    Alchemists should have more potions and more buffs from their experiments. Astromancers should have more ways to manipulate the winds of magic. They should also give the Wuxing Compass an aoe buff similar to the Corpse Cart, maybe make it toggleable between two effects, Yin aura giving +MA and damage, Yang aura to give +MD and missile resist, and the active aura could also give the corresponding Harmony bonus.

    I disagree with the Nurgle Cultist's position
    Nurgle's faction uniquely benefits from summons because unbinding summons contribute to Nurgle's army abilities. The hitpoints of the summons are counted towards damage taken, meaning just one Nurgle cultist with both summon abilities can add a lot to the army ability bar, I believe it's easily enough to get the healing army ability
    It's important to note that the health of the units the hero summons is quite high, especially the GUO, which means that the amount of points you get for summon a GUO which then dies due to being a summon is really high, much higher than any other single unit that Nurgle's armies can summon. Sure you can get 3 plaguebearer summons from one of the plagues, and sure Ku'Gath can summon Nurglings, but GUO blow both out of the water in terms of bursting up the ability meter. A nurgle cultist makes using Nurgle's tier 3 ability actually viable instead of just holding onto the 2nd tier ability until you need it
    Having multiple Nurgle cultists in your army means you get more summons and thus more uses of the army abilities. When you say the Tzeentch cultist will outkill all the others, I think you're not taking the fact that the Nurgle cultist can allow you to use the tier 3 army ability more with Nurgle when using the cultist summons to fill it (it probably still doesn't outdamage the Tzeentch cultist, but I would think that it at least makes the Nurgle cultist the 2nd best damage dealer of the 4)
    Also, the Nurgle cultist is significantly faster than the units he summons especially while on horseback, meaning he can get in, contest and area with summons and hold back enemies from flanking or taking a point until slower units arrive
    Finally, some of the items Nurgle can get for his heroes can shore up his weaknesses in dealing with anti-large, so having more heroes can be a really good thing, and you get cultists through level 3 settlements which you'll have a number of by mid-late game

    • @dumbboyalex4396

      Tzeench Cultist ABSOLUTELY outkills Nurgle Cultist 1-1, Lore of Fire outkills no magic unquestionably and even blue horrors get more kills than GUO. But my problem with Tzeench cultist is that you must use fire magic to get value with it, otherwise it's a lackluster duelist with campaign movement up - And that kinda is borderline good for Tzeench. Because your lord ALWAYS is a caster, and you generally want to use them to cast spells, unless you REALLY want lore of fire, over lore of Tzeench. There's pros and cons to both lores in my opinion though you can just theoretically use both, you'll be splitting your winds economy. Nurgle cultist on the other hand is a good duelist and high movement in an army who struggles to have either in their roster. Nurgle cultist absolutely A tier, competitively S tier for its role, and Tzeench cultist is borderline A or B tier, since it has to contest in it's role.

    • @highvoltage988
      @highvoltage988 2 года назад +10

      100% agree, Nurgle cultist should get A tier thanks to early horse speed alone. Really helps early in the battle, great for backcapping in settlements, add in the summons and you've got so much utility for bogging down defenders in settlements or setting up battle lines in field engagements while your army is getting in position. Never leave home without at least 2 of these bad boys.

      "Nurgle cultist absolutely A tier, competitively S tier for its role, and Tzeench cultist is borderline A or B tier, since it has to contest in it's role."
      Exactly
      One to one without the wider context of each faction's army, Tzeentch cultist is better than Nurgle cultist, but in the context of their actual gameplay Nurgle cultist massively outstrips the Tzeentch one
      With the infinite WoM exploit this is less apparent, but I guarantee you that when that exploit is fixed the Tzeentch cultist will be one of if not the worst of the Chaos cultists. If you can only cast maybe 4 firestorms per battle, you're not going to want the caster who can't fly and is useless as soon as he runs out of WoM

      @jacobsampsonis7782 2 года назад

      But it's not overpowered in what it actually does. It does it's thing well . Which is the bar for b tier. Ones above that have things they can exploit other than the very underwhelming un summon mechanic you mentioned that nurgle benefits from... Just because you really like nurgle doesn't mean they're objectively better

