    I am going to join a B-school and being an engineer was anxious how will I cope up with finance and other such subjects which are totally from a different stream. Somebody suggested this course and honestly I was hooked from first lecture, the inherent humour and class interaction were cherry on cake. Can't believe it's from 2008, the audio quality is top notch but then again we are talking about MIT. Not sure how much of the concepts used here will be in my course but I am definitely more confident now.

    Coming here to scribble the comments toward 15.481: Lecture 6 Financial Implication of COVID-19. Glade to have Andrew Lo implement the updated finacial implications linked with 21 century supernova pandemic impacts on global financial condition esp in micro economy. Yes, confusion, anxiety, freakout mingling with uncertainty to the future.
    Well not only eyewitness on the human being's instinct reactions either the "financial issue or hoarding the basic necessity from toilet paper to the protien source that even you got cash or plastic money but couldn't have them to my stomach say at all for quite while. Even a and the only pack of scarce of meat on spine on the shelf would do and cost me a front teeth. Damn.
    But thanks God not very socialize and my past clinical experience let me survive today. at 30:00, Professor Lo talks about how hyperstimulation from monetary rewards as a result of constant prosperity could cause 'addiction' and potentially lead to overextesnison. this sounds like a prophecy now, looking at China's real estate bubbles and the P2P bubbles in 2018. People are so used to fast economical growth and adapt their heuristics to that kind of growing financial environment and thus willing to invest even when there are clear signals of danger.

    We are all addicted to money -- money does work like an addictive drug on the brain. So, how can we overcome this constant and this endless need for money? How can we be happy without the need for money? What can we use in place of money to give us happiness and satisfaction without the addition? There must be at least one good answer to this question.

    • @awesomebearaudiobooks
      @awesomebearaudiobooks 3 года назад +2

      Money is a social construct. It's a medium of exchange, it is not addictive.
      What really causes the addiction is the fact that in its present form can be accumulated in indefinite qualities so really rich persons who already have billions of dollars start chasing additional profits to add zeroes to their profiles (which gives an illusion of ever-increasing happiness for such individuals), while their drives for-profits suck the life of millions of working people forced to work for lowest wages possible.
