    __________
Correction: I said oil has a pH of zero, and I should have said “no measurable pH/highly acidic.” I am aware of the pH scale and how it works. In the midst of recording I misstated the information and missed the planned correction I intended to make while editing.
    __________
POINT OF CLARIFICATION: I have received several questions around the oils tip, so I will clarify here and likely address it again in another vid! I am not saying oils are bad, of course they provide vitamin content and many act as emollients/conditioning agents. I am saying, if you are drenching your hair in oils that cling to the hair, and you are expecting them alone to moisturize, that is going to cause the hair to have excessive build-up and eventually repel water, aka moisture. I am speaking to those experiencing issues with breakage, shedding, itching/flaking, dryness and so on due to using only oil as a "moisturizer" and/or neglecting to fully cleanse the hair. I included this tip due to the large number of clients I've seen doing this and having issues as a result. And as always, if something doesn't apply to you or you disagree, continue with what you want to do/use. I hope this helps!
    __________
    FAQs:
My haircut - I am a licensed cosmetologist and I cut my own hair. I have a square perimeter with round layers that I cut while wet. I cut a few inches off in June 2018 to reshape. You should definitely see a stylist and not cut your own hair (see • Back to Black: DIY The... at minute marker 6:15 to learn why!)
My washday - I cleanse and deep condition every 5 to 7 days. If sooner, I will opt for a shampoo + rinse out conditioner or co-wash depending on how my hair feels. I steam every other full wash with deep conditioner for 10-15 minutes or use a heated cap.
My hair type - wavy + curly, high density, medium porosity and fine strands.

Thank you for clarifying that companies that make jair products are only marketing towards hair types because that is what we asked for. In reality when they formulate these products it is for the hair needs not for hair types. Once we understand that. we will understand that we can use any type of hair products that will give us the results that our hair needs.

I agree wholeheartedly!!! I used to get so upset when someone would ask why I use mousse in my hair. It worked. After using it my stylist would see the great results and then stock it to use for other clients.

I literally just watched another video that basically taught the opposite of what you're saying. And because I'm still learning how to take care of my natural hair after 8 years, I feel so desperate that I was actually considering something crazy like...not washing my hair for months. (SMH at me) I struggle with overly dry hair and frizz, usually the very next day after my weekly wash and deep conditioning. And after sitting there and taking the time to load all kinds of products in my hair, LOC, LCO and just recently, LAOC and my hair still ends up a dry, frizzy mess within 1-2 days. I've watched this video twice (which says a lot because the way my attention span is set up, I usually only can watch about 6 minutes or less, LOL) But I said that to say, as smart as I am, I NEVER considered using only one product for styling. My mind has been conditioned to just stack all sorts of products on my hair. Then I have the nerve to complain about how my hair doesn't grow past a certain length or how my hair never looks moisturized or how my hair is always frizzy. Thank you for this video, It has truly made me rethink my upcoming bad hair decisions. Lots of love and continued success to you!

Sounds like your hair is high porosity, especially if your hair takes in water easy and dries fast . Try products geared towards high porosity. Shea moisture has a mask in the blue label that works well for this issue. Hope this helps

Loved this video! After 7 years natural I have seven whole products in my arsenal. That's seven products from shampoo to silk oil that work on both my daughter's and my hair. We use them in varying combinations for wash and go's to silk presses. Still seven whole products.
    Vanicream shampoo
    Vanicream condtioner
Rotating deep conditioners (depends what's on sale at Sally's)
Jane Carter's Curls to Go Styling Custard
    Jane Carter's Styling Foam
    Ion blow out cream
    Ion Silk oil
Dat's it! At most we use 4 of the 7 at a time. I am too tired and there is too much hair on our heads for all these steps. Preach Mo. PREACH!