    • @dumbboyalex4396
      @dumbboyalex4396 2 года назад

      @@jacobsampsonis7782 I like all the demon factions. Maybe save for Slaanesh as I do not enjoy their playstyle very much.
      What exactly does a cultist of tzeench do, that a herald of tzeench lord or iridescent horror can't do, besides fire magic, which tzeench magic typically competes for the role of magic in your army? And beyond that, campaign movement? Without it's magic the cultist does two jobs incredibly well: Block campaign movement, and increase campaign movement. It can't fight worth for crap and your magic SHOULD (Heavy emphasis on SHOULD because of intended game design, despite the existence of infinite winds bug/player feedback saying it shouldn't be capped at 100) be heavily limited. Firestorm is great, but it can be chaotic and difficult to predict. I like Infernal Gate more because it's reliable.
      Meanwhile, more fodder in a Nurgle army is extremely useful, especially since it can be deployed anywhere (Horse + portal = really slow, really bulky man or men IN YOUR BACKLINE), and the cultist himself fights pretty well, though he does more than a GUO for the army, and can even drop a temporary one at any time at max potential. Whereas the Tzeench cultist can basically summon a couple of archers and a flying monster who can know magic but isn't really dedicated to that role. And even if he did cast magic: It'd take away from your fire magic, which again, pulls away from his value. I'll at least say a Lord of Change can run a fade with weaker units but not fast enough to warrant his summon being a reliable tactic.
      What exactly warrants A tier for Tzeench Cultist, if I missed anything..?

    Astromancer is the best hero for defending settlements. Astromancer saved my garrison so many times, using the melee buff to bolster the defense of the celestial dragon guard. Allowing a single unit to hold the line, while towers do their thing. Maybe do a tier list of how good the defenses of each faction are (not counting armies, but tier 2 walled minor settlements)?

I attached them in most of my armies but almost never used them barring the odd debuff when my frontline was engaged and I didn't have anything else to micro. There's one point about the Nurgle Cultist that you didn't touch on. Mobility.
    It is easily their fastest ground unit, and is capable of disrupting enemies to great effect for a faction that would otherwise struggle to do so. As a hero performing its role, I agree with your B rating. I would, however, argue that because of how valuable this role of mobile disruption and armour sundering is far more valuable within Nurgle's roster then the Khornate cultist is within theirs

    Patriarch are at least A tier. One by itself may not be much but put 3-5 in one army and WOW.
    Four Patriarchs with a Boyar can take on every garrisson by themselves and win easily, by alternating heals and other cooldowns.
    A Kostaltyn doomstack with only patriarchs is easy mode (even on VH battle difficulty).
    Plus they are very easy to get compared to the witches - you should build churches (tier 3 building) in all provinces. You can field 20-40 patriarchs easily. For the witches you need special tech, special buildings or tier 5 building - a pain to get more until the late game.

    I would argue that nurgles cultists have a unique role in his faction specifically.
    They sprint in way faster then anything else (except maybe furies but no one wants those) they gate a unit in and then gate in a great unclean one to back them up. This gives nurgles actual army a chance to catch up.
    Maybe compared to the other cultists he is a -B but for nurgle armies he has a specific purpose that let's for flanking, unit lock down and more that nurgle really doesn't get to have otherwise.

With a good weapon. Yao will destroy whole armies. Harmonic convergence, Stone Skin, Alchemist weapon enchant, Armor buff. With three casters and the warcompass the spell intensity is very high and she becomes very tough and all of these spells are super cheap.

    My opinion: Iridescent Horror is B tier, possibly C tier.
    While a good unit by itself, it is often overshadowed by it's peers. In two possible factions (Tzeench, Daemons of Chaos), it has to contend with the Spellcaster role. For Tzeench, your lord is ALWAYS a spellcaster, and has access to both lores of magic the Horror can provide. It just can't keep up, the Herald is the same unit but stronger, and the Lord of Change is a better spellcaster in general. The only thing a horror provides is a good ranged assassin (Or another burning chariot mount for poke damage), but Tzeench already has burning chariot units that do the same thing if not better, and ranged units are already pretty good at killing solo entity units that aren't man-sized, which Tzeench has no lack of.
    Even in the Daemons of Chaos roster, the Iridescent Horror has to contend with it's army lord being a caster. The only exceptions are a Khorne Herald, a Nurgle Herald, or Daniel. If you have Daniel there it's acceptable, but a Plagueridden would provide healing or better assassin damage, where Daniel is great at cleaning up armies where spells would be most effective. You can make a similar argument for Herald of Khorne, where healing from Nurgle Lore or selective damage from Death Lore is more impactful than Metal or Tzeench lores. In a Nurgle Herald army, it's justifiable if you need Tzeench lore for AoE damage, presuming your herald needs a backup lore of magic, or is being built to mortus engine, either as an exalted unclean one, or as a rotfly cav (Most lords just do both magic and before explained, but to reach that with 50 points you may have to sacrifice some good stuff from either blue, red, or yellow lines. For Daemons of Chaos, red line matters more if your army is predominantly Nurgle, which makes this argument somewhat niche, hurting the Iridescent Horror's rank further).
    So, no, I don't think the Iridescent Horror is very good. It's most functional use is to blend lores (Daemons of Chaos has more options, Tzeench doesn't really utilize Lore of Metal very well), and it's second most functional use is to be a backup caster or conduit for Tzeench magic being used quickly or reliably, which in a well structured army isn't incredibly useful outside of blowing all your winds of magic in the first 2 minutes on flames or vortex spells.

