  • The Chancellor Rachel Reeves says it is time to ‘level with the public’ about the economic inheritance left by Tories after finding a £20 billion black hole in the public finances. So could this be setting us up for more tax rises?
As Reeves is set to axe rail and road projects to plug the budget shortfall, Camilla and Gordon Rayner are joined by Andrew Griffith, Shadow Secretary of State for Science, Innovation & Technology, to react to the chancellor's plans.
Plus we'll have the latest on the Conservative leadership race as Kemi Badenoch announces her bid. And after an Olympics double win, is Andy Murray Britain’s greatest athlete?

Economy has been trashed for a while, pretty much since the GFC in 2007/08. They chose to kick the can into the long grass with QE. Also the covid spend: Absolutely biblical amounts of money, a lot of it for nought, a lot of it pilfered away by people with low morals. But definitely the straw that's brought all those long kicked chickens home to roost a bit sooner than anyone wanted. Labour won't do any better, none of the political class are capable in this regard. And besides, I wouldn't be surprised to find their hands completely bound between rocks and hard places. Someone, at some point is going to have to do something really unpopular. Its like a game of pass the parcel, but the parcel is a bomb with a dicky timer. Our economy isn't performant enough, we're a low productivity country and the state requires vast sums of money to barely stand still. There is no chance of moving forward whilst we build a hollow economy of deliveroo riders and amazon warehouse operatives whilst we let the very same businesses syphon the money out of the country.

The owner - a man around 70 - received a Cheque from the Government for £10,000 - he didn't apply for it - it just arrived. A tiny example of the Open Cheque Book approach that Johnson & co had in 2020 & 21.

@@shahidhussain9176standing up to Putin on this matter is, at a minimum, a whole of Europe issue (and by extension, a UK issue). To think otherwise is exceedingly narrow minded.
Also, the highly beneficial aid to Ukraine in the past year was less than 0.00001% of public spending over that same period.

      Try again without lying.
The OBR have backed her up, saying Hunt hid £35bn uncosted commitments from them.
Maybe try following events, before allowing yourself to expose yourself as ignorant of current affairs, on a public platform?

Is that the Reform Ltd, whose main shareholder told interviewers none of the company's policies were costed, because he had no chance of being the government?
Thereby admitting he could say and print any old guff, to impress simpletons?

There's more UK land dedicated to golf courses, than all the urban development put together.
      We aren't remotely full.
