Thank you, Travis! I think it took me a long time to get back to making videos cuz I felt stale. Maybe the zippy editing makes it more fun! Thanks again for coming to the premiere, cheers!
Thank you, Liz and Charlie! It's been an absolute blast picking this up and a great wintertime studio activity (not that I needed to add any, lol). Thanks so much for watching and happy trails!

Thank you so much, Val! Don't the sunstones look as good as diamonds? I think so too! Maybe prettier since some have that crazy schiller and I haven't even played with the colored ones yet. Appreciate the great feedback, thanks for watching and cheers!
Beautiful work. You have inspired us to give it a try. We live in the Willamette Valley and have been rockhounding for decades. We enjoyed watching your videos and look forward to watching more of them. Thank you for sharing.
That's fantastic! I think there's a faceting guild in the Willamette Valley? That would be a great resource if you're close and can get some guidance or use their machines. That's exciting to hear you'll try it, I'd love to hear updates! Good luck!
Those are really amazing. I would love to see some more of these videos. I really would love to learn how to do this. It looks really difficult to do. Thanks for showing us your beauties.
Thank you! Do you have a rock club near you? Many have faceting machines and classes so you can learn without footing a mint for a machine. I'll for sure be making more videos about this, I am sooooo addicted. I'm surprised how not difficult it is, it's worth a try. Thanks for watching, much more to come!
Well done! I find the process of faceting to be very intriguing. I would like to know how you get any work done in your studio with such a nice view out your window? I have a solution for that problem, you might want to work out of a cold shipping container. Doing so will provide less distractions.
I think you'd be wonderful at faceting if you wanted to get into it. You have the perfect, non distracting studio too, lol. You would want the monster heater, there's a lot of sitting and spinning. You can see why I watched dozens of MST3Ks. Maybe Zinski could guide you in the direction of making a machine? Thanks for watching and hope to see you riding the facet crazy train soon.
Fantastic, glad you enjoyed it! I've got a few sunstone videos (finding, cutting, and carving/making jewelry), and of course all the more and more stones are fun to play with too. Are you going to get some of the Sunstones or are you working with them already? Thanks for watching and cheers!
I definitely have to give that a shot! You're very talented to pick up on it so quickly. You had a few small hiccups in the beginning but figured it all out and now you're rockin it!! I foresee myself having twice as many issues if I'm lucky and probably take twice as long to get it down if I'm lucky. Lol.. Looks like lots of fun for sure. Great video!!
You should give this faceting thing a try for sure. It's so much fun and it seems like it fits like a glove to a certain brain disposition (ie. if you're the type that revels in fine focus and the like). There's a part that I have coming that should fix that 15 degree issue and will allow me to use the 90 degree setting as well (so no level while making girdles, lol). If you have a club near you, maybe hit them up, many have faceting classes. Hit me up on my email; ozone669 at gmail dot com so we can chat about getting you on the podcast. Cheers!
Thanks so much 😊. I think you should really give it a go if you're interested. I think it's my favorite thing of all things to do with the lapidary. Would love to see what you would do! Cheers!
@@OzoneFineArtVentures My local gem and mineral society just got 5 Hall faceting machines (Aussie made) this month which ive been hanging out for. I used to work in the entertainment industry as a lighting designer/tech and faceting is like a whole other light show i've yet to discover😍🤩😍
What are you using to facet with? I can help you hone in maybe a bit with the polishing if you can tell me what you're trying to polish and what you're using. It does change with the different minerals, ie; sunstones finishing with cerium oxide as opposed to garnet finishing with diamond. I'm happy to try to help even though I'm a beginner as well. Thanks for watching, cheers!
Totally ridiculously sucked into another universe with this faceting thing. Yes, Facet-nating is a thing! Love it! Thanks for hanging out for the premiere, cheers!
So beautiful! Every stone was just awesome! And the obsidian one to was beautiful! The jewelery you made with it is so beautiful, and the rings were stunning! I have a piece of watermelon tourmaline that i would love to have you facet. It was given to me by manistee rocks and i only know so many faceters! lol but we will let you get a few different materials under your belt first. Would you be interested?
Thanks so much, Lisa! I appreciate all the kind feedback. That watermelon tourmaline sounds lovely, it would be fun to work with when I get the stones figured out for sure. I think I know where I can get some practice tourmaline too. You're awesome, thanks for coming to the premiere and all, cheers!
Hi Amanda, thanks! I haven't tried agate yet. It's been such a good learning experience, having a 'control' to the experiment with the sunstones, that I'm continuing the basics with them. I'd like to try an agate at some point but need to find a special one for sure. Thanks for watching, cheers!
There are a lot of different sunstones/feldspars around the world so it's entirely possible. Keep your eyes open for used machines or get with a rock club, they often times have machines that you can learn on and use. Best of luck and thanks for sharing, cheers!
I think not all the 45-degree blocks are set to a perfect 45. In theory, once the block is set to the surface of the lap, it should be level with the lap to a 90, so at that point, you should only have to cut to depth. I'd put a protractor on the lap and see if something is really off or if the angle block is offset.
That's some great advice. I am getting a proper gauge for the machine, and when I do, I'll go back over all of the elements that might need calibrating. I hadn't thought that the block might be off, great catch there. Thanks for the help and for watching, more to come soon. Cheers!
I'm not sure if anybody told you this. Not positive if it's what you're supposed to do with that machine. I'm new to this too. When you're trying to set your angle for the first time. I do believe you have to pull it off the machine to where it's hanging in the air off to the side. Then I believe you set your 45 there and then go back to your machine and see what it's telling you and then you have to calibrate it to the 45. Sorry for the paragraph double-check for sure on this because I'm not positive but I'm 50%.
Yes, there are some tricks of calibration for the different machines. I'll admit to not wanting to mess with mine before getting the dial for the depth indicator. I'm going to attempt to calibrate the whole machine then. When I made this video, which was early last year, I just wanted to facet without messing too much with anything I didn't feel confident I couldn't fix. As it was, I've faceted over 100 stones with it just the way it is. I'll upgrade very soon to having everything as it should be, which will be incredible. I'll be making another faceting video soon to track that progress. Thanks for watching, cheers!
Good to know. I'm not ready for some rose quartz at the moment, but that could change. You could send me some pictures on the discord if you're over there, cheers!
I've got some rose cuts on deck for some of the shallower sunstones and some smaller garnets and sapphires that I've received. Stay tuned to see those and thanks so much for watching!