    All cultists are S-tier in my opinion due to their summons. Most battles are won by concentration of force and having, say, 5 cultists can do two summons each in quick succession, bringing 15 units to devastate a flank or clear a chokepoint.
    I would rate patriarch higher at A-tier. Their role is either to tank for an archer spam, which they are solid at on their bear, or to buff war bear riders for which their aoe buffs are good, especially the heal.

  • @bigrockwall8700
    @bigrockwall8700 2 года назад

    Feel like you are strongly underestimating patriarchs. They provide several very important functions, all related to health.
    1 - They have heal clicky that can be used multiple times per fight that is aoe and doesn't appear to have a unit cap. Only source of combat healing for Kislev.
    2 - Replenishment. The special skill that buffs replenishment also happens to buff the heal.
    3 - The reason to bring a second, aside from just heals. The other special skill that reduces attrition for the stack. Partially for the RoC realms, but mostly for countering plague, combined with the replenishment boost.
    Plague can be countered with enough attrition reduction and replenishment buffs. They are effectively the same stat when combating plagues.

Ontop of that he needs more movement range than other characters because of bloodletting. Because he has such abysmal movement range you are constantly at low levels of bloodletting, which reduces growth in all your settlements. Its actually a huge downside half the time. And you are forced to use March stance pretty much every 2nd turn which is risky against ambushes.

      No seriously though, it pisses me off - his faction is literally an amalgamation of other factions with ZERO unique units of their own apart from Daniel himself... so of course Daniel is meant to be the focus of the entire faction, what makes it great and unique, and was certainly marketed as such too with the "amazing" customization mechanic. Except... it's just a string of sidegrade cosmetics pretty much, and even at 'maximum' power he's not even the best Lord in the game at *anything*... Short of perhaps reducing upkeep for his own army.

    Only thing I use Alchemists for is money and yin-yang. Boost income, then give them Tax Collector follower (easy to farm) and stick them in your richest province (probably gold mine). Secondarily they serve as a "homeland defense" for dealing with cultists and other enemy heroes that slip into Cathay, the rest chill and keep my yin-yang balanced in the event of unforeseen circumstances. My current province taxes yield about 15k from it. Besides that though... they're pretty useless.

      Lore of Heavens is pretty neat but overall underwhelming when you can just make your lords casters anyway and not really lose anything.
      Alchemists absolutely underwhelming. Make good home agents though for stabbing enemy agents, while Astromancer gives that sweet sweet research bonus which Cathay really wants more of. Their tree is enormous and imbalances you actively. Astromancer in that regard is underrated. Used as a unit in an army though, kind of hard pressed to beat alchemist in the same role.

    In my opinion both the tzeentch cultist and the horror are easily S tier. Barrier, lore of fire and summons? Something else to consider is that the lore of fire synergizes ridiculously well with the lore of tzeentch, kindleflame increases the amount of fire weakness, most lore of tzeentch spells deal fire damage and inflict warpflame which increases the fire weakness even further. It’s ridiculous. The horror is just an insanely good hero with a really good mount

  • @luskieman
    @luskieman 2 года назад

    Honestly the only one i disagree with is the Nurgle Cultist. He provides so much to alleviate a lot of shortcomings in the Nurgle roster, especially early on.
    He can sunder armour so the non-ap units (of which there are a lot) can do more damage. He can move fast and summon units in the backline where Nurgle units generally don't manage to get to. And he personally has regen so he can bait some ranged as well.

    • @fish5645
      @fish5645 2 года назад

      Legend does say about the regen to be fair, also like he said B is basically the unit is where he feels it should be with A being slightly above average and S being on the side of OP compared to the rest. I agree that the cultist fills some massive holes left in the Nurgle roster, for me it was lord killing power as Nurgle as barely anything able to stand toe to toe with a lord and live (including great unclean ones in my experience) but the cultist could, for me he duelled ... the "boss" at the end (avoiding spoilers). I would say his weaknesses are his melee is not the best for sure and his horse mount isn't the best either but in a Nurgle army it is invaluable. It also suffers from the thing Legend spoke of with not having enough skills at level 50 resulting in points just sitting around not being able to be used. Hopefully this oversight is fixed when CA pulls their thumbs out their asses and actually finish this game lmao overall I think B is fair, in his army he is good but compared to other lords he is average. Not the worst (LOL IMAGINE CATHAY) and not the best which honestly should be the demonic lords anyway at least for now until Empires comes out.

