      Thank you for posting Flamu. I find this most helpful as I'm coming back to the game after not playing it since October. I was a destroyer captain (loved my Fletcher) and now I have to get up to speed on all the changes.

      Great game Flamu as always.
      Was those BB players totally unaware? Didnt that spotterplane fly directly over youre torps spotting both them and you on youre first strike and still you landed all those torps on the Izumo and Kurfurst 30 seconds later? Sheeiiit, i want those enemys!
      And how was that last torphit on the Montana NOT a flood?! Do Montanas have torpedobelt armour in the Bow now aswell?!
      I was wondering, are you gonna drop AFT on all DD captains except Khaba/ Udeloi after the next patch? Some say you should go for the minimal range on all DD in the future?

    • @Halinspark
      @Halinspark 7 лет назад

      OldSchool Gaming Minimal range is dumb. The only reason they say minimal range is to decrease the range you get spotted by when firing your guns. But if you are in a position to use your guns, you'll get spotted anyway. If youre not in range to get spotted firing your guns, youre not in range to fire them. Lowering your own range doesnt actually help you.

      Nice, a USN DD Vid. Good opportunity to say Thank you Flamu ! I was an BB only player, but now im wrecking my way through the US DD line, its alot of fun. I was called "Hacker" twice already :D

    • @Myrmidal
      @Myrmidal 7 лет назад +1

      the idea is for example a USN DD has insane lead times outside of 10 KM so your effective dpm at those ranges is generally bad. So while you gain more range it does not really help you deal damage but makes if you say fight a DD upclose and kill it, their cruisers/battleships sitting in the distance are less likely to keep spotting you.

    Omg thank you so much. I have literally been saying this since the beginning of time. RPF is not about giving you a strict advantage, it's about information. It's not just for destroyer hunting, it's for determining enemy positions as a whole. The thing about Warships is the concealment creates a fundamental uncertainty value that affect gameplay by not allowing all information to be readily available for anyone on any team about the enemy team, and to a new or bad player, that doesn't matter, because they just want to shoot stuff. But a good player who understands the value of information about your opponent[s] outside of simple engagements is going to be the one who uses RPF to it's maximum effect, which can ultimately have so many more positive effects than a simple stat boosting skill

    • @EvilTimNum666
      @EvilTimNum666 7 лет назад

      It is nice to read a thoughtful, intelligent comment about RPF and not "RPF OP Nerf it I quit!" :P

    • @SecretRaginMan
      @SecretRaginMan 7 лет назад

      That information IS an advantage, though. Whether or not you can competently utilize it is the issue. There was a mod that enabled an aim assist that showed you where to aim to hit the citadel of a target. Now, it didn't shoot your guns for you but it did show you where to aim. That was "just information" as well. want to see that shit back under the same argument? A new skill to predict where to aim your shots? "It's just information". Yeah, that's the point. Utilizing the information presented is what separates scrubs with 45% winrates from people like Flamu with 55+%.

    • @snowthemegaabsol6819
      @snowthemegaabsol6819 7 лет назад +2

      That comparison doesn't work. Anyone can use an aim assist, because it's a big glowing mark saying "shoot here to kill enemy." That is just information, but it's information that requires almost no thought to use.
      RPF on the other hand is simple information that requires a lot of thought to use, because it tells you just one single thing: The general direction of the nearest enemy ship. But that's it. It doesn't give you a distance, an exact position, or what ship it is. So you have to use other information with it as well. What ships are on the enemy team, what likely positions are the enemy ships going to be taken up, which ship is likely to be closest to me, ect. This information changes moment to moment, and most people aren't going to have the mental capacity to be able to use it with other pieces of information to be able to understand how knowing one extra simple thing can change an entire game plan
      You can see an aim assist. It's there on the screen, everyone knows how to use it, the name "aim assist" takes knowing 2 whole words to understand. RPF takes a ton and a half more to understand

    • @SecretRaginMan
      @SecretRaginMan 7 лет назад +2

      It's so useful that it's utterly overpowered when used properly. That's the issue with it.

