I have enjoyed this machine very much got to where I needed a bigger machine so I ordered the 2040 aluminum tubing so I could Modify the size of the machine to a 16" x 46" the modification was time consuming but well worth it.. 😉
Very cool! Thanks for sharing
Great video. Paw Paw shows us how easy to upgrade to the DeWalt DWP611 Router. We can't wait to see the performance.
Thank you
Love our 4040xe with the dewalt will you be offering an expansion kit in the coming year?
+1 on the expansion kit. I could roll my own but easier to get all the pieces from one place.
Is the DeWalt dwp611 65mm or 69mm?
Hey Pawpaw, what is the diameter size of the Zcalmp you bought for the 4040xe? the foxalien site has a 65mm and a 69mm.
great video, I have 4040xe with a 300w spindle, whats the advantage of swapping out to a router ?
It just makes it a little stronger. You in theory can cut at faster feed rates
A clarifications: do you disconnect the power cable from the back of the controller so there is no power going to the connectors you disconnect from the original spindle? Didn’t want “live wire” flapping in the breeze. Thanks for you videos - they are very informative and helpful!
That is correct. Always, safety first
Always helpful. Thanks. Have a 4040 xe being delivered tomorrow, Will the 300 watt spindle keep me confined to 1/8 inch bits?
Congratulations, you can use 1/4” as well.
Thanks for the video. I just got the Fox Alien Masuter Pro and already thinking of replacing the spindle. Not sure if I should go with the Dewalt or Makita router, I'm sure either one should work well. I'm definitely going to get the Fox Alien relay module though to control the on/off of the router. You do a great job with your videos, I really enjoy watching them!
Thank you very much and congratulations on getting your FOXAlien
thank you for taking all the time helping everyone. ok I have made the change to the Dewalt dwp611 I have set it up just as you described in the video. I have checked and checked and double checked to make sure that I did it just as you show in this video. I am on the second dwp611 router and it is not working as it was when I got it brand new. I have noticed there is small oil spots on the project like the router is getting hot but when I checked the temp it was just fine. so it looks like it might be the brush dust from the router. I am at a loss on this issue. would you have any suggestions on fixing this issue thank you for your help Les McKenzie .
Brushes only last about 150 to 200 hours. Here is a video on checking the brushes. ruclips.net/video/SrQvdLlngIw/видео.htmlsi=YMYvuBeXqE61jp8A
Is the makita router better than the spindle that it comes with
Great job. Answered all my questions!
Glad I could help! Fantastic!
Great video, one question Sr, can I change on the masuter 4040 ?
The Masuter is a little lightweight. I would not recommend putting the dewalt 611 on that cnc
Awesome video and information Paw Paw. Very knowledgeable.
Thank you very much
Is there a stepdown for smaller shank tools?
Absolutely. You can get many different sizes based on your needs
Great videos. Is the mount a 2 pc mount(router mount and back plate) ? Can the back plate be taken off.
Hey what router bits (extra)should i order for the 4040xe?
recommended IPM with the dewalt on setting 1? soft woods like pine with 1/4 or 1/8th
It also depends on the machine. You should be able to run feed rates around 150
Is the Foxalien a good CNC can I make knife handles with it
Yes, the 4040xe can do the job
Dear Paw Paw, Thank you for your professional and entertaining videos! I bought a 4040xe for use in germany (230V AC). Is it also possible to connect a german DeWalt D26203 or Makita RTO710C to the controller? THank you! Greetings from Germany, Mick
Yes, you can but not directly. You will need a relay added in to control the router.
Thanks a lot!@@PawPawsWorkShop
What material is the new spindle clamp made of? I cannot tell if its 3D printed or aluminum.
It is aluminum
Does using a dewalt router limit the choice of bits because of the collets that are available
No, just like any other spindle you will need the correct size adapter
Hello Paul Paul, this is Tim Curtin again. My Fox alien 4040 XE is arriving tomorrow and my D Walt DWP 611 router arrived today from Home Depot. I went ahead and mounted it to the 69 mm bracket that was recommended for use from Fox alien then also came a day or two ago and I have two questions… Firstly, the two Torx head screws one of which is slightly stripped after mounting it I’d like to change out do you know the Size and pitch assuming they’re metric I’d like to switch to something other than torques like a socket cap or something similar that with a better more rigid head it’s not so soft is the one that comes with the mount. Secondly, as you were probably aware of these use ER 11 collets either for 8 inch or quarter inch bits and I have both. But I noticed as I don’t see a normal nut they can… Does the CNC machine come with one I’m assuming? I hope so because house can you mount your Kaulitz with various tools in them? Looking forward to your reply… Tim Curtin. PS: I’m very familiar with CNC operations and factory my company I use a shop saber 3636 in my operations which is about a 4‘ x 4‘ area for operating and working area. They use an ER 30 to call it with a much bigger tooling of course. At any rate I look forward to your reply
If I remember correctly, it is an M5 8
how much cutting size do you lose on the Z axis with the dewalt being longer?