    As someone who has completed a full campaign as Cathay, I have to agree about their heroes, you really don't use them as casters because you have better options (Both the Siblings and the Shugengun lords are better).
    The Alchemist can actually escape if needed, but the Astromancer... Well, less so.
    I think the Alchemist has a potential to be great if they make her buffs to be AoE abilities rather than a single target ones, especially the one which imbues magic damage.
    They do need better mounts, the Shugenguns have a Longma and is really good with it (fast flying casters are always good) but the heroes have horses (and slow ones with that) or the Compass (which can benefit casting) which can be problematic.
    Anyhow, they really lack in the heroes department, they don't really need more casters, they need warriors which can hold the line, none of the generic characters can do this at the moment.
    Probably waiting for a DLC, maybe with an Engineer or something...

    I think nurgle cultist should be a tier lower than khorne one because summoning a bloodletter is way more valuable than summoning a plague bearer, because bloodletters will do much more damage in the time they are summoned for

    • @rogofos
      @rogofos 2 года назад

      the strength of a plague bearer is in how tanky they are
      so they can fight for a really long time... which summons can't because their time is limited anyway
      so
      plague bearers may be better as a unit in general
      but bloodletters are a much better summon

  • @Massivecow1337
    @Massivecow1337 2 года назад +1

    Cathay's heroes do feel rather underwhelming.
    I think the Alchemist's buffs should be upgradeable to be AoE, and give them a bound Potion of Toughness or something. What kind of alchemist doesn't have potions? Also, yeah, give 'em a Sky Junk mount. If it's too OP, just make it be a level 24 mount or something so you can't get one too early.
    The Astromancer could either get some bound spells as well, to reinforce his spellcaster role, or possibly he could get a Summon Ancestral Warriors bound ability (like the factionwide army ability for being in harmony, or that enchanted item Cathay gets.) While he wouldn't necessarily be a good frontline fighter, being able to summon some expendable (and honestly pretty good) frontline fighters could be a good way to balance it out.

    as an ogre lover i feel like you undervalue the damage of the maw lore and overvalue beasts. flock of doom has a big aoe and its cheap sure but it takes like 5 or 6 casts to get half an enemies hp off and by then ive paid 30 winds and waited several minutes on cooldowns. an overcast maw might cost 28 winds but will typically take down 50-75% of infantry and cavalry and ive had it instantly end blob fights which is way more valuable than slow damage over time of beasts.
    also i think lore of ice is slightly better than you give it credit. heart of winter can do high damage and doesnt do friendly fire and has huge aoe making it excellent to dump on your front line and watch the enemy die. crystal sanctuary can turn a unit into a wall

  • @aninnymouse1069
    @aninnymouse1069 2 года назад

    Probably unpopular opinion, but I think the Astromancer is pretty decent. War Compass on its own is not worth it, but the War Compass as a mount is excellent, free bound spells on a hero is great, especially since they punish blobs so heavily. Free magic is always great! Wish he had an AoE.

    The flying mounts for the iridescent horror seem to cause the AI to prioritize focusing them down. Or at least the disc does.

    • @aprinnyonbreak1290
      @aprinnyonbreak1290 2 года назад

      That's just the normal AI, and especially Kislev.
      Kislev will focus fire any flying character, especially casters. Iridescent Horrors, Heralds of Tzeentch, Plagueridden on Rotflies, Lords of Change, or even the Daniel if he dares to cast a spell in midair. Entire blocks of units will abandon their allies to chase down that Lord of change for the entire map.
      It's annoying, because they can drop a Hero from full health in like, two volleys if you aren't paying attention, but is also hilariously exploitable if you notice it, since units focusing that character will stop at nothing to reach them, including walking past their front line and into yours.
      The thing about disks is that they have a HORRENDOUS "taking missile fire" animation that takes forever, and usually just results in a stun lock. Fortunately, the descend button doesn't care about that, so that's how you escape.
      Also hilariously, because they don't cast spells, Bloodthirsters are almost completely ignored by ranged units if a spooky iridescent horror is nearby, making the mere existence of an iridescent horror on a disc an excellent defense buff to Bloodthirsters in Undivided.

    Conceptually I love Cathay, but god does it need a lot of work. Obviously this is most obvious on their heroes, but I think the harmony mechanic itself needs major work (especially on campaign + mb a little more range still in battle) and many of their units still need power buffs (especially their guns ... they require way too much micro right now for what they bring).

    I very much disagree with Nurgle Cultist being B teir. They are Nurgles fastest unit. They summon, they regen, they are tanky af. Playing with my buddy I would rush cultists into battle, often flank to get the range, drop summons and force the blob onto the enemy backline allowing the casters on rot flies to fly up and cast spells on the blob. Nurgle Cultists are second only to the lords and casters in powerful units in Nurgles roster. A teir at the least.

I don't mind lore of heavens for siege maps: blob the enemy around your tanky lord (Miao Ying) and bomb the crap out of them, or bomb enemies on the wall (or destroy the wall/towers). Leftover alchemists are decent to leave in your richest territory to boost income (like dark/high elves, or VC necromancers) since they get a blue-line skill to boost income.
