So when Leon becomes the worlds foremost marine biologist and I am an old man I will still remember where it all started! Good job involving the kids. I used to rock my daughter in front of my old 55 back in 2004 and the first thing she got when she moved out last summer was a 20 gallon reef tank. And she wanted all my corals to do what dad does! I have never been more proud of her. 6 months later she has 2 tanks so she got the bug for sure.
Love it and congrats on raising a great [reef loving] kid! I’m hoping to not force the whole fish tank hobby onto my son and just let it develop naturally… thankfully Leon seems to be very keen to claim everything in the tanks as his, so I think we’re on a good path. 😂
@@bigbowlowrong4694 wahahaha! I actually wish that I have time for another planted tank again.. there's always something to do and plants to prune in a planted tank!

U can tell the male buy the jaw , more square and larger , I had an engineer goby bigger than that moons back , ended up rejoining in my cousins tank which he made it centre piece fish , he got another and they were like eels coming out of the rockwork , right tank for the right fish
Thanks for the ID 👍 And yeah the Engineer goby could pass for an eel, would be great for a tank lookin for a smaller bio load or the demand of an eel. Only issue I could think of is supposedly they like to reshape the sand bed often? 😭

I would like to hear all about your goni’s what you feed them supplements and and secrets position flow lighting and are you going to frag them eventually
In the 90s we had so few anemones to have clowns breed in. Pacific pink was best LOL! You could get blue ring octopus then sometimes and lots of pygmy octo's.
you kinda never find an end do you? you know that the healthiest tank is one which you leave alone right. you should really give it a break for a couple of months so everything can settle.
I had to give up my 125 - 6 footer about 11 years ago when I got married and the un-written rule back then was not to have a tang in nothing less then a 6 foot long tank for their health.. Have things changed?
I used a betta cup with the hole in the center of the lid as a bristleworm trap. Worked AMAZING. Just threw some bait in it, left it overnight and caught a ton of them.
The 17G would be perfect to breed the cardinal if not for the blenny perhaps. But if it has medium to high nutrient levels that could be why the eggs are going bad inside the males mouth
Could you do a video talking about your anthias, what you feed them how often, and care you give. I have tried them one in the past and failed, would love to try again but would like some good tips on how to be successful with them
Thanks James! I am using the AB+ as a template and dialed in more white, since I have two AliE bar on either side that are mostly blue. I have the light on from 9am - 4pm, with 30 mins ramp up and ramp down
I remember I found a 12" worm that was blue and yellow. I was a new reefer at the time, and I snagged it with a coat hanger. I remember flinging it on the floor while my two granddaughters screamed. I had to use red lighting to get it..
Would you ever sell a frag of your gorgonian? I would mail you a shipping box with label and venmo you the money for the frag. I don't have any decent coral stores in my area. If it is not possible I totally understand.
Just so you know, the mating process of the cardinals involves the male holding the eggs (and not eating) for an extended period of time. As such, they typically need "practice" so the male can go so long without eating. This typically means that they will have multiple clutches of eggs they will bail on. So that might be what you were also seeing in the 17G
Hey IR, great video! Just found your channel and will definitely be hanging around. Question: did you buy your Anthias in your larger tank as a group? have you had them long? I bought one and it quickly died. I've heard they are caught using cyanide and that can affect their longevity. Would love a video or a comment on that topic like Colton Downard below.
Thank you! Currently using Red Sea Blue Bucket, though I have used HW before and Tropic Marin Pro Reef before that, all no issue. I do not have water storage and bring in a 44g brute trash can and make RODI water + salt the day before. (Got a 200 gpa RODI unit)

Tank is looking amazing! That mangrove is growing out of control. I’m still trying to keep one - mine tends to die after a while after seeming to do well
I don't think it was better to throw the Cardinals in a bigger tank with more fish. You were better off taking out the blenny only so Cardinals can be alone to breed.
I do believe it is pronounced "brissel" worm, however, I could be wrong. Regardless, I love your tank and channel. Keep up the great work and awesome videos!
Good to see you again Moki tank is looking awesome, watch those clowns if they are going to jump it will be second the lights go out, my picassos have been saved by the uro brace more than a couple of times, luckily i was turning lights on and off manually due to new tank upgrade so i was able to hear them flying up the side of the tank and hitting the brace, if it were a rimless set up and i was not there to witness , my clowns would have spent the night on the floor....
Glad you rescued your clowns in time Jason and thanks for the heads up. I’m considering a mesh top though it’d just be the front part of the tank, debating…
I think the traps are useless. I had it. The best way is to lift out the rock you saw the Bristleworm going into, and you pour Soda into the hole, which irritates the worm, and it will come out. Another way is to put the Rock in a bowl with a small of Tank water in the bowl just enough for the bottom of the rock to be in water, as the water comes out the Rock the Bristle Worm will come out in search of water so it can breathe and then you lift the rock up until it drops into the bowl. You do not want to pull it because the segments will snap, and you will still have the worm in the Aquarium. I hope this helps. Take care, Sir. 👍🙂❤️
@Happy Chappy Well that is good that it has worked for you. Boxer Shrimp and Longnose Wrasse Fish are also very good at getting rid of Bristleworms. They eat them. I prefer the Wrasses as they are more active and are less likely to be caught by Britsle Worms especially if you have a school of Five or Six together. 👍🙂❤️
Thanks for the soda water idea! The tricky part is that that huge arch is one piece cemented together and not easy to remove from the tank... so I may have to try the trap. I have a feeling that the melanurus wrasse is keeping the large bristleworm on guard so it is not as bold, may be a good thing, but also make it a little trickier to snatch!
I hope the cardinals have babies I wanna see a group of cardinals cruising around... I would love to see more nano gobies/blemmy.... maybe some purple fire fish ... maybe some of those small blue catfish that school or something.... maybe it's time to start a few nano tanks... you should go all MD fish tanks and get a studio ala. A group of baby cardinals for awhile would be awesome! I would love to keep LTA & a longspin urchin with the group! Let's hope the pair does well enough in the 135g to breed! (and RIP Jake)
I have a 15g tank that I am trying to get setup so I would like to see a new video from you about your 17g tank. I'm having trouble getting the water to clear up right now. I had the water tested and Petco said that the water is good to go for adding fish. I'm just afraid to add anything until I can get the water to clear up. May I suggest a bag of carbon if you want the water cleared up? It could be bacteria or algae bloom, most are usually OK with fish if the actual parameters are good 👍
@@InappropriateReefer I have carbon in the tank. I have a tank with a built in over flow filter. I have the first chamber with the filter sock that came with the tank and the next chamber has the carbon and the bio-media in it and the third chamber has the return pump in it.

Try layers of filter floss, I use 3 layers of dual sided floss, and a super fine floss as a last stage, keeps the water about as bright and clear as possible without carbon, or anything else. Also, since the tank is new, it may take a while for the water to clear up, patience is key.
