Text: John Newton | Tune: HANOVER
Begone, unbelief
My Saviour is near
And for my relief
Will surely appear
By prayer let me wrestle
And He will perform
With Christ in the vessel
I smile at the storm
Though dark be my way
Since He is my Guide
’Tis mine to obey
’Tis His to provide
Though cisterns be broken
And creatures all fail
The Word He has spoken
Shall surely prevail
His love in time past
Forbids me to think
He’ll leave me at last
In trouble to sink
Each sweet Ebenezer
I have in review
Confirms His good pleasure
To help me quite through
Why should I complain
Of want or distress
Temptation or pain?
He told me no less
The heirs of salvation
I know from His Word
Through much tribulation
Must follow their Lord
Since all that I meet
Shall work for my good
The bitter is sweet
The med’cine is food
Though painful at present
They cease before long
And then, O how pleasant
The conqueror’s song!

“Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints,”
Ephesians 6:13-18 ESV
As the days grow darker, the Spirit of God shines brighter. Jesus loves me, this I know. Persevere, all ye saints!
At Bali Airport to SIN (Singapore. Hahaha). Enjoying your music. Thank the Lord for you.
How this song and lyrics buoy my spirit and inspires worship.
The old times are the good times ! And in very old times there was Jesus and his apostles ! And Moses and the prophets ! And God was before all until the end !
Now we live in bad times, in very bad times !
So let always Jerusalem be in your heart and all that was and is ! And overcome and keep that status !
Thanks for posting this. So much peace, joy, assurance and comfort.
Your channel is one of the best, ever.

Beautiful!! Why have I not heard of this hymn before?!
We used to sing that tune often. Haven't heard the hymn before though.
