I was determined not to be an armchair safety officer but watching you operate a lathe with gloves on took away any pleasure I had with the otherwise great job.
I've worked lathes etc. for years and never been cut with swarf yet, across the back of the hand with the cutting tool maybe a few times, lol. However I do know of one guy where I worked go into a lathe by wearing gloves, he survived because the alloy was not bar tight in the chuck to avoid damage, the chuck slipped when the job stalled after he was drawn in by his glove. Bear in mind when you go into a lathe you go under and between the bed and work piece, your arm tendons wrap around and get ripped from your chest.
Hui 9697 i have once get a really deep cut bcause of the metal strings ; my finger won't stop bleeding that time hehe.... but i never wear a glove bcause my technical training officer will kill me if i do.
Nice job! I do agree that GLOVES are DANGEROUS. I former co worker had a stringy chip pull his leather glove into the workpiece. He soon became "double jointed" in a bad way.
Nice job I sure hope you have your eye sight or you where glasses . I'V seen others use endmills on a mill your method looks a lot easer . I'm going to make a 2'' one one of these days . JM
@@glassglowz yes I did see it was at least a 3 year old video and I did try to see the cutter in detail when watching but the camera never did get a close up shot of it. Anyway it was at least worth a try. Good job on the cutter but the way it did a real good job with no charred and cut perfect.
Most DROs have a "1/2" function. Find one side of the work with the edge finder, zero the scale, find the other edge, then press the "1/2" button. That divides the displayed value by 2. The "zero" position is now located half way between the edges. Saves needing to use a calculator to find the mid points of holes and rounds....
Enjoyed watching your work. But after the welding, there was probably a bit of cleanup we missed. And I would have liked to have seen the bender put to work.
+Glenn Lawrie-Smith There really wasn't much cleanup work. Maybe one of these days I'll post a video of the bender in action. Or you could check out this guys site. I bought the bender plans from him www.gottrikes.com/Tube_Bender.htm
An interesting section, we hope to publish the supplement, mentioning the measurements by description or through a diagram showing the dimensions. Greetings to you.
+oligagnon Yes it's also homemade! I have some more pictures of it here www.minibuggy.net/forum/show-off-your-toys-here/16803-new-tube-bender-made-dies-myself-2.html#post230570
At 3:20 he is wearing safety glasses. When you see him not wearing them he is using an edge finder to set up the drilling process...guarantee he is wearing safety glasses for the rest of the process.
I'm always amused about the number of comments about safety glasses in this video. You're exactly correct in that I took them off to use the edge finder. I never run my machines without glasses. I'm even using ear protection now days to help prevent my tinnitus from worsening. Take care and thanks for watching!
Your videos are always so engaging :), The subject for your videos are on point :), This vids of yours had me glued to the screen:), What camera do you use to film your episodes?, What mike do use?
For this video I used my Cannon point and shoot camera. Mic is just the built in one from the camera. Most of my other videos are done with my GoPro HERO 4 Black.
+glassglowz you should give an oil lubricant a try. Without actually flooding the tool and material the coolant isn't that useful. It's lubricating properties aren't very good and if you are using carbide it can actually thermal shock the tool.
Hi glass. please send me your drawing for this project. I am in urgent need of a bending die and would really appreciate if you can help me in this regard. Thanks a lot.
Wanna sell one? Or maybe give one away 🤪 I could really use a 1 1/2 inch one. Been looking into them and there quite expensive and I have a tubing project I would like to do
First thing I notaced?? He's obviously got a lot of experience... But where the h#!! are your safety glasses? I guarantee he'll start wearing them after he looses an eye.
+glassglowz I think people want to see you wear safety glasses all the time. Even in the shower, while sleeping, or when feeding your goldfish. Maybe you should make a safety video as to when safety glasses should be worn, and when they do not need to be worn.
I was determined not to be an armchair safety officer but watching you operate a lathe with gloves on took away any pleasure I had with the otherwise great job.
Getting cut by the strings of metal was a certainty, so I took my changes with the gloves. Thanks for watching!

Great job . Im getting ready to do a few on my CNC Lathe , Mill . Its nice to see some one else do this process.
Nice job. I like your groove cutting device.Remember, you are a young man, you might need your eyes for a few more years.
and his fingers.. gloves off
Probably the best video on youtube.
Thanks buddy!
Excellent video!
Your shop is well outfitted as well.
Let's see more videos like this.
Cheers,
Dave
Nice way to make your dies !! it looks easy..
Very good job on the build on the tube bending die . Could you do a video on how you made the radius cutter .
Oh goodness, I made that cutter years ago now.
@@glassglowz yes I did see it was at least a 3 year old video and I did try to see the cutter in detail when watching but the camera never did get a close up shot of it. Anyway it was at least worth a try. Good job on the cutter but the way it did a real good job with no charred and cut perfect.
Sorry dang auto spell correct. No chatter when turning.

