4:02 not sure whether this is implied by "complete a map" but in my experience it seems that to influence the elder/shaper maps you don't actually need to kill the boss. instead it seems to be enough to kill something like >= 90% of the monsters. this might be useful if players wish to skip hard bosses but still spread the elder's influence by running adjacent maps which the shaper currently occupies. for low tier maps it might still be faster to just rush to the boss and kill him though. also in my experience the shaper can be pretty aggressive in terms of taking over maps from the elder on his own so it's a probably a good idea to make "paths" at least 2 maps wide so that 5:55 does not happen accidentally when you don't want it to.
It was stated by Rory that maps would change influence without killing the map boss, however it appears that killing the map boss guarantees that the map changes influence.
As you are doing guides on the new encounters, can you do a small guide on the elder and shaper items? It wouldn't be to hard and could really help some people trying to craft good ones, and you can find all the mods on PoEDB.
I dont know about your saying he comes at 12+ maps. I keep getting my abyss to 20+ maps and he still isnt showing. So I keep doing the next map to expand it and around 25 maps the influenced area either drops by half or almost enirely collapses. He will not appear for me.
i am confused. What is better? Full cleared atlas to encounter Elder where ever he is or to shape your 110% atlas for Shaped Dunes, Shaped Shore, Shaped Vault?

I think it hits a natural balancing point eventually, where in the Elder growth cannot get any larger due to Shaper fighting it back naturally, so this makes sense. I am just not sure what that size is at the moment.
Spreading the Elder's influence to a large number of maps causes the Elder and his guardians to spawn. Is there any special benefit to spreading the Shaper's influence to a large number of maps instead?

Given the introduction of the Elder/Shaper influence (and related new items) is it now a good idea/more rewarding to fully complete (or near enough) the Atlas, rather than shaping your Atlas to only have a few maps of the higher tiers complete?
It is still rewarding to farm one specific area of the map as the elder and his guardians have subpar item drops. However it is now much harder to set up those same farming zones without completing the Atlas to get the shaper orbs first.
i've been stuck at 13/15 fragments for a while. zana directed me through the early shaper orbs easily enough, but i've been stuck at 13 with no sign or anything to show me what to do. after this video it looks like i need to expand elder influence and kill the guardians for last two fragments? i think i've already killed the 4 guardians for zana quest if those are the 4 bosses from t16 maps
So.. if there are still some white Maps in the Elder area when he appears, you might get a yellow OR white Elder/Guardians? Getting a Red Elder may be harder than I thought..
4:46 This is wrong. Shaper does not need to be adjacent to an elder map to be able to "take it over". I've had multiple times shaper taking over elder maps i've completed, that were dead center in the elder "amoeba" blob crawling on my map, adjacent only to other elder maps. Other than that, great video as always EE.

Do you know if you can de-spawn the Elder (and his Guardians) from the map once you have enough Elder influence? This is in case you spawned him on a yellow-tier map and want to move him to a red-tier map. Any information is greatly appreciated!
My complete constructive criticism EE - I find myself having to re-watch and re-listen to your explanations quite often to really understand what you're trying to say. Like the section of this video where you're talking about how to expand the Elder's influence and what maps you want to complete in order to expand the Elder's section of map you rattle off so much information that it's really hard to keep track of. I've listened to it a few times and I still don't get it.
@@EngineeringEternity - I had Belfry Elder-influence map (the only Elder-influence map in my atlas) with Shaper in Arachnid Tomb and Shaper stronghold on Villa map. I cleared Arachnid Tomb, Belfry remained the only Elder-influence map. So I thought, maybe the stronghold isn't letting Elder progress, so I bought the Villa map and took down Shaper's stronghold. The 2 shaper maps disappeared, but Belfry was the only map influenced by Elder. No spread. So I clear Belfry, and Elder shows up in T4 to T6 maps, regressing tiers rather than progressing. How am I suppose to get him to T11 to complete my quest?
i didn't quite understand the thing about the shaper orbs. does it mean you can brick your quest line and not receive some shaper orbs if you're not careful? so for example, if i would get my second memory fragment from a tier 14 elder influenced map, does it mean i can only get my third fragment from a tier 15? or do the blue circles spawn in random t>5 elder influenced maps? could you elaborate on that, please?
+PIVbsw The map tiers are irrelavent to the quest. You wont brick the questline, you will just go in the order of the quest regardless of tiers completed.
So how do you get shaper orbs from 11 to 15? I've gotten the first 10, got the last one by doing an elder-controlled T15 Reef which allowed me to shape a T10 into a T15. But now the quest tracker says I only have 10/15. How can I get the remaining 5? Are other T15s supposed to give these?

Correction: You do not need to kill the boss to move influence. Just run them. I have tried without killing the boss and it works.

Given the current map drop rates, yes. You'll be forced to anyway if you want to face Elder.

At least half of the Elder or Shaper items that drop don't have an Elder or Shaper mod on them. FYI.
You don't have to kill the boss in a influenced map to complete it, I think you can also kill 60% of the mobs to trigger the change on the atlas.

I believe once he spawns on a map, you must defeat him where he is to move him off the atlas. You cant make him move after he has spawned.

Do Shaper influenced maps next to the border of the Elders influence. The borders can also move randomly every time you complete a map.

Seeing as i think you can scour shaped items and it still be a shaped item base could you get shaped uniques ???
