Your comment, about the fans on the Alienware Laptops, is spot on. I have an M11X R2 and the thing sounded like it was ready to take off when I was gaming. Worst part was, it made tons of noise, but didn't actually stay cool. Buddy of mine in College has an M13, same story. However, One of the instructors has an M18, and it's silent, even gaming.
Built off MSI GT70, basically a re-brand. Loud fan, a little bulky and only one fan so the temperatures won't be amazing. Its a decent desktop replacement, but not what I'm a looking for. If I were looking for desktop replacement I'd still go with an Asus.
As a fellow gaming laptop enthusiast, I have to admit there's a form of mastery when it comes to finding the perfect mix of aesthetics and performance. I don't care if there's a laptop I could buy for $200 less that will get the same performance if it looks like a brick made by Fischer Price. That said, I've found a wonderful laptop with the HP Envy 15t-3200. Probably the most beautiful gaming laptop I've seen. Cheap too! I got mine for just under $1k with an i7-3820qm, ATI 7750m + 8GB RAM.
I've owned this machine for a short time. It's a great little notebook PC, but unfortunately, I've gone through 2 of them due to flimsy keyboards and a broken hinge out of the box. Seems like your laptop's got the better QA inspection. :D I'm probably going to give this machine a third go ( i7 model ) because I really appreciate the design and the battery life for such a small footprint. My only quirk with this laptop is the lack of service compartments ( for upgrades, excluding RAM ). Good vid!
So far its a 9 or 9.5. Only thing would be I wish it were more powerful, but since its technically last gen, that will be fixed when the new one comes out. Doubt I'll upgrade when it launches though, pretty happy with this thing. In comparison, Sager gets 7.5. And yes, so close!
Still great! If you want more power you can always try to sell it and get a new one with a 765m :D You'd probably get somewhere around $900, but ask more ofcourse.
MikeTheVike or you could buy a G46VR motherboard that is compatible with the chassis and comes with a 760m, add a 3740qm, unlock the bios and over clock it to 4,1Ghz and over clock the 760m to get it faster than a 770m at stock. G46VR motherboards can be had at around 150$.. also add a Samsung 850 evo mSata 500GB, a 2TB HDD , 16GB DDR3 1866 and upgrade to a FHD 1080p display. And use a GTX1080 as an eGPU using mpcie. That's what I did ;)
Yea I've heard of all that. The ASUS isn't good for having two fans, its good for having two GOOD and QUIET fans. The ones on the gigabyte have a problem cooling the CPU apparently, although it does look gorgeous (mainly P35K), and there are a few other problems which I can't recall. And yes, that's why I bought this version instead of waited for refresh [g46vr] as its so far away from launch.
Loud fan, gets hot and IMO looks too plastic-y. I really liked it other than those things though, it looked great at first. If I find one cheap one day and there is no ASUS G46Vw revision, i might try it out.
Hey Mike! I've been researching this laptop for awhile and have been wanting to pick it up myself. I was wondering where you bought yours at? Also for what price? Ik newegg sells this model but the hard drive is 5400rpm instead of 7200rpm like you have. Also the newegg model only has a resolution of 1366 x 768 instead of 1600 like yours.
is worth it to buy it now? because i want asus '14, but there isn't any sign that asus will release haswell and 700/800M series graphic.. so is it worth it to buy it now? considering it is End '12 model but the model i got here is i7 3210qm 3.4GHz quad-core. thankss for the answer!
I have this laptop for close to a year and it took months to find a gaming laptop that was thin, under 1k, and well build. One thing I hate the most is having a 1999 plastic looking laptop it can run a titan with a intel xeon but if it looks like or feels like a 300 plastic dell I wont buy it.

Looks awesome, cooling sounds pretty nice. Hopefully it works out for you.
