+erick medeiros I don't much care for the seques but I agree with you. This is an awesome album. Another example of David Bowies' genius. This was done in the mid nineties when not too many people were paying attention to DB. He was supposed to be washed up but I think he made some of his greatest music from the early 90s up to the 2000's with Heathens. Then he had that heart attack and took 10 years off.
Mike Garson was in his prime during the 90s period with Bowie (Outside and Earthling), he played a key part to resurrecting him artistically to give him a little bit to keep going on with for a little bit
Mike Garson was w gift to Bowie that was opened first on The Aladdin Sane album and reopened generously here on this and other tracks on OUTSIDE. The 2Oth century piano playing Garson gifts listeners is in tune with the work of Cecil Taylor or Elliott Carter, but he swings a bit, like MONK, so it fits well with a thinking man's rock and roll band. Listen for piano throughout the album and you'll find aural reward after aural reward.
my favorite bowie song from a non bowie fan (but stil listening a lot of). Love this song from beginning to end. For me it's an universe open, a master piece. I really love this song. For me it's touching a bit of perfection with much grace. Combination voice + grand pîano just freeze me, "magnifique"
Big time Bowie fan. We all have our different/favorite phase of him. My favorite is Outside. I thought this era (90's) was very creative for him and we the fans get to take this in....
This is the first time that hear the studio version..The first time i heard this song on the reality live dvd and it blew me away, wow what a song..Thank you David for your sound and visions, nobody will ever take your place...See you up there in the eternal light infinity 🙏☆🕯♾
I remember him emerging from behind a large speaker, left center of stage, half way through this opening song. 13th Floor Vendetta inspired I have always thought ;)
As a child of the sixties, grew up with Bowie, lost him to punk rock for a while. He kept my interst with Lodger in 79 and lost it again with lets dance, china girl la la la. I overlooked this one completely but enjoy the dark mood.
In a fond tribute to one of his HEROES, William Burroughs, Bowie ran the lyrics to Outside album through a cut-up program to add that edge of chaotic surrealism.
For we're living in a safety zone Don't be holding back from me We're living from hour to hour down here And we'll take it when we can It's a kind of living which recognises The death of the odourless man When nothing is vanity nothing's too slow It's not Eden but it's no sham There is no hell There is no shame There is no hell Like an old hell There is no hell And it's lights up, boys Lights up boys Explosion falls upon deaf ears While we're swimming in a sea of sham Living in the shadow of vanity A complex fashion for a simple man And there is no hell And there is no shame And there is no hell Like an old hell There is no hell And the silence flies on its brief flight A razor sharp crap shoot affair And we light up our lives And there's no more of me exploding you Re-exposing you Like everybody do Re-exploding you I don't know what to use Make somebody move Me exploding Me exploding you
This song makes me see and feel the dark post-apocalyptic storyline of the outside album, and also see and hear the beauty in the tragic traumatic stories I've witnessed in life.
Actually, the rest of the Outside trilogy was scrapped, the other two albums were to be called 2.Contamination and 3.Afrikaans; he had just begun recording demos for 2.Contamination when he decided not to go on with the rest of the project.
Don't talk about Bowie's best. It's just proverbial "nit picking". Ultimately, what a genius. I don't know what that means, and I'm sure he would be dismissive of such a compliment. Always he searched for some truths. Always risking for the shambles that is "Art". Wish he was here to look forward to how he sees things happening to us. Miss you Bowie.
This song has a lot of the same sounds and melodies to that of the songs in "Blackstar". Whether he planned that or not, this is a great song on a wonderful album.
Could someone please tell me what genre / searchable style of music this is? specifically the slow/jazzy electric guitar? I have a number of pieces with this style of music that I love, but I want more!
We MUCH prefer to be in the same room with her when she gets extremely hot and then nobody else could stop me from taking you to come over and over again just in case you didn't get this until after we finished our way back from vacation on the shores of infierno.

One of Bowie's best records hands down! Not sure why it gets overlooked but it's a masterpiece! Ahead of it's time.

The best
David Bowie is like a unicorn, you will not believe it while you see it and when he's gone you will miss him like your own misspent youth, sadly.
:(
😔
wow this is a quite good description about him
🦄
One of the MOST underrated albums ever. R.I.P. Starman.
The piano aspect in this song is fantastic.

So dark and brilliant. Outside, Earthling, Lodger and Low are my fave albums from him.
Always nice to see Lodger getting some love. One of my absolute favourites, depending on which day of the week it is.
Your favorites are my favorites, friend
Indie lil boy
My favorites as well, though i'd say: Outside, Low, Loger and Eartling. And Blackstar, his third peak.
@@rinar5643 Good list, I'd put Heathen way up there though, probably my fav. actually, well, and Scary Monsters.
The thing about Bowie is, his mind was open ... what an amazing artist. "Outside" is a masterpiece.
I've been following Bowie for the last 40 years and I know I have my lifetime of listening to the songs I've not yet heard - bonus! I'm 45

One of my favourite songs of Bowie.
Mike Garson's piano - amazing...
Perfect song for a cold and rainy day... R.I.P. David...
Just like today.
this is one of the 2 songs that will be played for me after i leave this body
This album is everything.
Brilliant album...
brillant, sweet and strong, with that mood that only him knows, and capture all us......
I absolutely love you. And I'm absolutely sane.