I didn’t see the order # for the collar for the dewalt. Is it the 65 mm?
Dewalt is 69mm and the Makita is 65mm
Hey paw paw will this be the same on the basic model I have the masuter and where can I find the brace
You can upgrade to a 300 watt spindle for the Masuter. The dewalt 611 is a little to bit and heavy for the Masuter
I was wondering the same thing. Thanks!
Do you like the fox alien cnc router
I like the 4040xe, the VASTO. They are both the stronger CNC machines and can be upgraded and add lasers
Can you still use the z-probe with the dewalt?
Yes you can
would this work on the basic model as well?
No, the basic model is just to lightweight
What are the advantages of adding the more powerful router?
Many people requested this video. You can get an increase in feed rates and usually less chatter with the extra weight
thank you I will check it out 🙂
Hopefully this will help you
Paw Paw I purchased the 4030 CNC and am using the Dewalt 611 but the collet nut won’t work with the collets I ordered from Sainsmart can you help, thank you in advance for you help
If you are trying to use the ER-11 it will not work in the dewalt 611 router
@@PawPawsWorkShop what should I do? I’m starting from scratch I have no knowledge of CNC or anything that goes with it
The collet for the dewalt 611 router can be obtained on Amazon. Also Inventables sells them. The collet is 1/4” in diameter. The inside is designed around the bit diameter usually 1/8” diameter
I’ve just ordered some from Inventables thanks for the feed back, I’m a previous AutoCad Draftsman and would like to hear what software you would recommend for someone who has this type of experience…
My son is a certified AutoCad instructor and still has trouble with the easel and VCarve software. Start there, also get Inkscape, it’s free
Where can I get the Dewalt mount?
FOXAlien Carrie’s the mount
@@PawPawsWorkShop thank you paw paw. Your
videos have helped me a lot. Kept it up my good sir.
Wouldn’t you have to relevel the router to the wasteboard, since you changed it out?
No, I just put the mount back on and drop in the router
@@PawPawsWorkShop hmm ok tyvm, I’ve surfaced my wasteboard and it still seems like my rightside doesn’t cut all the way. Even tried resurfacing the wasteboard and my project board and then cut, and still same issue. So I figured it was me changing the router out. 🤔
I'm wondering if it is possible to upgrade the Genmitsu PROVerXL 4030 or the FOXAlien 4040xe to have a larger foot print by swapping out the extruded aluminum to make it a little wider and longer. Extruded aluminum from 8020 Inc or Tnutz. I'm sure there are other mods or upgrades to be made for the larger foot print (e.g. drive belts, wire extensions), What do you think?
I do not have a CNC, but would like to get one. However, none are in my current budget. Since the XCarve came out, it has doubled in price. So, between the Genmitsu and the FoxAlien, which one would you recommend for a first time user on a very low budget and can be upgraded a little here and there down the road?
I would have to recommend the genmitsu. They have a new expansion kit to enlarge the footprint.
the way you have the power cable zip-tied to the drag chain if you move very far in the X+ direction you are gonna have some issues...
Good point. I wrapped the cord further down the drag chain
Hey Paw Paw, I really enjoy your videos, thank you. I am considering the fox alien 4040xe, and want to know if you have done any 3D carvings on it yet? This is am important function I am wanting to make sure my cnc has. I can't find anything on you tube about it's 3D capabilities as yet. Also I don't think we can get that Dewalt router here in Australia, did you replace it from the stock one because of any problem, or it wasn't powerful enough? Thanks. Yindi
The 4040xe can do the 3d carving just fine. I showed the upgrade to the dewalt611 because so many asked for the video. I have since put the 300w spindle back in the machine. The router went to my router table
@@PawPawsWorkShop thanks so much for that Paw Paw. I look forward to seeing the carving it can do when you get one up on you tube. 👍🏾
Hello Can you put this on 40x40 masuter ?
No, this machine is just to lightweight for this router
Very useful clip.
Awesome, thank you
Excellent
Thanks
Have you tried this setup to work with aluminium :)?
I am buying this machine next week and upgraded spindle DWP 611. Any suggestions on cutting aluminum with this updated Spengel? And in your CNC code in the software (NC file), I’m assuming control the speed and things in the code as the job runs, is this correct?
For aluminum keep feed rate and plunge rates low. 4040xe is the minimum. Next up is the VASTO. It’s much more of a solid machine. Check out the affiliate link in the description to take you directly to their site. Thanks for watching
You rock
Thank you
👍👍👍👌
Thank you
