clamshell cylinder. You can get pop up pistons for those 039/390's. Lotta guys start with those cheaper homeowner saws and do those Builds.
If you're looking for a little saw you should see if you can't work out a deal with Charles Briscoe for one of his 4910's
Harvey, that 290 may be a nice keeper for cutting away at that wood pile. It’s lighter and will be easier for you, that age thing kinda sucks sometimes.
are they even making jonsered any more?
Hey !! What ever happened with the wild thing project?
I've got a 61 and a 268 both on my radar if I get some more play money the question is which one would be more fun to build, cause truthfully I don't NEED either, but let's be honest we do this because it's fun not because we NEED to
The need is great indeed!
Let's see a 49mm piston and bore go in the Ms 290 or the 029 super. I've been wanting to do it to one of my 290's. From 56ccs to 64.1.
Idk why but a 1989 husky 61 with a 272 top end is in my top 3 saws I gotta have one day lol (something about that 300 sticker) ....lol and if I can ever find the matching 288 up here lol 😆 😂 🤣
I’ve got a few conversions myself … The 272xp top end makes for a nice runner fo sure !
Have you thought about putting a ms 390 piston and cylinder on it. Little more power
Harvey Have you ever ported a Husqvarna Model 51?
I have a 029 super, friend has a 290 and my 029 out pulls it by a noticeable amount
So , now that we are getting older, our bodies want a 10 Lb saw with about 7 hp . For a long bar if desired .

My 009 runs good aswell

The 009L is 40.8 cc 2.49 cubic inch 2.0 hp
Ohhhhh I want o see that truck go. Why foot breaking not Trans brake?
Cullen has never drag raced before! I want him to foot brake for a while! However when we put the transmission in it will have a transbrake! When he gets consistent then he gets a button!
