I visited the Ski resort in the Cairngorms about five years ago and photographed my first Snow Bunting in the very same car park. I dipped on the Crested Tit and the Scottish Crossbill while I was there but the Red Squirrels more than made up for it. Scotland is without any doubt, my favorite part of the world. 👍 Aberdeen and Deeside is on the agenda for July 2024. I can't wait.
I totally agree with you John, it’s my aim in life to one day live in Scotland. Such a beautiful country, but I have to say that the Isle of Mull is without doubt my favourite place 👍🏻
Another fantastic video. Thanks Dan.
Thanks very much Sheila, always appreciated ☺️
Great pictures ! Thank you for sharing.
My pleasure, thanks for your comment 👍🏻
Lovely little video as ever Dan (very relaxing/therapeutic).

Great photos and video - the "how to" of getting images and videos of the Cairngorm snow buntings is excellent!!!
Thanks very much I really appreciate it. All the very best 👍🏻
Another great video. All the photos are great, but the snow buntings are spectacular.
Thanks very much Lynne, really appreciate it ☺️
Thanks a lot Dan,top notch 🤘
Thanks very much Aly, always appreciated 👍🏻
I know it's a text book stuff - having your subject the main focus and a defused background but these images of yours taken in this way Dan shows these birds off beautifully, fantastic set. 👌
Thanks very much Glenn I really appreciate that 👍🏻
Great stuff as always Dan. We only saw one crested when we were there in September. No crossbills of course but defo want to get the snow buntings in future. Lovely birds.
Thanks very much Ian 👍🏻
Good work Dan, shame you never found the Crested but always a good excuse to get back up there!!🤣 Its a magical place in the Winter is Scotland, well done on the 4K subs 👍🏼
Cheers Simon really appreciate it mate. All the very best 👍🏻
I am so inspired by your wildlife photography Dan. I only came across your videos a couple of weeks ago, but now I'm an avid watcher.Your easy going manner is a joy and you make everything look so easy when we all know it can be anything but. As soon as these storms go past I will be booking a couple of hide visits to Gigrin Farm and then up to Yorkshire.
Thanks very much Keith, I really appreciated and enjoyed reading your comment.
All the best 👍🏻
Another great video Dan. Lovely photos and footage of the Snow Buntings at Cairn Gorm. It’s a good spot for them. Pity you missed out on the Crested Tit at Loch Garten, it usually comes up trumps there but I guess that means another trip at some point…😂
Thanks very much Mark, you are absolutely right I’m currently planning a return trip 😂
All the very best 👍🏻
Another good one Dan!.....love the Snow Buntings very nice looking birds 😀
Thanks very much Chris, really appreciate that 👍🏻

Wonderful! Great shots at some great areas! Thanks (as always) for letting me tag along! You are doing a great job!
Cheers Jon, really appreciate your comment and your continued support mate 👍🏻
Good one Dan. I absolutely love that area, been a few times. You do get Cresties at loch garten in the spring, they come to the feeders just on the entry path. If your lucky enough to get a ray of light coming through the canopy, otherwise it's poor light. I have often considered a winter visit but never took the bite. Maybe one year.
Thanks very much, appreciated as always. That’s worth knowing about the spring visits to the feeder so thanks for sharing 👍🏻
That was a great video, Dan. I didn't want it to end! I love the Cairngorms and I've also had coal tits feeding from my hand there. A great experience. Hoping to go back there myself in October.
Thank you very much Debbie, the coal tits feeding out of my hand was a first for me and an incredible experience. I too love the Cairngorms, as soon as I returned I’ve been planning my next visit 😊 all the best
Always look forward to your videos! Another great one to watch, thank you!
Thank you very much Hilary, really appreciate it 👍🏻
Wonderful part of the country, great for birding and flying my Red Tailed Hawk, first went to Loch Garten back in the 80s for the Osprey but the highlight was 3 Crested Tits . Crossbills were always around at the Falconry Centre, had some wonderful views of them bathing in the sun in puddles, such vivid colours, sadly all before I had a camera, hope to get up the Northumberland coast when the storm goes away and photograph some Snow Bunting. Super video again Dan you put some miles in , cracking. Derek.
Thanks very much Derek and thank you for sharing your memories and experiences it’s great to read about them. I must admit I would love to see more of the crossbills they are a stunning bird.
All the very best 👍🏻
Dan, crossbills are awesome! We sometimes get the Red Crossbills irrupting from Canada. Last year was better, with dozens at local hotspots. This winter only a handful here and there. They are nearly identical to the Scottish that you saw. If you're lucky and find a flock they can be very outgoing. Last winter my first siting was a small flock that I spent 20 minutes with, very close, with no one else around. All of a sudden, "jip jip jip" calls and they were gone! My wife and I went out birding yesterday and got a fleeting glimpse of a female, and heard maybe a few more. Your dog is so well behaved! Did she go with you up to where the hares were in the previous video?
Wow I would love to experience irruption of crossbills I bet that’s awesome. They are such an intriguing bird with that very unique shaped bill, nothing quite like it.
Our little frenchie is well behaved but when on the mountain with the hares she stayed on a leash with my wife well back from the hares.
All the best 👍🏻
hello Dan, a good video although I find a bit overex, loch garten reminds me of good memories I was there in 1981 good day
Glad it brought back some memories 👍🏻
Hello Dan, brilliant place we were 2 years a go. Taynuilt is brilliant for OTTERS. Dawn how more can video better than this. 5 star dan
Cheers Martin, always very much appreciated. Thank you for sharing the location for the otters, I will definitely check that out on my next visit 👍🏻
Hey Dan, Can you please make a video on Hawfinch. They are on listed red and would make a good video.
Thanks for the suggestion I will definitely look into Hawfinch for you, I’ve been given a tipoff for a possible location so that might be a goer 👍🏻
I'm struggling to get birds to feed on a feeder and here's you just sticking your hand out and they come to feed haha. Do you know anywhere decent to go for birds near Liverpool? I like just trying to get them on video for now using feeders and a GoPro because that's all I have. But would love to start learning about bird photography in the future.
Thanks very much Ste, appreciate it.
There are quite a few places over Liverpool way for birds.
Lunt Meadows is a fantastic reserve with very good chances of seeing short earred owls at this time of year, well worth checking out 👍🏻
@@danwillis_photography Thanks I've not been there before. I'll try that this week I think.
Hello Dan, super video. As some one just try to get in to wildlife/bird photography, (with no success). Been retired and have a limited budget I just like to ask are you using auto ISO is set your camera at 1/2000 and f2.8 them letting the camera chose the ISO? Love the 400mm f2.8 just so far out of my budget. I am shooting with a Nikon Z8 or Z9 with the 600mm f6.3 or 500mm pf with FTz.
Thanks very much John, really appreciate it.
The camera/lens combo you have got is awesome and will definitely yield fantastic results.
In answer to your question I do use auto ISO. The light changes so frequently and rapidly in the uk it’s difficult but not impossible to do so. I also use exposure compensation to fine tune the camera as it can produce images on the bright side at times and equally for dark subjects it can underexpose. Hope that makes sense and all the best 👍🏻
hi, i tried taking photos of the snow buntings in december but i was having trouble with the wind.etc. however, it was then that i noticed that people put seeds out and i wondered what types of seeds i should bring. any help is appreciated. thanks!
Hi, thanks very much for your comment. Most people put sunflower hearts. I use peanuts which I mush up into a pulp with a stone as they won’t take a whole one 👍🏻
