In one of the biggest twists of the 2022 Eurovision national final season, Achille Lauro, who had been part of Italy’s Sanremo contest with the song Domenica, will now represent San Marino with a different song… Stripper.

because they think rock music is an extremely niche genre and you can only have so much representation of it. they think it's a unique occurrence, a one-off. when the same countries send one generic pop song after another, with different singers each year nobody says they're too much alike
Its not just the genre.the guy's mannerisms are extremely similar to Damiano, the lead singer of Måneskin. The makeup, tattoos, outfit, even the choker.. if he was brunette, they would be twins and the hand thingy dami usually does, this guy did too! I mean his song is good and he is super attractive as well but he could have done something utterly unique to differ from Måneskin, especially Damiano
@@faridaaxoI like Måneskin, but Damiano didn't invent that either. What you're describing is every glam rock singer ever. If you watch a concert of David Bowie or Iggy Pop in the early 70s you'll get the same stage presence. Being sensual and provocative on stage is a glam rock thing.
For all those commenting that he's a "cheap" or "poor man's" version of Damiano or Måneskin... please realise that this is a superficial and ignorant opinion. Achille Lauro may not be everyone's cup of tea and that's fine, but he's been famous in Italy for about 7-8 years now. He has taken part three times to Sanremo. AL and Måneskin are VERY different types of artists - the fact that there are tattoos and make-up on a male face is pretty much the only likeness they have.

I think he is original and a great established artist, not a copy of Maneskin. But I think the style of both (musically and by looks) go at least into the same direction. Therefore I wouldn’t have chosen it as en entry the following year, as it can loose some of its value by being downplayed as a Maneskin copy

The artists I really wanted to see representing San Marino were the quirky duo La Rappresentante di Lista (check out their song "Ciao ciao", which they brought to Sanremo this year). Unfortunately I think it was too late for them to apply for Una voce per San Marino... but they would have been absolutely perfect for Eurovision this year!
he's a great guy, but I wish he had taken part in the ESC another time, not this year. it is very likely that the audience will dislike him when he suddenly appears after "maneskin", although he is very popular in his native country and has a career based on the past.

The comparisons to måneskin don't make any sense. He's been around longer. When måneskin was in Sanremo in 2021 they were compared to Achille by a lot of people. Achille is very popular singer in Italy, he's been in Sanremo multiple times and was on it before Må

No denying that this dude has stage presence! I hope he’s able to have staging that really makes him memorable at Eurovision. San Marino won’t have the benefit of having Italy voting for them in their semifinal, so Achille is really going to have to impress in his semifinal performance. I like to call San Marino “The Little Country That Could” because they always enter Eurovision as such a major underdog, but when they send a song that hits gold (either because it’s a good song or it’s one that really connects with the fans and viewers), they’re easy to root for. Because everybody loves an underdog. The song itself, I think, is a wildcard on whether it’ll qualify on quality alone, but with Achille’s stage presence and the right staging, it may have a decent shot at qualifying.
I really like his swagger onstage. Kind of like he’s the love child of David Bowie and Iggy Pop with Plastic Bertrand as an uncle.

I thought Achille had the most exciting stage show of the entire Contest! I mean, it had such a Rocky Horror vibe and that mechanical bull had potential to be Eurovision legend when it came to unusual staging. Granted, it’s not a hamster wheel, but still memorable.

I was disappointed he didnt make it to the finale. I suspect that not only the similarities to Måneskin's androgynous glam hard rock was to blame for lack of votes but also the male-male kiss during the semi finale performance and the name of the song might have turned off some people. It still feels so unreal to say Achille Lauro is a Eurovision artist. He has been my most wanted artist for esc since I saw one of his performances in 2019 and I am so happy he found his way onto the esc stage through San Marino. Can't wait to see what an amazing show he will do in may!

unpopular opinion: This should have qualified over jezebel. Unlike jezebel, This is a nice and fun rock song. the performance was ICONIC and jezebel was just lame. this would have been so fun to have in the final. Sure it's not a good song but its performance and energy on stage made it so much better. Jezebel just did not do much, not a fun song and the staging and performance was equally as bland and bad with jezebel. Stripper was wild and chaotic
I think Jezebel Q'ed ever this is because that was sung by the Rasmus. Their fanbase saved them I think.

His debut mixtape dates back to 2012, since then he has had a huge production of music - of all genres -. Please don't compare, but I invite you to listen to his great music and video production ( C'est la vie, Me ne frego, Midnight carnival, Angelo blu, Lost for life, Teatro & cinema, Wow.. to name just a few..). Don't take this performance seriously, San Marino has a budget lower then their population so their is not a lot he could do to elevate this certain performance. However, Achille Lauro has an amazing stage presence and is a great performer given the right staging he could really lift this song and that's why I definitely think it will go to the final and he could possibly get San marinos best ever result.

Tired of people talking about Maneskin as they represent the whole Italian music scene. You don't understand, Italy has plenty of great artists as well as musicians like the guys playing for Achille. Yes, Maneskin won Eurovision but trust me, they're just a glimpse of the huge amount of singers we appreciate. Achille is the example and you will be amazed by his incredible kindness and how gentle and accepting he is towards the critics, this is something Maneskin are not able to do, they are still young, they can learn much from Achille.
I am Italian, I am glad to be a fan of Lauro's music since 2019 and I envy those who have followed him from the beginning of his career. I am slowly discovering his old songs and I notice that since the beginning he made the best with the means he had available and he was never afraid to try, to change and improve himself. His stage presence, his ability to communicate and transmit emotions is unique and I'm happy to read the same feelings in the comments coming from people also from other countries

People who say he's too similar to Måneskin should look at the history of rock music, where bands and artists with similar styles who played the same genre of music would come, not only from the same country, but from the same city, in large numbers and all of them would have something unique to offer. They even dressed similarly, had similar hairstyles, make-up, tattoos, but that doesn't mean they're the same. Rock music is not a monolith, it's just that you're unfamiliar with it and it all looks and sounds the same to you.

I know I'm biased because I'm his fan, but hear me out. This was such a good performance, the mini festival had its limitations with the audio and cameras but this one is quite close to the performance he is giving in his tour. The energy, singing the song for the first time, he and the band enjoyed it. Lauro on the stage with his band is all I need. ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