Thank you Mo for refuting the illogical natural hair notions, myths, & unnecessary/detrimental practices created by those who lack the credentials & certifiable knowledge. And thank you for emphasizing the use of "God given common sense". I sure do use mine! Trial & error, simplicity, patience & learning one's *own* hair are key. Thank you for acknowledging NYC humidity and how it affects the hair/regimen. I stopped going to professional stylists for a long time due to them either not knowing or not willing to work with my hair in all four seasons. It doesn't matter how good my hair looks in the air-conditioned salon - if I can't replicate the style between appointments. The answer was to keep it short - but as I get older, I enjoy the ritual(s) of adorning my hair. Will try the CRN butter gel again and see if it works on my braid outs as my hair is too thin for a good twist out. Congrats on all your achievements mama - you are an inspiration to many!!!

So much great information! You're so right about trial and error. I was convinced that oils had to be a part of my regimen, while my hair was telling me the exact opposite. I developed a sensitive scalp, which I never had even in my relaxed day and my hair felt like straw. Finally I used my common sense (!) and my hair began to flourish. Now to eliminate some of the products I use, which is hard for a junkie like me.

I recently found your channel and literally tears formed after watching many of your videos. I’m sure you won’t see this given the age this video
but I’m just so angry with myself. I had long beautiful hair much like yours and chopped it all off 5 yrs ago for a shorter style ( needed a life style change).
The “stylist” I had never educated me on proper hair care, but I have to take ownership as well. I abused my hair with a flat iron and products trying to manage a shorter style. I am now paying the price with thinning and brittle hair.
    So many regrets!!!
I wished I discovered you years ago. I took my hair for granted to be honest.
That old saying “ you know better you do better” is what I’m living by now when it comes to my hair.
So I’m binge watching many of your videos to educate myself. Also, trying to find a professional who will educate me on proper hair care.
Thank you for helping me on my hair care journey. I’m starting to feel a little better . If I had a wish right now, it would be a personal consult with you !

I love your tips!! so many popular things feel unnatural (oil pre poo for example, hating silicone etc) and I always feel like i am doing it "wrong" but when I try to do it "right" my hair just ends up frizzy and worse off. I appreciate u giving a different perspective.

Great information!! I’ve been natural for 11 years and this is the most detailed and informative video I’ve ever seen. I was going to ask about the Camille Rose Aloe Whipped Butter Gel after I saw your IG post but then you used it in your video. I’m definitely looking to simplify my routine especially since I’m growing out a pixie cut. Thank you for the information and knowledge!

Yo! When Mo comes on here and spits the truth so the choir has to get up and say "AMEN!"
Thank you Mo! I made choices for my hair and what it likes. Thank goodness I used common sense and not let RUclips define me or my hair. I'm a NY'er too, so if I can get my twists to stay in a day or two before untwisting is a win.
Getting my hair healthy and keeping it healthy is my goal. Some RUclips gurus really have done a disservice. I have commented in one of these gurus video post that it's better to eat those bananas, eggs and honey than to put it on your head and I got a bunch of the RUclipsr's followers telling me about myself.
What you put ON your hair is "topical" to make it look good. What you put IN your body builds strength from within.
Again, thank you Mo! You are the defining clarifier. 💇🙌💛👏👏

Thank you for the information on the product line. I'm an ex-stylest, out of the business for about 10yrs and I don't know what to use for my hair with all these new line out. And with everyone doing that new "trend" today of going without relaxers and going all natural'/healthy. The stuff that worked for my hair (liked you said) they no longer carry and or they have changed product formula (if it's not broke don't fix it😡😡😡). I was out today looking for hair oil, shampoos and conditioners, styling aids for color treated hair and didn't know what to get. Now I know it is a hit or a miss and have to keep trying stuff until I find something that works. I will be watching this tutorial again you said some things that I've been dealing with my hair and I want to give them a try.
AMEN, AMEN, AND AMEN AGAIN to the COMMON SENSE.
CONGRATULATIONS on running your own shop and for being busy💲💲💲, I am HAPPY FOR YOU 😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄
