A literal "blast from the past"! Today we give you one of our favorite planes! The McDonnell Douglas MD-11 flown by KLM - Royal Dutch Airlines. This video was recorded back in October 2014, and was, therefore, one of the last passengers operated flights. The MD-11 lives on with cargo operations!
We hope you enjoy this video, which we've had in the archives now for 4 years! Thank you all for watching!
Happy flying!

most beautiful trijet to ever grace our world
I’d have to go with the 727 being the most beautiful trijet 😊
@@margaret1321el MD11 no tiene comparación es el avión más hermoso que se construyó en la aviación
@@Cris134lI like it very much but will nothing for me will ever be as magnificent as the 727😊
tristar better
Lockheed l1011:
Back then when you could name different plains by their looks..!! I miss those days..!!
My god... such a lovely aircraft. I miss this beauty
I went to Kemble airfield 2005 and found three DC 10`s parked up. They were beautiful and were sold to a south african airline later that year for £1.000.000 for all three , they were made in 1976. While I was standing beside the planes security came over but they were quite cool. The planes had been there for a year without flying in storage and were due to be scrapped. Standing by engine one the fan blades were turning in the wind like a windmill making a nice rattle noise, it was quite magical. Think of the joy and experiences these amazing machines have brought to people. Here is one of them going to it`s new owner ruclips.net/video/JmP616bOElY/видео.html
You’re not the only one my friend
Me too I have a damn crush
@@vitalyandryushin9053 Yeahhh I can‘t believe I‘m fanenbying over a plane (YKW)
The DC-10 is still in service being a FD tanker and a freighter
That was beautiful. The sound of the engine spooling up is LIFE!!!
Del DC 10 ES MÁS HERMOSO PERO EL MD 11 ES EL AVIÓN MÁS HERMOSO HUBIESE QUERIDO QUE TENGA EL SONIDO DE LOS MOTORES DEL DC 10
We miss this trijet so much! Have you ever seen a trijet in person?
You talk about TriStar L1011 in person ?
Even better, I've flown on them. DC-10, L-1011, MD-11.
I was lucky enough to fly on board Swiss Air MD-11s a couple of times.
I miss these birds.
PlanesWeekly yup Fedex DC10s and MD11s all the time
I've flown many times on DC-10s and 727s... and a few times on MD-11s and once on a TriStar. I was on one of the last commercial US 727 flights in "07 on Champion. (They continued charters & VIPs into '08.). I miss them all dearly.
It seems this could have been recorded yesterday! Excellent footage! Added to favorites. I never got the chance to fly or see a passenger MD-11 but the MD-11-F from Lufthansa Cargo is a common aircraft at my Home Airport [MMMX]. I better take some videos of it before it goes as well. This applies to the a340 and 747 because 4 engined planes will become history as well.
Wow that is a lot of rudder input going down the runway....
MD11.... the most beautiful bird ever!
I've never flown on an MD-11, but I have flown on a DC-10, and I found it a very comfortable flight. I spoke to the Captain, after landing at Oakland, and he said it was a dream to fly.
All that said, I think the third engine, mounted high on the fuselage at the tail, mars the
looks of the aircraft. But from a practical point of view, it gave airlines an option to four engine aircraft, for long, over water flights. MD-11's are still in wide use, as cargo carriers.
Flew to Hawaii many times on DC-10 IN EARLY 1990'S...MISS THEM
That's my favorite airplane
Marvellous sight and sound, Schiphol is still a good spot but less interesting without these.
One of the most beautiful aircraft that I miss
those general electric cf6's are pretty powerful engines :)
I never realized how trippy the engine on the tail is until I kept paying attention to it.
So sad you don’t see those beautiful aircraft anymore.
Yes. Enjoyed my flights in those ones to Canada!
Amazing video man! I miss this trijet so much! The MD-11 is beautiful!
1:19 Its waving goodbye
Such a great aircraft..under-rated because of a very unfair reputation.