One of my db favorites.
1. Outside; the best album of DB ever!
Damn, what a song! I love to just lay on the floor and listen to it
A key ingredient of Bowie is the element to stimulate even the simplest thought wave with his musical genius. This is typical 'mind music'.
I remember him emerging from behind a large speaker, left center of stage, half way through this opening song.
13th Floor Vendetta inspired I have always thought ;)
Thanks Scott Walker for be an influence in this song
Wow had to go this deep into the comments till someone mentioned SW. Touché

7 year reply on a platter here. The words didn't really convey all the meaning in his music. It was everything else.
For we're living
in a safety zone
Don't be holding back from me

And we'll take it when we can
It's a kind of living which recognises
The death of the odourless man

There is no hell
There is no shame
There is no hell
Like an old hell
There is no hell
And it's lights up, boys
Lights up boys
Explosion falls upon deaf ears
While we're swimming in a sea of sham
Living in the shadow of vanity
A complex fashion for a simple man
And there is no hell
And there is no shame
And there is no hell
Like an old hell
There is no hell
And the silence flies
on its brief flight
A razor sharp crap shoot affair
And we light up our lives
And there's no more of me exploding you
Re-exposing you
Like everybody do
Re-exploding you
I don't know what to use
Make somebody move
Me exploding
Me exploding you
"There's no more of me exploiding you"... damn. There's nothing more in the world to re-exploide me the way he does.
This song makes me see and feel the dark post-apocalyptic storyline of the outside album, and also see and hear the beauty in the tragic traumatic stories I've witnessed in life.
Outside = David Bowie´s best album from his 90´s! :-p
My fav piece,fab album,saw him 17.11.95 Wembley...
One of my db favourites.
agree !Garson is an incfredible piano player. and the song is beautiful.
I lived this album.
Instrumental is good, haunting song.
one of his best albums
L'intro portée par le piano est juste d'une telle finesse et d'une habileté exceptionnelle ! Un titre remarquable. Respect Monsieur Bowie 😮
Still Fantastic

This track is like totally haunting, brah.
this song is a nice trip
Still today 3rd January 2019 love him , I'm a sidcup boy he is my god xx
i've always been intrigued by the voices at the beggining, i wonder what they're saying...
LOVELOVELOVE! Oh the nostalgia. :) Thanks for posting.
amazing grace.
My favorite song.
Just unbelievable 👌👌👌
This song has a lot of the same sounds and melodies to that of the songs in "Blackstar". Whether he planned that or not, this is a great song on a wonderful album.
Blackstar is way better than Outside....
They're both masterpieces. I do not really care about the Seque segments from 1. Outside and I Can't Give Everything Away from Blackstar, however.
@@theloner6063 I don't think so. Blackstar is not a conceptual album like Outside, in which every song is linked with another.
@@theloner6063 Agreed
Magnifico!!!!!!
About halfway through the song. You can hear he sampled the piano parts into the song "Something in the air."
Was meant to be 3 separate albums. This is why there is a strange ending. Wish he'd done a trilogy.
Sublime,forcément sublime !
Aladin Sane or Scary Monsters are my favorite, but this one is so amazing. Totally under rated.
Next to the Thin white duke concert an unforgettable experience. With Gail next to him...
To the bone. To the soul.
:-(
with love
-Bowie/Eno Classic!
This is so Silent Hill.
And steel guitars at the end - how cool is that??!!
Outside is part of a trilogy, with 'Earthling' and 'Hours' I believe. But the name '1.Outside' is the full name of the record
This is just genial!!!
A razor-sharp crap shoot affair
Hmm . . . bears an uncanny resemblance to The Damned's 13th Floor Vendetta from 1980. Still a great song!
Explosion falls upon deaf ears
best song from a magnificent album - IMO the only modern music that comes close to this in terms of quality is Radiohead
vibe
HOLLY FUCK THATS DEEP like always.
consider that I have just heard it for a while I will make it 9-10th best album
Like an old hell.
Best Part @ 0:01-6:50!!!
odd fascination . If there is no hell & no shame what is to keep us from marauding each other to death?
The need to help each other has served much more utility in evolution than fear of punishment. It also goes much deeper.
the carrot.
Guilt.
As to whether there is a hell, we can only speculate at this stage. What we know for certain is that there is no hell like an old hell.
Beauty Bulletin There is no hell or shame inside the Motel. There's plenty outside.
I like it, not so much but I like it
That fretless bass.....
Outside doesn't quite measure up to Low, Heroes, and Lodger, but it's still a very good record and is very much worth owning.
Hidden horrors lie behind this I'm sure
Occurs to me the album is an inside look at pedophilia masked as ritual.
+Ethan Hill I dont think so. Baby Grace was killed by her mother.
Ritual murder? Some mask.
The first I heard 18,11,95 Wembley, aged 15 ,,,, , in a safety zone,
Básicamente la hostia mayor. Lo ví en el 96 en Paris, sin palabras. A quien le importa.
so you mean out of all is albums which number is this one? e.g 17th?
Could someone please tell me what genre / searchable style of music this is? specifically the slow/jazzy electric guitar? I have a number of pieces with this style of music that I love, but I want more!
Elliott Smith it’s David Bowie music! I can’t think of any genre to compare it too.
industrial/ experimental rock
@@theloner6063 there's also some trip hop influences at the start of the chorus and a bit of ambient at the beginning
I love you. And your comment.
#Venus
Similar to Blackstar, at least to me
Is Mike Garson on this?
Of course. A genius of the piano.
We MUCH prefer to be in the same room with her when she gets extremely hot and then nobody else could stop me from taking you to come over and over again just in case you didn't get this until after we finished our way back from vacation on the shores of infierno.