  • @scheimong
    @scheimong 7 лет назад +1

    Thanks for this showcase of the great value of RPF. I used to think that 4 points is too much for this skill and I am better off specing into other skills (especially on usn dds) like vigilance, survivability, torpedo reload, etc. For this reason I never understood the uproar about RPF breaking the game, before and after its launch. After watching this commentary I see more justification for this skill and I might even consider specing into it in the future.
    In this sense, I guess RPF does 'break' the game in some way, but at a significant cost. So ultimately I think it's well balanced.

  • @davey5080

  • @Gert-DK

    Actually, the enemy should have know that something is wrong. Hipper and/or Des Moines should have reacted, when they were r-located. Getting located as a rearguard in the formation, should have told them your approx position.
    Approx. 3 min in the game

  • @Xoliapydon

    Good analysis, as always.
    I have a question: I know that you obviously prefer RPF on the Gearing, etc, but that naturally comes at a cost to other capt skills. If RPF wouldn't be a skill, what would your hypothetical build be then? Meaning, if you ignore the RPF skill how would you build your captain(s)?

    Do you think it will become stronger or weaker with the upcoming removal of stealth fire? Also I see why it is so strong, I'm just not a good enough player to take advantage of it. At some point I will probably try it to see if I've learned enough to get some mileage out of it. Keep up the great work.

  • @Nico_Dica

    I usualy agree with 90% of what you recommend and in this vid the 10% is about the khaba's rpf uselessness.
    I started to play khaba with your recommended build and I just loved, honestly I really didn't know I would have so much fun, and winrate, playing khaba x) Tho the more I played it the more I was asking myself about rpf and now I can't play without it. Also the possibility to report enemies position is really helpfull for your team, I think you don't mention it clearly in this video tho you did it. But offcourse the main reason for me to use rpf, beside all you already mentioned in this vid, is to be able to rush enemie's dd when I'm flanking and I notice that a dd is coming to me in open water while I'm already harrassing enemies bbs. Also it gives me so an information about the direction of the incoming torps that is allowing me to play without vigilance and so, honestly, I barely never get hit by torps.
    Tho as you already say it's still situational, this technique can be used in open water when no cruiser any close to you, but very helpfull imo :)

    Will the removal of stealth fire make RPF better or worse or you think it will be the same? I used it for a while but removed it because AFT was a lot more useful now with the removal of stealth fire I`m really confused about how I will use my US dd:s. I don`t feel like being spotted at 14 km.

    • @Halinspark
      @Halinspark 7 лет назад

      TheStone Youre harder to hit at 14 km. If you're firing your guns, you're going to be seen. How much distance do you want between you and the things shooting at you?

    • @thestone9134
      @thestone9134 7 лет назад

      Well here is the thing I prefer to engage between 9 or 10 km with US shell hitting something at 14 km effectively is next to impossible. I try to stay in the magic zone were you can reliably hit but not be detected and to hit anything beyond 12km is difficult. Also, I´m mainly a BB player and I don`t mind stealth fire from dd:s! Cruisers on the other hand are the problem in my opinion they should not be able to stealth fire! In my dd play I prefer US line because you can support your team greatly and still use stealth fire mechanic to give supporting fire and when that goes away you will have to choose selfish or team play. I`m just very confused about how to play with the change. I do understand players who don`t like it it`s annoying as fuck to be pepperd from open ocean and not see the person doing it but it`s rarely the reason you die in a battle! Nerf stealth fire yes but give dd:s a 1-1,5km window to use stealth fire then it`s more skill based then now.