Nah not really. The design wasn't the best and the fuel consumption was too high. Especially when twin engine planes became better. There was / is not market anymore for trijets
NinoMaartenGuitar fair enough mate.
You're right. From an aesthetic standpoint, MD-11's are arguably the most impressive looking jetliner ever built. It got an unfair reputation from plane nerds despite the fact that its accident record was no different to Boeing or the flying tin cans that are Airbus.
Este modelo es uno de los iconos más emblemáticos de la aviación comercial, su diseño es colosal y hermoso.
What a wonderful aircraft it was... Miss them a lot 😢
Great airplane, it surely is beautiful, I flew a DC 10 the first time in 1985 to JFK from CPH.
Majestic! Can hardly say that anymore. And this was when a wide-body was wide! None of this 2-3-2 shit. Just bc a plane has two aisles doesn't qualify to be a w/b!
Love this ole girl love the high taxi speed and steep climb out. MD-11's are without a doubt legendary. Awesome video thanks
As a retired flight attendant, this was my favorite widebody aircraft. Unfortunately, my company only kept them in service for a short while.
Which air line
@@alsa4real AA. I usually don't like calling out the company but obviously you have immaculate taste. You know a good be aircraft when you see one.
Back in the day.....I flew American from YYZ-LAX frequently....it was a non stop DC-10. It was my favourite aircraft and I still like her....
@@camagnew9191 I remember those days. DC10 were used on alot of domestic routes. One I recall was DC10 DFW-LAS. Full service flight. Good old days.
@@MichaelTurner-cd7er How many years were you flying with American? Do you miss flying? Would you go back to it?
that's a beautiful aircraft
It amazes me that small rudder mounted so high up creating leverage on the vertical stab worked.
That climb at vertical speed 4000 tho !
Ya dont see that nowadays
What a beautiful aircraft.
I had the wonderful opportunity to experience this beautiful aircraft from Dhaka to Paris by Biman Bangladesh, way back in 93 Dec. Such a majestic aircraft, sad it has gone out of service!! WHY ?
Apart from the Vulcan Bomber and Concorde the MD-11 is the best looking plane ever made :D absolutely love it.
It's pretty but you've got to give the SR71 that accolade
Is is just me or do both the 777 and MD-11 have blade-shaped tailcones?
Gracefully lift off the ground.
All I see is UA232...but those are nice looking planes
Great stuff, listen to them three beasts growling!
What was thise two puffs of smoke from the landing gear @ 1:47 ?? Brake dust?
I'm guessing it's due to the brakes being applied when the gear is retracted
The MD-11 is my favorite aircraft
the last of the passenger MD-11 that hit the sky.
Shall McDonnell Douglas Replace md11 with md-XX stretch The stretch version of md11 I will put it with ge90 engines, length 235.00
I miss flying with this aircraft, watching this gives me so much nostalgia
I always liked the MD-11. Even though it is an enhanced DC-10, it just had more character and appeal. It is unfortunate it did not live up to its projections. I had the pleasure of flying on it several times between ORD and DFW.
It’s a beautiful video clip.
I believe I flew in this aircraft to San Fransisco the Audrey Hepburn or the Florence Nightingale not sure
Thank your for the Upload :) MD11 - the one and only!
I had the chance to experience it a few times, as well as the DC-10, decades ago, now extinct Varig airlines… What a powerful and beautiful aircraft.!! I miss these hours so much :(
good take-off
Wow what a beautiful plane, imagine the power from that huge back engine
Thanks a lot for sharing. Super Like!
Known by those of us that had to maintain her as the MD a Lemon
now that is one hell of a nice airplane i worked on the l10-11s back in the 70s 80s man i miss the trijet i loved all the old aircraft that was the good old days
I worked on KC-10 and it’s a beautiful plane and it’s still in service
First MD11 was 1990 2:09
I love this plane, it is beautiful.
I remember this beauty landing in Quito, sorting out some high up volcanoes and landing inside the city, it was full of grace. I also flew on it, and experienced its smooth climb.
I fell in love with the MD-11. I still am!!
