This is very informative, straight forward, no pretension, old fashioned and indigenous cuisine. Some does not wear gloves because why would they need to? The equipment are ancient and that makes the food even better! If I could give 2000 thumbs up I would! Great Video!
its very typical in the Philippine island to have a egg yolk based desserts... when ever a church is built egg yolk based treats appear thanks you for featuring the island cheers
Hahahhaa my Canadian husband and my Italian Cousin loved to ride that Tricycle. Filipino food is as diverse as the the number of their island. In every province there is always specialty. I love it !
Now, this is something different. Been seeing the same kind of food and place like "the urban poor or squatters area every time they feature the Philippines. So, this is a very good representation so thank you so much Mike Colameco's Real Food. At least we have the Piyaya added on the list hahaha. We have more local dishes out there. In fact, every city/province has a signature dish to offer and I hope in the future someone will feature these dishes too.
great show, man. i gotta be honest with you. i was initially very skeptical and thought that you'd be a bourdain or zimmern copy cat but you're very much you're own person. as others have said, you're straight to the point, allow the show to be fun, and aren't condescending which happens with a lot of food show hosts. awesome.
I'm not Philippine, but I just think / know...it is PARADISE! You have PARADISE, GOOD FOOD, WONDERFUL PEOPLE AND ALL THAT EQUALS = HEAVEN! GREAT JOB...THANKS!
Great vid Mike! It's a shame that I've only known about your channel today. At the start of this vid I was very excited with the food that you're about to try and was saying to myself if only you can visit my hometown. To my surprise you then featured Bacolod and the famous chicken inasal and the piaya too hahaha. Also I was relieved when I heard King's comment about trying to replicate the process of marinating the inasal in NYC and it wouldn't taste the same. I must admit that I'm not as good as you guys (not even a chef) but I've been trying to replicate the marination process but it just wont taste the same. It must be the chicken or the secret FEATHER brush?? Anyway, great vid and will definitely follow the channel.
if ever you have another trip to the Philippines, you have to try one of the signature dishes of Bacolod City, and that's KANSI. It a sour soup with beef shank. IT'S A BOMB!
Thanks for doing an honest review of the Philippines. I hate it when vloggers try to do a review of a culture and its food without doing the researcher. Keep up the great videos.
I love ur nose. ur so much better host than guy fieri ..at least your not trying to be funny like he is and laughs at himself . ur to the point and ask the right questions.
Being a food blogger u must loved food very much u did a good job about your research in traditional food culture in the Philippines. Philippines has also original cuisines before other country colonized us...every region has traditional food to offer. :)
Maganda ba. Marsarap ba. Salamat po. It's beautiful, it's delicious! Believe it or not, P.I. has the BEST Chinese food in the world, hands down. Their "Lumpia" is the best "egg roll" you will ever have.
The roots of Halo Halo( Mix Mix) was not a derivative from a 1962 mother with an idea. My Lola used to have it, and her mother had it so that's within the 1900s.
Lol. At least he tried the durian. Some "foodies" don't even dare taste it as they are turned off by the look or smell. But durian is not for everyone. As he said- it's either you love it or hate it.
On the Durian, you failed to mention Mike (perhaps the locals didn't let you in on its secret) that it is one of the most potent aphrodisiacs on the planet!
I had sooo many great food of Manila However the first one was a huge disappointment Halo Halo ..I tought it was going to be ice cream and sweets and i hate yam textures ..lol But Taho was great Turon my girlfriends dad made Iechon from a pig he took out back and killed to put on a charcoal spit Bolalo in Tayatay (told it was the best all around ) and it was good! Seafood in Boracay! Sisig and red horse while on a outside bar table around friendly people and music great place to see P.S. mike i'm in Canada i look for good food spots 2 of which you have to Google/try Montreal smoked meat at Schwartz's Deli (famous) Montreal will give NY deli's a run for the money (bagels too) and Dinosaur Bar B Que in Rodchester NY or Jersey
There are different versions of Halo Halo. It can be bland or very sweet like an ice cream sundae. There are literally like 200 different mixes. Try it with Ube (purple yam) ice cream and you will have a new outlook on yams.
13:52 Not really rare. Obviously the Fil Am chef's been away from the Philippines... Lumpia wrappers are still made that way all around the Philippines.

I agree. This is actually what food shows should be.