That's the way! THANKS JD

glasslowz did you make the radius tool? if so i would love to see how it you did it! thanks

Wondering what your cost is vs JD2 for compatible dies (model 32 bender)... or even dies for the HF radius roller (like swagoffroad offers)...
+Jared Sams Sorry, I'm not making any benders at this time.
That's a lot of work, no wonder a die & former set costs so much.
Good work.
What about Safety?
Use safety glasses.
If the HSS break into pieces (at high rpm), it could hurt your eyes so much.
You don't see it in the video, but I'm always wearing safety glasses when I'm machining.
Okay, But where can i buy this type of safetyglasses? :D
ruclips.net/video/P-XbvpD7yHQ/видео.htmlm39s
Tamás Csibrák thats a centering head....
+kleini3 it's a common error people make to wear gloves on a lathe if it catches your lucky to come out with a broken finger and wrist
+stanley carter It was that or get sliced up and burnt by the stringers, so I took my chances with the gloves.
Blue chips ,may be due to high feed rate?
I'm running a carbide tool so the blue is fine. Likely due to the turning speed. Thanks for watching!
you're lucky you have all that nice machinery
Yeah... or maybe he *worked* and *saved* and went without other stuff for it?...
..A foreign concept to the 'me' generation, I know, right? :-)
Thanks. I bought everything second hand from Kijiji and some friends of friends.
That second little clam / shell mill you used there after the rougher, what was that? It looks really nice. =)
That would be my 1" carbide insert cutter. This guy sells them stores.ebay.ca/jrwoodca-Precision-Tools?_rdc=1
Nice machining mate!
what is the die than you use to form the pipe die? Thanks
the lathe turns to fast thought about half the speed? (when doing the round bending form)
Excellent work fella. Rather than cut it in half and get a 90 degree bend, why not cut 1/4 and leave the rest for 180 degrees?
yeah, I guess I could have. Much easier to just cut the die in half though.

Good looking parts!!!!
nice job. you building a mandrel or crush bender? so great to see one of your generation learning and doing these skills
+jerry gingerich There is a follower block that goes along with the tube die that keeps the shape of the tube as it bends.
Very good I have a 1920s IXL lathe which should be able to do this

magandang hapon sa inyong lahat kaibigan.
What is the tool used to machine the groove?
Custom made. I put a link to it in the video description.
can't find links for your bender?
Hi glass. please send me your drawing for this project. I am in urgent need of a bending die and would really appreciate if you can help me in this regard. Thanks a lot.
Welding backwards with a mig.... mmmh
its only a surface weld that why you push a mig and pull a stik.
the rest was tidy.
nice safety glasses
Thanks buddy.
good job
You're good!
friend you could give me the measurements.
I'm in mexico.
good job
Puedes aderme un
Juego de 1.1/4 180 radiaciom para tubo de 2mm espesor
It's good and nice but how can make inside same in 50mm plate for 1' pipe ?? Please if anyone knows help me ??
Thanks for watching but I cannot understand your question.
Gloves?
+Brandon Lewis Prevents the burns and cuts from the stringers.
Where is part TWO!!!!
must be using 1018?
+jerry gingerich Yeah, it's all 1018.
I was with you until you got on the milling machine. Don't have one. Junk ones are expensive in the midwest. I'm sunk.
kind of frightening watching someone run an engine lathe WEARING GLOVES !! If one of those jaws grabs you , you are TOAST !!!
I like the thrill of breaking the rules
Nice.
your the man
fair play awsome
Wanna sell one? Or maybe give one away 🤪 I could really use a 1 1/2 inch one. Been looking into them and there quite expensive and I have a tubing project I would like to do
lol... sorry, I'm not making anymore at this point.
It was necessary to make at first a flute for simplification!
I have no idea what you're talking about, but thanks for watching!
Ok Well without problems.
no safety glasses
Hurry before the shop owner comes home
could you make me a 1 1/2 die ?? if so how much ??
Sorry, I'm not making these anymore.
na co je ta rolna?
Sorry, I don't understand :(
You will make an ophthalmologist rich ... wearing no eye-protection.
First thing I notaced?? He's obviously got a lot of experience... But where the h#!! are your safety glasses? I guarantee he'll start wearing them after he looses an eye.
Mike Tahan The only time I had them off was when I was finding the edges of the part.
+glassglowz I think people want to see you wear safety glasses all the time. Even in the shower, while sleeping, or when feeding your goldfish. Maybe you should make a safety video as to when safety glasses should be worn, and when they do not need to be worn.
Eyes min protect them...your only blind the once.......
pleas result product
Oh, It will have *resulted*, alright :-)
Obviously you don't value your limbs too much. Always wear safety glasses and NEVER EVER EVER wear gloves around rotating equipment.
I like to live on the wild side! Plus, I have high hopes for bionic limbs in the near future. Mine are getting pretty worn out anyway.
Job wanted you me