Amazing! Those were the days...
Saw dozens of McDonnell Douglas MD-11 there, from KLM and Martinair Cargo in that year. They're awesome planes :)
But now, I miss those Artificial Birds :(
RIP MD-11's :( :( :( :'(
1:48 is that brakes stopping the wheels?
Wow that was great!
That’s a beautiful bird ✈️
One of my favorite all time
That is a beautiful bird!!
When planes had personality and airlines cared about passengers.
Trijets, 747s, DC-9s - what a time. Now it's all shitty airbus planes and 787s everywhere.
Bring em back 😍😍
Those planes were like a Corvette with wings. Very powerful.
Compare that to shitty airbus planes today. Night and day.
Two things yes I have seen a trijet in person it was a FedEx DC-10 at John F Kennedy Airport and also didn't KLM retire their md-11 a couple years back
They did. The description states this video was shot in 2014.
So beautiful. Yes I see them all the time. The FedEx Dc 10 and md 11 in Canada
Awesome video! Managed to travel on this plane from Montreal to Amsterdam back then, I loved it, it was outdated, but it was a comfortabel flight and the acoustics were good too. And it just looks awesome with the 3 engines.
Only see one like this for cargo in Peru. Lovely.
KLM used every Douglas, McDonnell Douglas aircraft from DC 2 to the MD 11.
MD-11.. was Douglas still running its triple redundant hydraulic systems right next to each other, through the whole aircraft?
legend
I've flown twice MD 11 to Rome, amazing experience! In the first flight there was a medical emergency, so the pilot decided to use the air breaks? I think they are called that..to loose altitude quickly..omg that was intense..everyone screaming from scare! The airline was Alitalia..
Flew MD - 11 to honolulu years ago united airlines the plane shook the shit out of us 🤔 wasn't pleasant at all made safe landing
Great video!
Flew on that very plane from AMS to DXB many years ago. Thanks for sharing!
Dangerously beautiful aircraft!
.. the very best was the L1011
Many times I’m from Memphis it’s trijet city here because of FedEx
It was so smooth climbing up to the skies
Loveee it!!! Thanks a lot!!🤩🥰👏👏👏
The empire died
Hi PlanesWeekly team, I'm admin of the modelkitindo channel, I ask permission to hanging this video on my channel, and I will enclose your channel name and link... thank you
I remember when I travelled on this plane on January 2009 from Amsterdam to Panama city .
If this ain’t the most beautiful aircraft ever built 😍
Must has md-11 next gen
The deep rowboat impressively raise because committee simulteneously embarrass on a descriptive mind. elfin, ready parcel
Lovely.
wat mooi gefilmd, thanks
I saw these a few times in the months and years leading up to their retirement...
I think the MD-11 uses the A330 GE engines and PW engines of A300 or A310.
Epic stuff, thanks for sharing!
in 2013 I flew with this KLM MD-11 (Audrey Hepburn) from YYZ to AMS. Return flight was with Ingrid Bergman
those md 11's had an amazing angle of attack. then came the 787 dreamliner. it crushed the competition
Majestic !
Used almost exclusively by cargo carriers now.
How gorgeous is this airplane. Are they still around?
Was always one of my favourites both the DC-10/MD-11.
First flew on Laker on a day trip LGW-PMI when it first arrived on the -10 on a promotional offer and later on the -30 and -40 on numerous airlines in the USA, UA, WA, AA, NW plus LH DEL-FRA and a memorable KL AMS-CCS-CUR-PTY.
Did several KL sectors on the MD-11.
AMS-CUR-BON.
LAX-AMS.
AMS-HAV-AMS.
Tried to get on one of the farewell flights but just missed out.
I just loved the shape and every time I landed in AMS, I just longed to see one.
I wish i got to see and fly on a passenger md11
That third engine rendered the rudder non-functional and made the plane tail heavy
So what happens if the aft engines blows up no rudder control
Fantastic, I've flown on her many times to Lagos, Nigeria...great memories.👍👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
