@@Ribs113 It is, I wish there was more of a modding community for tracks for it, give it some more stages and cars and it would be the ultimate rally game
This video pops up on my recommended 2 days after picking up Dirt Rally again.. Glad to see that im not the only one thats admiring this "ancient" beauty
The original Dirt Rally has a feature which is invaluable for immersion to offline players: ai retirements. They suffer incidents, failures or mistakes, all realistic, during rallies making it fun and different every time. The original DR was made by enthusiasts for enthusiasts, and you can feel that. DR 2.0 and WRC were made by business people to get money out of consumers.
I also hate the fact in DR2.0 it's mandatory to have internet connectivity to play the team mode where you buy your cars and manage your team which isn't the case for DR1.
I loved DR1, it was my introduction to Sim racing and played it a lot, but tbh, once all the locations were added to dirt rally 2, i stopped playing the original and consider the sequel to be the better package. There are some choice things about the original that I still really appreciate, though. I think the use of colour is arguably better, i really liked the music and it had a benchmark mode which was really helpful for tuning your performance. I remember using that a lot to help test my gtx 1060 overclock 😅
It was my introduction into “Sim” rally. I had played plenty of arcadey rally stuff before and the likes of earlier dirt games but it was the main game that made me love rally. I did enjoy rally 2.0 but did not enjoy it or find it amazing enough to even want to play it any more than Rally 1.
Still the only VR supported rally game on console sadly. I do love that the daily races still have a good number of folks participating every week. Would love an updated VR rally sim for playstation but for now, this is still holding up. (even though you need to break out your PSVR1 headset to play).
@@gordtanner8332 said in another comment actually I forgot this can also be played in VR. I personally got a bit unwell using a VR headset but yeah this game runs great on older hardware also so for some that is a bonus
I bought the original dirt rally a couple of days ago. Despite being delisted from the steam store, it still costs only a couple of € on key selling websites, so I highly recommend getting it before those prices eventually rise like CM dirt 2. It's almost a 10 year old game, but still looks great. Since my pc isn't that powerful, dr and dr2.0 run much better and look nicer than the new wrc game. I don't know what they did but wrc's optimisation is absolutely awful. I can run dr2.0 on ultra graphics no problem but wrc still lags and drops frames while on ultra low. It seems to be a trend with EA's games though, as I've experienced the exact same thing when jumping from nfs heat to unbound. Honestly wrc isn't even an improvement: it drives the same, runs worse and has less active players than dirt rally 2.0, which really speaks for itself.
I loved this game when it came out and put like 700hours into it. But it has issues... many of them. Most of them are physics related and also lack of stages.
Unfortunately I can’t find Dirt Rally 1 anywhere as a download whether to purchase or free. Anyone have any ideas if it is available for download anywhere?

I was obsessed with this game when it first came out. Didn't have a wheel so I mainly used a wired 360 controller plugged into my PC. 😂