  • @tragedyofwind
    @tragedyofwind 7 лет назад +1

    not surprise that some ppl said RPF is useless, given that a lot of ppl at T8 still couldn't read map, read enemy last spotted position, and read combat messages. From my exp, blind torp are the one that hit the most, with RPT, you are pretty much torping ppl when they think they are not spotted. RPF is pretty much a map hack, but a semi map hack, it is actually better for ships with torp and good stealth, but you can still aim and fire torp at RPF deteced target but you can aim and fire guns at RPF detected target. However, I don't put RPF on anything other than DD, because you just lose one major offensive tactic - torping undetected target. and DD needs RPF to survive or position themselves to maximise map presence.

    I m actually more concerned about the big fat warning the enemy gets whilst using it, good players tend to react to that. Talking about "surprise torps" given they get a warning is bold I d say. RPF can also work against u, it s rather easy to conclude where the enemy using it must be

    • @VektrumSimulacrum

      Noname Nameless how? it gives you no bearing. you can be rpf spotted by a dd half way across the map. all it tells you is that you are closer to that one dd using rpf. you are guessing, they are not.

Most of the rank1 players I see in randoms are just average or even below average players and people really should stop thinking of it as somekind of indicator of skill, which it isn't.

    • @stereotypical_idiot1174

      This guy clearly didn't watch the video. In the video he said it's a situational skill, means sometimes it offers valuable information and sometimes it doesn't. This skill certainly isn't useless but it is far from being overpowered as well.

    • @SecretRaginMan
      @SecretRaginMan 7 лет назад +2

      You clearly didn't watch the video. Situational in this case means that it helped him in every single situation. Choosing a cap to attack, deciding where to go, whether to continue or break off, which targets will be the most vulnerable, where any DD are likely to be to thwart his efforts. Every single situation, RPF was there to provide vital intel. Keep pretending that word means whatever you want it to mean.

    • @Sarsol1989
      @Sarsol1989 7 лет назад

      Situational, in general and in this case, means that sometimes its indispensable (things align really well) and sometimes completely useless. If enemy team contested the B cap really well, then he would not have been able to exploit his position nearly as well. You have to really know how to use this skill to be effective.

    • @SecretRaginMan
      @SecretRaginMan 7 лет назад

      If B was contested, he would have know right away, and would have either hunted the DD that would have know someone was RPF'ing him, or just gone to a different cap that was uncontested. It still helps in that situation, as in all situations. Otherwise, he wouldn't have known the cap was or wasn't contested until he was already in there. Like before RPF.

  • @billhendrixson6234
    @billhendrixson6234 7 лет назад +9

    About 1:42, where you say "and now I know where the closest target is..." you also know where the enemy team is centered around. A was already lit up for the last 30 seconds or so, and B was gaining control steadily, therefore uncontested. All this information was there without RPF. I mean if you want to say, "well, sure, but RPF made the information more certain", sure I can get behind that. But at that point in the game, it really did nothing for you that minimap awareness would not have also done.

    • @darebear_
      @darebear_ 7 лет назад +9

      Bill Hendrixson I think he means that there won't be a DD waiting for him in B. Since he hadn't reached b yet, the enemy DD wouldn't have either, so there's no way the minimal could have told him that

    • @oldfrend
      @oldfrend 7 лет назад +7

      none of the dds and one of the DMs had been spotted yet, so the only way he coulda known he wasn't about to run into them was with RPF. bill your comment is only relevant in hindsight, but in that developing situation, flamu is absolutely right that the only way he confidently charges into B is with RPF.

    • @swagger897
      @swagger897 7 лет назад

      What did you not understand about the A and C caps already getting capped? You don't have to be spotted for the enemy team to know where you're at, especially in the early game. Like Bill said, map awareness would've told him everything that RPF already did.

    • @Ensign_Cthulhu
      @Ensign_Cthulhu 6 лет назад

      If the situation were changed and he were going to take an enemy cap, it would be very handy; there's no more progress bar to tell you who's in it (if anyone) if it's already flipped, and a hiding destroyer with full stealth build might not show until too late. Similarly, an unflipped cap behind an island with an enemy gun destroyer waiting patiently JUST outside the opposite edge is a death trap waiting to happen, and RPF can guard against that.
